This client was cutting and bulking for several years… but never getting quite as lean as they would have wanted to.
-
They resented fat loss phases and quit them when they got too hard.
-
Which happened really freaking fast because the start of every diet was also the end of their social life.
-
And I get it.
-
The most common fitness advice you’ll hear is, “Be more disciplined.”
-
When you’re already disciplined and structured, “Be more disciplined” is your comfort zone… but it’s not what you need.
-
What you need is to learn how to be more flexible and stay in a deficit anyway, without burning out a few weeks in.
-

When M. came to me in September 2025, she had a clear goal:
-
To build a more feminine, gender-affirming physique.
-
She was already strong, trained hard, and knew her way around the gym from years of powerlifting.
-
But her physique didn’t match what she was trying to achieve:
-
She had a Dorito shape, not an hourglass (yet).
-
So we changed the focus.
-
We implemented a small surplus to drive muscle growth while keeping fat gain in check, dropped upper body training to a minimum, and ramped up lower body to allow her legs and glutes to catch up with her torso.
-
Seven months later, she’s leaving the old Dorito shape behind for a more lower body-dominant, hourglass physique.
-
If you’re training hard but your physique isn’t going where you want it to, your problem is direction, not effort.

Use comparison carefully.

It can be a great tool if you’re using it for inspiration.
-
It can also lead you down unproductive rabbit holes.
-
(A fitting pun for Easter Sunday. 🐣)

There was a time comparison to others nearly made me quit bodybuilding and coaching.

(Imposter syndrome, eh?)

C. is nothing short of an inspiration.

He lost 70 lbs on his own, works night and day shifts at a mental health facility, and sometimes trains as early as 4 am.
-
But even badass trans men like him get stuck.
-
Which is exactly what happened to C. when he decided to get in touch with me.
-
Here’s how we busted his plateau ⬇️
-
1️⃣ We allowed more than just boring chicken, rice, and broccoli…
-
… But I still give him a(n affectionate) kick up the arse if his diet starts looking more like the Tw***ie Diet than a healthy approach focused on protein, fibre, fruit, and veg.
-
2️⃣ I gave him a training program that actually works.
-
And I’m teaching him how to train hard and with good form.
-
So he can stop second-guessing himself because of all the contradicting information on social media.
-
He can just get it done and make gains.
-
3️⃣ We’re working on his all-or-nothing mindset.
-
On his own, a single takeaway would spiral into Takeanuary.
-
Now, we’re working on accepting that he will make mistakes, because he’s human.
-
And that’s ok.
-
And he can also realign his next action with his goal instead of waiting a month.
-
