A photo I had taken looking up Water Street on the 26th of May, at 5.50pm —just minutes before a tragic incident was about to unfold.
My partner and I were enjoying what should have been a joyous day in Liverpool, celebrating with friends and soaking up the incredible atmosphere. A bit of rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the amazing people of this city. Thousands gathered together, singing songs of the football club and of their legends past and present.
Once safely home, we were overwhelmed with calls and messages from loved ones checking in. The true spirit of Liverpool shone through with people offering shelter to strangers and seeing people offering help to others in getting home safely. It was a powerful reminder of the strength and kindness in this community.
As a counsellor, I know that events like these can leave emotional marks, even for those not directly involved. Shock, sadness, fear—these are all valid responses.
I’m so proud to call Liverpool home. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the traumatic event. I hope for healing, strength, and a full recovery for everyone impacted.
If you’re struggling in the aftermath, please don’t hesitate to reach out to loved ones. It really is true what they say, "You’ll Never Walk Alone."
