St Joseph's Hospice (or Jospice) was founded in 1962 by Father Francis O’Leary, while working as a young priest in Pakistan. It is the oldest and largest hospice on Merseyside and has been providing palliative and end of life care for adult patients from across Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley and West Lancashire for more than 40 years. We are a registered charity and our specialist nursing teams care for over 200 people with a wide range of conditions every year. We also care for and support our patients’ families and carers. We have 29 patient rooms and are fortunate to be located in a beautiful setting within a conservation area and 12 acres of natural woodland. We do not charge for our care and rely on our local communities to continue to support the hospice. Around two-thirds of our funding comes from charitable giving, including donations, fundraising and legacies.

5K or 10K at Aintree Racecourse today and wow… it was wet as an otter’s pocket 🌧️😂

Torrential rain couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm and dedication of the hundreds of runners who braved the elements, and powered on through the puddles 💙

Huge congratulations to every runner who showed up, pushed through, and finished strong — and an even bigger shout-out to the amazing staff and volunteers who kept spirits high and truly had a “splashing” time despite the conditions! 👏💦

What a day. What a cause. What a community. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💪

🍊💙 Celebrating the 4Elliot Campaign! 💙🍊

A huge thank you for the amazing donation of Terry's Chocolate oranges as part of the 4Elliot campaign — an incredible movement encouraging people to donate Terry’s Chocolate Oranges as a thank-you to our amazing NHS and Hospice teams.

These little gestures mean so much. They’re a reminder that every smile, every moment of care, every act of kindness from our staff never goes unnoticed. 💛

A huge thank you to everyone who donates, shares, and spreads the word. And to our dedicated NHS and Hospice heroes — this is for you. 💙🍊

Let’s keep the kindness going, one Chocolate Orange at a time.

✨ Light up a Life Service – A Beautiful Afternoon of Remembrance ✨

Yesterday afternoon’s Light up a Life service at Saints Peter and Paul’s Church, Crosby, was a truly touching and poignant occasion. 💛

We gathered to remember those we have loved and lost and to celebrate the light they continue to bring to our lives at this festive time of year.

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful singers from St Mary’s Prep School, whose voices filled the church and made the service so special.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this moving afternoon of reflection and love. ✨

Nine-Year-Old Flynn Corcoran Smashes Fundraising Target in Tribute to Grandad Phil

Nine-year-old Flynn Corcoran, a Year 4 pupil at Ursuline Primary School, has captured the hearts of his community after completing a sponsored walk in memory of his grandad, Phil Cannell—raising an astonishing £1,100 for St Joseph’s Hospice, affectionately known to Flynn as “Grandad’s Hospital.”

With more fundraising plans in the pipeline, the Cannell family remain committed to celebrating Phil’s life while supporting the hospice that guided them through such a difficult time.
