St Joseph's Hospice (or Jospice) was founded in 1962 by Father Francis O’Leary, while working as a young priest in Pakistan. It is the oldest and largest hospice on Merseyside and has been providing palliative and end of life care for adult patients from across Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley and West Lancashire for more than 40 years. We are a registered charity and our specialist nursing teams care

for over 200 people with a wide range of conditions every year. We also care for and support our patients’ families and carers. We have 29 patient rooms and are fortunate to be located in a beautiful setting within a conservation area and 12 acres of natural woodland. We do not charge for our care and rely on our local communities to continue to support the hospice. Around two-thirds of our funding comes from charitable giving, including donations, fundraising and legacies.

After the loss of her mum, a family member sent a heartfelt note to thank the team:

“In the very early days it was tough, and the support from you and the nurses really helped.”

The family plan to make a donation for a tree heart, so they can visit the hospice grounds and remember her in their own time and space.

Thank you – your words mean so much 💚

We’re so proud to display the beautiful photography of Li Mangan Photography here at the hospice

Li’s work captures the beauty of our local area – and her connection to St Joseph’s runs deep. Her great-grandmother, Mary, was among the first to be cared for at the hospice, and her family’s support has spanned generations.

Her photos now add the perfect finishing touch to our recently redecorated lounge areas – bringing the space to life and helping create a warm, comfortable place for families to spend time together.

Look out for the full story in the next edition of Your Hospice magazine, arriving in September – it’s a special one.
