I know this time of year isn't easy for everyone. I hope that wherever these words find you that you're safe, well and warm and able to be doing the things you want to.

I can't say I'm a fan of this time of year - I find the constant push to spend money and do things that often feel overwhelming is tricky - it feels like there is a lot of pressure to do things a particular way. I like creating my own rituals for this time of year and doing things that ease my senses rather than over stimulate them - and I know I'm in a privileged position that I can make those choices, not everyone can.

So, however you're spending your day today, I thought I'd share some places that offer support, so that if you or someone you love is struggling, you have some options. I've updated this to try and include places open on the bank holidays and Refuge, Samaritans, Shout, Campaign Against Living Miserably, Cruse Bereavement Support and Switchboard LGBT+ Support Line Helplines are open today and every day over Christmas and New Year. Cruse has slightly different opening times to their usual advertised times so it's worth checking if you want to reach out to them. All have some great resources on their accounts and websites and I feel fortunate to have been a Samaritan volunteer in the past.

Take good care of you ❤️

We have now set the dates for our Lancaster Hakomi trainings for this coming year. For those of you who maybe don’t know much about Hakomi, it is a body-mind practice that supports self-study and is a great way to develop self-awareness, slow down and explore the habits that are driving us.

I’m really looking forward to a year ahead of more Hakomi. Having a break this past year was really difficult and I enjoyed so much coming back in October and having shorter online offerings too. What I love so much about this practice is how spacious it feels, whatever state we might be in. This feels like the best gift I can give to others.

If you're interested in experiencing Hakomi in a shorter way to get a feel for the practice or how me and Vicky teach, there is one more online introduction and if you want something longer or you want to train as a practitioner, the weekend trainings are an ideal way to do this. I have found these trainings to be a rich source of nourishment and we offer them experientially which means it's less of us talking, more of us being, with lots if practices and group work. We meet at The Friends Meeting House in Lancaster which is very close to the city centre and right next door to the train station.

Our January training is coming up quickly! We are taking bookings for this on Eventbrite 🔗in comments.

Winter solstice greetings to you! 🌙✨

It's been a while since I posted something connected to the seasons. This year seems to have passed so quickly and I'm not sure how we've reached this point! Yesterday was a new moon and today is the winter solstice for those of us in the northern hemisphere. It is also the astronomical start of winter.

I was reading about how often we focus on the return of light at this time - it can be hard during winter with the long nights and I know for me that I yearn for the return of the sun. In similar ways, I have been yearning for lighter times, sometimes deep processes feel dark, unending and a very alone place to be and at the same time, there are some things we can only do and see in the dark. Our body (or circadian) rhythm mean that night time is the best for us to rest and sleep and so much can impact that process. We can only see the stars at night and what beauties they are and there are some flowers that only blossom in the night. I often find that what I'm doing in life is learning to be with what is rather than what I wish it to be and wishing my life away to the next thing that I imagine will be good. It's not an easy practice!

I like to mark the winter solstice as my main celebration at this time of year and I use the wheel of the year (which marks the solstices, equinoxes and midpoints through the year) as a way to make regular time off and live more in alignment with nature and the seasons. This for me also allows me to step out of some of the western cultural traditions that I find difficult and feels a more authentic way of coming home to myself and find ritual and spiritual ways to express myself that align with my values.

My out of office is on, and I am hoping to make a few automated posts for the coming weeks so that there is something here and I can take time away from the screen. However you find this time of year, I wish you treasures in the darkness.

Yesterday we had our Introduction to Hakomi online on the theme of rest and I read this gorgeous poem which feels so fitting for the time of year and was a way for me to honour Andrea’s passing earlier this year. I only discovered their work relatively recently and wow!

Instead of Depression
by Andrea Gibson

try calling it hibernation.
Imagine the darkness is a cave
in which you will be nurtured
by doing absolutely nothing.
Hibernating animals don’t even dream.
It’s okay if you can’t imagine
Spring. Sleep through the alarm
of the world. Name your hopelessness
a quiet hollow, a place you go
to heal, a den you dug,
Sweetheart, instead
of a grave.

One of the things I love most in life is poetry. This past year has been hard at times for different reasons and committing more to my creative poetry writing has been so restorative and joyous! I was delighted yesterday to hear one of my poems has been shortlisted for a book! Please support the crowdfunding if you can - this book will create an UPROAR! 🦁🌈

Hi everyone,

Our next multi-level Hakomi in-person training is less than a month away! This is the last of the year and Jamie's first full weekend after a year off. It is for those of you seeking a deep dive into this experiential approach known as Hakomi.

If you’ve attended one of our trainings before you’ll have heard it said, Hakomi is caught rather than taught. Cast your heart net and come gather some creatures from your deep! We use tried and tested, gentle and powerful practices to awaken the body’s knowing and our theme this weekend focuses on the Refined Hakomi method.

Join us for a special Hakomi workshop inspired by the final public teaching of Ron Kurtz - a rare and heartfelt transmission of the method he developed through decades of therapeutic insight.

📅 Dates and times: Saturday 4th October 10am - 5.30pm and Sunday 5th October 2pm - 6.45pm
📍Location: Lancaster Friends Meeting House
💷Cost: £210

You do not need any prior knowledge or experience of Hakomi and it is open to anyone willing to explore a mindful approach to self-understanding.

Summer solstice greetings to you! Today is the summer equinox in the northern hemisphere, the longest day of the year and the shortest night. This means that the light will start to decrease from today. It has me thinking about the balance of dark and light, that while here it's the longest day, in the southern hemisphere it's the shortest day and how everything is a balance of dark and light, how everything is connected.

I take more time off around this time of year and like to mark the turning of seasons, although the sun is at the height of it's energy here, I'm not sure I feel in sync with that and as I reflect on what's happening in the world around me I see so many challenges; such awful violence and war, oppression and abuse of power. It is grim. How do we find the balance of acknowledging these conflicts and causes close to our hearts that cause such darkness and take care of ourselves and our energy. It is complex and I hope that whatever might be happening in your part of the world, and however these various political and global and local events might be impacting you and I'm curious how you find the balance of activism in life, supporting causes you are close to and managing your energy and resources?

I feel much gratitude for those around me that offer light and I welcome new followers - I'm so glad you're here! I'm hoping to post some updates in coming weeks as I reflect on what's been happening in recent months with my research start to think and plan ahead into the second half of the year.

What’s on offer

I work holistically to support emotional, mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. I offer Person-Centred Counselling and Hakomi Assisted Self Study. I am particularly interested in the body-mind connection and spirituality and have training and experience in working with bereavement.

I am still seeing clients face to face, and following advice from Public Health England, the NHS and my professional body – the BACP.

For those people at high risk from the infection, or who are self-isolating, I can offer a free 30 minute online or telephone consultation – we can use this with a view to discussing further future session, or we can use this as emotional support during this difficult time.
