I’ve just updated my professional knowledge with SKCIN’s MASCED training (Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection), and it’s something I feel incredibly strongly about sharing.
As a skin care specialist, I work with skin every single day. I see my clients regularly, I get to know their skin well, and that puts me in a unique position of responsibility. While I am not medically trained to diagnose, I am trained to recognise when something doesn’t look right — and that can make all the difference.
MASCED training equips professionals like me with the knowledge to spot early warning signs of skin cancer, understand changes in moles or lesions, and most importantly, know when to advise a client to seek medical attention. Early detection saves lives — it’s that simple.
This ongoing education is vital in my role. Skin is not just about aesthetics; it’s about health. By keeping my training up to date, I’m ensuring that every client who sits in my chair is cared for with awareness, integrity, and professionalism.
In the past, I have had moments where speaking up and encouraging a client to get something checked has led to early medical intervention — and yes, those moments have genuinely saved lives. That is something I will never take lightly.
Continuing my education with organisations like SKCIN isn’t optional for me — it’s part of my duty. My clients trust me with their skin, and I take that trust seriously.
Please remember to check your skin regularly, protect it from sun damage, and never ignore changes. And if you’re ever unsure, get it checked. 💛
