Carly’s Adventures 🌿

Carly’s care is designed around her life, her choices and the things that bring her joy. With bespoke, personalised support, Carly is able to live life as fully and independently as possible while enjoying meaningful moments out in the community.

Last week Carly was supported by Noah and Mariola for a lovely day out at the park. Fresh air, nature and time outdoors can do wonders for wellbeing, and of course the day wouldn’t be complete without one of Carly’s favourite treats, something sweet!

Moments like these are what truly matter. Our approach to complex, person-centred care means we take the time to understand what makes each person happy and build support around that. It’s this dedication to personalised care that helps people like Carly continue enjoying the things they love.

Because great care isn’t just about support, it’s about living well, feeling valued and making every day meaningful.

Joanne’s Adventures ✨

Joanne had an amazing time enjoying a magical day out at Disney on Ice! From the moment the lights went down and the music started, Joanne was fully immersed in the show – taking in all the colour, excitement and incredible performances on the ice.

The day also included celebrating Chinese New Year, exploring the waterfront and, of course, treating herself to a well-deserved ice cream, the perfect way to top off a busy and fun-filled day.

After a busy week, Joanne was supported by Becca to have a day designed entirely around Joanne’s interests, choices and enjoyment. Seeing Joanne laughing, exploring and soaking up the atmosphere is exactly what person-centred support is all about.

At Mountbatton Care, we believe the best days are the ones shaped by the people we support, making sure their voices, interests and passions are always at the heart of what we do.

Leo’s Adventures 🎣

Leo recently enjoyed a brilliant day out doing one of the things he loves most – fishing and spending time in nature. There’s something special about being outdoors by the water, taking in the fresh air and enjoying the calm that fishing brings.

Leo showed real patience and focus throughout the day, and it certainly paid off when he caught a beautiful mirror carp towards the end of the session!

True to Leo’s love of animals and respect for nature, the carp was safely returned to the water, ready to swim another day.

Days like this are a great example of person-centred care, where activities are tailored around the things that bring someone genuine happiness. Seeing Leo relaxed, engaged and enjoying one of his favourite hobbies made it a truly special day.

Well done Leo – we’re already looking forward to the next adventure! 🌿

Whilst on mobile patrol our colleagues were flagged down by a member of public. Officers were directed towards an elderly resident.

It was explained to Officers that the resident was found aimlessly wandering around, raising concern and when spoken with appeared confused. Officers spoke with the resident who did appear quite confused, they did state their name but when asked other questions such are her age, they said "2 years old" , and when asked "where are you?" they responded with, "here". The resident was also talking incoherently, having conversations that did not make complete sense; when asked where they lived they pointed in 2 different directions.

An Ambulance was called and Officers began to conduct checks to locate the next of kin for the resident.

The resident had two different shoes on and showed other signs of lack of self care. After conducting checks, the residents home address was located - no one else appeared to be at the address. Upon conducting house to house, a neighbour confirmed the residents identity and informed officers that the resident has dementia, having carers come into the address twice a day.

Following this we have contacted the family and have told them about The Herbert Protocol.

If you haven't heard of The Herbert Protocol before, it's a form that carers, family or friends of a vulnerable person, or the person themselves, can fill in.

The form is used to help the police if the person goes missing. It may include information such as places where they used to live, or places where they socialised or worked.

Keeping a completed form means you don’t have to try to remember the information when you are under stress if someone goes missing. And it saves time, so we can start the search sooner.

This form helps us to save those valuable minutes when someone is reported as missing.

Here is the link for the form - https://orlo.uk/bc5Zj

Here is a link with more information about The Herbert Protocol - https://orlo.uk/ST7wd

This post is to publicly thank the member of public who stopped to help and then flagged us down. You've helped someone vulnerable in their time of need.

Unfortunately situations like this don't always have a happy ending, however thankfully the family have been able to put the right support in place for this individual. We want this post to encourage other families who are sitting on the fence of whether to take action to complete this form.

Don't wait until something happens, or your loved one goes missing. Time is crucial when someone is reported missing, especially in these circumstances.

Brain Tumour Awareness Month – March 2026 🧠💛

March marks Brain Tumour Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, share knowledge, and support those affected by brain tumours and their families.

Brain tumours are complex and varied, with over 130 different types, and no two experiences are the same. For some people the impact is sudden and intense, while for others it develops gradually—affecting independence, work, relationships, confidence and mental wellbeing.

Knowing the potential warning signs can help people seek medical advice sooner. Symptoms vary depending on the tumour’s size and location, but common persistent symptoms may include:

• Persistent or changing headaches (often worse in the morning or when coughing or bending)
• New seizures or fits
• Vision changes such as blurred or double vision
• Ongoing nausea or unexplained vomiting
• Memory problems, confusion or personality changes
• Weakness or numbness on one side of the body
• Balance or coordination difficulties
• Extreme or ongoing fatigue

If you or someone you know is experiencing persistent or unexplained symptoms, it’s always important to seek medical advice.

There are also incredible organisations across the UK providing support, information and practical help for individuals and families affected by brain tumours, including:
💛 The Brain Tumour Charity
💛 Brain Tumour Support
💛 Brainstrust
💛 Macmillan Cancer Support
💛 Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG)

Awareness, understanding and support can make a huge difference for those navigating life with a brain tumour.
