There really isn’t an off switch for us podiatrists.
Even when I’m at my happy place, I find myself analysing footprints in the sand. People’s, dogs’, birds’, and even the horses’. It’s an obsession I can’t switch off.
September 22nd marked the start of autumn, and those footprints have gradually disappeared. My early morning runs in darkness and evening even strolls in the pitch black mean I’ll have to wait until 2026 to study beach gaits again (though here at Foot & Leg we analyse gait most days on our NEW clinic with our NEW treadmill).
We’re lucky in Formby to have such a stunning beach right on our doorstep. It’s brilliant to see people making the most of it with coastal walks and runs.
However, following summer, we’ve seen a number of patients come in with Achilles injuries of MTSS injuries linked to beach running. The softer surfaces place extra demand on the body, and without the right approach, it can lead to MSK problems.
If you’re struggling with lower limb pain, pop into the clinic. We can help treat the injury and guide you on how to manage it properly..🦵🏾✨
We’ve got you!
