πŸ’š As the nights draw in, this time of year often brings memories of those we’ve lost.

The change in season β€” the falling leaves, the quiet evenings β€” can stir feelings of grief, love, and remembrance.

You’re not alone in feeling that mix of sadness and warmth. It’s a reminder of how deeply we’ve loved, and how that love still lives within us. 🌿

Today is World Menopause Day β€” a reminder that grief isn’t always about death.

Sometimes, it’s about the quiet changes we go through as life shifts around us and within us. For many, menopause brings a deep sense of invisible grief: grief for a changing body, for fertility, for youth, or for parts of identity that once felt certain.

These feelings are valid, and they deserve to be spoken about with compassion and understanding. At Liverpool Bereavement Service, we recognise that loss takes many forms β€” not all of them visible. πŸ’›

πŸ’š Your donation makes a difference β€” right here in Liverpool.

At Liverpool Bereavement Service counsellors, every penny you give helps someone find light in their darkest moments.

It costs around Β£30 to provide one counselling session β€” whether that’s for an adult, a grieving parent, or a child through our Oakleaf service for young people.

Every session matters. Every pound helps keep our doors open, our rooms warm, and our lights on β€” so we can continue to offer free, specialist bereavement support for anyone in Liverpool who needs it.

Our counsellors are highly trained volunteers who give their time, compassion, and expertise freely. Many are qualified therapists, counsellors in advanced training, or professionals with years of experience.

They’re the heart of what we do β€” supporting clients through our:

🌿 Adult Service
πŸ’› Baby and Child Loss Service
☘️ Oakleaf Children & Young People’s Service

Each person who walks through our doors is carefully matched with a counsellor best suited to their needs β€” whether that’s someone experienced with child loss, trauma, neurodiversity, or long-term grief.

We’re so proud to be able to offer this work free of charge, but we can only do it with your help.

If you can, please consider donating today to help us continue offering care, compassion, and hope to our city.

πŸ’š National Grief Awareness Day – August 30th

Grief touches every one of us. Whether your loss is recent or years ago, whether it’s a parent, child, partner, friend, or someone else you loved β€” your grief matters.

Today, on National Grief Awareness Day, we pause to remind our community:
🌱 There is no timeline for grief.
🌱 Every loss is unique.
🌱 You don’t have to carry it alone.

At Liverpool Bereavement Service, we provide free, compassionate 1:1 counselling for children, young people, and adults. Through our Oakleaf service, we also walk alongside children and young people navigating grief, loss, or separation.

If today feels heavy, know that support is here β€” and that your grief is valid, whatever form it takes. πŸ’š

πŸ’¬ What is Grief Counselling β€” and Who is it For?

At LBS, we offer a calm, safe space to talk through your grief β€” in your own words, in your own time. πŸ’š You don’t need to have β€œthe right words” or to have experienced a recent loss. Grief can stay with us for weeks, months, or decades.

We support:
🌿 Adults, children, and young people aged 4–90+.
🌿 Those who have lost a partner, parent, child, friend, or someone else important to them.
🌿 People navigating baby and child loss, miscarriage, or IVF loss.
🌿 Those who are neurodiverse and may experience grief differently.

Our volunteer counsellors are trained in Person-Centred Therapy, CBT, EMDR, and other approaches, so they can walk with you through the complex and changing emotions of loss.

πŸ’š Grief doesn’t follow a timeline β€” and neither do we.

πŸ’¬ Some weeks we carry more than others.

What’s one word that describes how you’re feeling today? No explanation needed β€” just one word.

It’s a small way to check in with yourself, and with this community.

πŸ’™ A New Ground, A Familiar Grief, A New Chapter for Everton fans

This weekend marks a new chapter for Everton fans as the club hosts its final test event at Hill Dickinson Stadium β€” a historic moment filled with pride, hope… and for some, deep sadness.

For many, Goodison Park wasn’t just a ground. It was where memories were made, generations bonded, and loved ones laughed, cried, and celebrated together. Some may have ashes scattered or plaques placed at Goodison. Some may be lucky enough to have their person honoured at the new ground. But for others, this move is a painful reminder of who’s no longer here to make that walk with them.

⚽️ This matchday might feel heavier than usual.

And that’s okay.

πŸ’ You might be thinking of the dad who took you to your first match, the grandparent you sat beside in the stands, the sibling or friend who lived and breathed blue.

Your grief is real. Your sadness is valid. This new journey doesn’t erase the old β€” it carries it forward. With every step, every cheer, every tear… they’re still with you.

Be gentle with yourself. Honour their memory in your own way. And if today feels heavy β€” you don’t have to carry it alone. πŸ’™

πŸ’¬ β€œGrief is in two parts. The first is loss. The second is the remaking of life.” – Anne Roiphe

Grief doesn’t have a clear ending. It shifts and changes as we begin to rebuild our lives around the loss. This quote is a reminder that it’s okay to take your time β€” to pause, to cry, to grow slowly.

That’s why we’re sharing β€˜Quotes to Carry You Through’ β€” little reminders to help you feel seen, held, and not so alone in the process.

πŸ’ Why do we feel so upset when a celebrity dies β€” even if we didn’t know them?

It’s something we hear often at LBS β€” and the answer is simple: Because their stories shaped ours.

🎡 A footballer we looked up to.
🎬 An actor who comforted us in childhood.
πŸŽ™οΈ A musician whose lyrics got us through heartbreak.

Even though we never met them, their lives became part of our story. Their death reminds us of people we’ve lost. It shakes our sense of safety. It brings up older grief.

Recently in Liverpool, after the bereavement of Diogo Jota, many are feeling this deeply β€” especially children and teens, who often see public figures as role models or sources of comfort.

And when that’s taken away suddenly, it can feel like grief without a place to land.

πŸ•―οΈ If you're feeling it too, you’re not alone.
πŸ’š Be gentle with yourself. Talk to someone. Reach out.

πŸ’¬ What is Person-Centred Counselling?

It’s a gentle, supportive approach that sits at the heart of what we do here at Liverpool Bereavement Service πŸ’š

When you're grieving, sometimes you don’t want answers β€” you just want someone to sit with you, to listen, and to really see you. That’s what person-centred counselling offers.

It’s not about giving advice or β€œfixing” things. It’s about creating a safe space where you can speak freely, feel held, and work through things at your own pace.

No matter your age or background, this approach meets you exactly where you are β€” with empathy, honesty, and care.

🌿 Grief looks different for everyone. You don’t have to go through it alone.
