Starting Thursday 7th August, 11am–1pm, we’re launching a 10-week men's group designed to build strength, connection, and support — without judgement, pressure, or pretense.

This is a space where you can speak freely and listen deeply to other men facing life’s challenges. Whether it’s stress, relationships, work, identity, or just needing to be heard — you’re not alone.

A massive thank you to Pat Hughes — a wonderfully generous friend and dedicated volunteer at Tree Caterers Liverpool & Bay Tree Cookery Academy CIC for donating a large quantity of cooking apples to our food pantry this week.
With our food distributor having gone into administration just two weeks ago, this donation has made a huge difference to what we've been able to offer our pantry members.
We are incredibly grateful for all the support from our community and for the patience and understanding shown by our pantry members during this time.

A massive thank you to everyone who came to our first free community meal on Friday as part of our Shared Plates, Shared Stories programme!
We were absolutely thrilled with the turnout and the wonderful atmosphere!

Over the past eight weeks, we've been working with an amazing group of women from Liverpool, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, and Azerbaijan. Through this programme, we've shared stories, explored each other’s cultures, and exchanged traditional recipes. Each woman brought in a dish from her heritage, and Michelle from Bay Tree Caterers Liverpool & Bay Tree Cookery Academy CIC helped teach the group how to cook each one.

To celebrate the end of the programme, the women came together to cook these recipes for the community and what a feast it was! Everyone enjoyed sampling dishes from different cultures, and the women were proud to share what they had learned.
Thank you to Michelle and all the women who took part. It was wonderful working with you all and we were so proud!

At the meal, we encouraged guests to talk to at least one person they didn’t know and it was heartwarming to see so many new conversations spark around the table.

Thank you again to everyone who joined us and helped make the event such a success. Thank you to Our Liverpool for funding the programme. We can’t wait for the next one!

We will be running the Shared Plates, Shared Stories programme again. If you'd like to learn how to cook with women from different cultures please get in touch 0151 222 3507 communitydevelopment@josephlappincentre.co.uk

This week we said goodbye to Milly & Alex who have been volunteering with us for a few months, along with David. They are part of the Young Adult Respite Service and have been fantastic, helping us in the garden, reception and preparing for and supporting The Joseph Lappin Festival. We have loved having them and will miss their smiles and enthusiasm. We look forward to welcoming more of the YARS team in coming months.

A massive thank you to Old Swan Tesco's who came to our rescue this week! Our food provider Knowsley Food bank went into administration last week leaving us with less food on our shelves than usual. Julia, Tesco's community champion was on hand to help out and we are so grateful for our donation.

A massive thank you to Tony and Dennis from SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, who kindly brought in beautiful round courgettes and beetroots from their allotment as a donation to our food pantry

SSAFA provides lifelong support to serving men and women, veterans, and their families — and we’re so grateful for their generosity and connection to the community.

Dennis and Tony have also have been working hard in our garden, helping construct our new growing space — we appreciate everything they do!

Also, just look at the basket in the third picture — that’s what we’ve been producing ourselves! Without Tony and Dennis (along with Niki Granby Toxteth Development Trust) we wouldn't be able to produce our own fresh food for our food pantry.
