🌟 SWAGGA x Pumping Marvellous BEAT Event — Speke 🌟

What an incredible day supporting the BEAT cardiovascular screening event at Speke Neighbourhood Centre! The community impact was HUGE 👇
❤️ 380 people screened
• 10 high blood pressures
• 6 new AF cases

🩺 39 NHS Health Checks
• 14 raised cholesterol
• 10 raised glucose

🔍 24 patients had proBNP tests → 14 raised markers
AI echo confirmed:
• 6 new heart failure cases (1 urgent same‑day referral)
• 6 new AF
• 1 Amyloidosis
• 1 valve defect

✨ The most powerful part?
Patients were able to be screened, diagnosed and started on medication — all on the SAME DAY.

No long waits.
No delays for tests.

Just instant answers and peace of mind when it mattered most.

A huge shout‑out to all partners providing full wrap‑around support: NDPP, Smoke Free Liverpool, Lung Cancer Screening, Talking Therapies, River, Diabetic Eye Screening, Live Life Liverpool, Access Wellbeing and SWAGGA’s own Ageing Well & Cancer Screening teams 💛

🌟 SWAGGA Proudly Supporting the Pumping Marvellous BEAT Event in Speke! 🌟
SWAGGA was proud to support the latest Pumping Marvellous BEAT cardiovascular screening event at Speke Neighbourhood Centre — a truly vital and much‑needed day for the local community.

The impact was incredible!!
❤️ 380 people screened through blood pressure checks, heart rhythm monitoring and a breathlessness questionnaire. This identified:

• 10 significantly high blood pressures
• 6 newly detected cases of Atrial Fibrillation (AF)

🩺 39 full NHS Health Checks were also completed on the day, uncovering:
• 14 people with significantly raised cholesterol
• 10 people with significantly raised glucose levels

🔍 From the initial screening cohort, 24 people with raised BP or newly detected AF received a proBNP test to check for markers of potential heart failure.
Of those 24:
• 14 had elevated markers
• Each received an AI echocardiogram on the day, which confirmed:

6 new heart failure diagnoses (including 1 urgent same‑day referral)
6 additional AF diagnoses
1 case of Amyloidosis
1 patient with a valve defect

✨ What made this event truly remarkable was the ability for patients to be screened, receive a diagnosis, and even start medication — all on the same day.

No waiting months for tests.
No delays for results.

Just same‑day clarity, reassurance, and peace of mind at a time when early intervention matters most.

These findings are life-changing — and in many cases, life‑saving. The event showcased the true value of proactive, community-based screening, identifying serious health conditions before symptoms escalate and helping people access treatment when it can make the biggest difference.

💬 A big thank you to all the partners who created a truly holistic wellbeing experience:
• National Diabetes Prevention Programme
• Smoke Free Liverpool
• Lung Cancer Screening
• Talking Therapies
• River
• Diabetic Eye Screening
• Live Life Liverpool
• Access Wellbeing
• SWAGGA Ageing Well Clinic (who delivered 14 Ageing Well checks)
• SWAGGA Cancer Screening Team

Together, we delivered wrap-around support that addressed physical health, mental wellbeing, lifestyle change and early detection — all in one space, for one community.

💛 This is what SWAGGA is all about. Early detection. Prevention. Compassion. And healthier futures for South Liverpool.

🌹 SWAGGA Solutions Valentines Afternoon Tea – What a Day! 💕

SWAGGA Solutions is a collaboration between SWAGGA PCN and Local Solutions and forms a key arm of SWAGGA’s Ageing Well Strategic Frailty Programme led by Dr Luke Wilkinson.

SWAGGA Solutions Wellbeing Hub is on every Wednesday 10.00-2.00pm at Middleton Court, Speke, L24 2AB and is open to everyone over the age of 55. These are drop is sessions so just turn up on the day and our Care Coordinators will welcome you and introduce you to everyone.

Yesterday we welcomed a fantastic turnout of local residents aged 55+ for our Valentines Afternoon Tea at Middleton Court — and the energy was incredible! 🎉
We even had a 93 year old join us, who’s now booked in with our Social Prescriber for exercise support. If he can do it… what’s your excuse??!! 💪😄

The room was buzzing with laughter, music, and plenty of friendly competition thanks to:
🎵 Valentines Music Bingo
🧠 Memory Match
🃏 Play Your Cards Right
❤️ Healthy Heart Quiz
There was a brilliant vibe throughout, topped off with plenty of sing along and shared moments.

Alongside the fun came essential health support. We provided:
✔️ NHS Health Checks
✔️ Ageing Well Clinics
✔️ Social Prescribing Support
✔️ Cancer Support Information
…as well as vital GP support, bringing a doctor out of the usual practice and right into the heart of the neighbourhood — making healthcare more accessible, comfortable, and community centred.

❤️ Making These Events Possible

It is the shared vision of the SWAGGA Directors — Dr Coleen McCabe, Gina Barnett & Dr Udit Gupta — to continue expanding, improving, and elevating these events, with a commitment to bringing this level of support, fun, and health promotion to every area across the SWAGGA network.

Events like this don’t happen by accident and they couldn’t happen without additional funding. Our Managing Director, Gina Barnett, works tirelessly to bid for and secure crucial resources that allow us to bring health services directly into the heart of your neighbourhood.

Her dedication ensures that patients across South Liverpool receive the best, most convenient, and most equitable care possible. Without this funding and leadership, community events of this quality simply wouldn’t be achievable.

🌟 A Vision for the Whole Network

These events don’t just support health, they bring neighbourhoods together, help reduce social isolation, and create meaningful connections between residents, services, and community partners.

The event also provided a much needed opportunity for the SWAGGA leadership team to sit down with residents, listen to what matters most to them, and gather real insights that will help shape and prioritise the services our communities want and need. 🗣️💬

Your voices are helping design the future of local healthcare.

And this is just the beginning…
✨ Keep an eye out for more fun, engaging, and health boosting events coming to your area soon! ✨

Don’t forget SWAGGA Solutions Wellbeing Hub is on every Wednesday 10.00-2.00pm at Middleton Court, Speke, L24 2AB – come down for a cuppa and some fun ☕

Together, we’re building healthier, happier, more connected neighbourhoods. ❤️✨

🌟 How SWAGGA PCN Is Supporting You With Cancer Screening in South Liverpool Through Our Bits'n'B***s Cancer Strategy

At SWAGGA PCN, our number one priority is you—our patients. We are committed to making cancer screening easier to understand, easier to access, and more comfortable for everyone across Speke, Woolton, Aigburth, Gateacre, Garston, Allerton and Netherley.
We know that early diagnosis saves lives, which is why we’ve been working hard to remove the barriers that stop people from attending screening. Whether it's breast, cervical or bowel cancer screening, our teams are out in the community, listening to your concerns, offering support and helping you get the appointments you need.
From pop‑up events in supermarkets and community centres, to dedicated phone support, to bringing screening services closer to home, SWAGGA PCN is committed to ensuring every patient—no matter their background, circumstances or worries—has the opportunity to detect cancer early. Because your health matters. Your peace of mind matters.
Together, we’re making cancer screening the norm in South Liverpool. ❤️

✨ What We’ve Been Doing Through SWAGGA Bits ’n’ B***s ✨
💗 Bringing screening support into your community
We’ve delivered more than 95 community pop‑ups, engaging with over 1,700 people across South Liverpool. Many patients were able to book their screening appointments there and then with help from our Cancer Care Coordinators.
💗 Reaching those who face the greatest barriers
We’ve worked personally with asylum seekers, people with learning disabilities and individuals with severe mental illness—providing education, extended appointments and tailored support. This has already led to a big rise in screening attendance and earlier diagnoses.
💗 Making screening more accessible
After patients told us the mammogram bus was too far away, we successfully worked to have it moved into a local supermarket car park in Speke—making it more convenient and easier for women to attend.
💗 Turning hair salons into safe spaces for life‑saving conversations
Through our Bits ’n’ B***s Champions project, we’re training local hairdressers to confidently talk about screening in a relaxed, everyday setting. Our branded mugs, stickers and booklets help spark natural conversations while you’re having your hair done.
💗 Real impact for real people
Because more patients are now attending their screening appointments, over 500 additional cancers have been detected early across SWAGGA PCN. Early detection saves lives—and this impact shows how powerful community support can be.

If you would like to understand more on how and why Bits'n'B***s was created, watch our most recent presentation at the following link: https://vimeo.com/1162157320?share=copy&fl=sv&fe=ci
