Back to School Check-In for Parents and Carers

We would love to hear how the return to school has been for you and your child/young person.

This short survey gives parents and carers the chance to share what has gone well and what challenges you may have faced since the new school year began.
If your child or young person uses school transport, there are also a few questions about how this has been working for you.
Your feedback helps us understand parents’ experiences, highlight what is working well, and raise any concerns with schools and the Local Authority.

The survey should take no more than a few minutes to complete.

📢 Important Announcement

We are deeply concerned to hear the news that the ADHD Foundation – The Neurodiversity Charity – has closed and entered into liquidation.

This service has been a lifeline for so many children, young people, and families in our city and beyond. The closure will understandably cause a great deal of uncertainty and worry.

We will be seeking clarification on what this means for families locally, and will share any updates as soon as we have them.

💜 In the meantime, our thoughts are with the staff, volunteers, and—most importantly—the families who have been supported by the Foundation over the years.

➡️ If you need support, the Foundation has signposted to other charities that may be able to help:
• ADHD UK: https://adhduk.co.uk
• Sunshine Support: https://sunshine-support.org
• The Brain Charity: https://thebraincharity.org.uk

We are so proud and honoured to have been part of the Sensory Friendly Environment project, alongside children, young people, parents, and partners, to make hospital settings more inclusive and accessible.

This published research highlights the voices of children, young people, and families with sensory needs, and how together we can influence change in healthcare environments.

It’s incredible to see lived experience shaping practice and making a real difference 💜

HEART BREAKING BUT VERY TRUE 💔

Dear teachers, 🤗
Next week, when those sweet faces show up in your classroom for the first time and you want to give that familiar homework of “What I did this summer!!” , please consider the kid whose family couldn’t afford a holiday ☹️ the kid who took care of younger siblings because their grown-up slept all day 😕 the kid who hid under the covers at 2 a.m. trying to escape the screaming and cursing 😞 the kid who is looking forward to lunch because they’ve only had the same sandwich all summer or haven’t been fed at all and have spent their Summer looking for ways to feed themselves.😧, the kid wearing last year’s clothes because their family couldn’t afford new ones 😪.
There are kids dreading the first day of school because they have no good answer for what they did this summer when what they really did was just survive. 😱
So please consider a different question. Perhaps “what I’m looking forward to about this school year,” . But please, don’t make them go around the room or write a paragraph telling about their summer. Sadly, for a lot of kids, the best part is that summer is over.
