Hi everyone,

Our next multi-level Hakomi in-person training is less than a month away! This is the last of the year and Jamie's first full weekend after a year off. It is for those of you seeking a deep dive into this experiential approach known as Hakomi.

If you’ve attended one of our trainings before you’ll have heard it said, Hakomi is caught rather than taught. Cast your heart net and come gather some creatures from your deep! We use tried and tested, gentle and powerful practices to awaken the body’s knowing and our theme this weekend focuses on the Refined Hakomi method.

Join us for a special Hakomi workshop inspired by the final public teaching of Ron Kurtz - a rare and heartfelt transmission of the method he developed through decades of therapeutic insight.

📅 Dates and times: Saturday 4th October 10am - 5.30pm and Sunday 5th October 2pm - 6.45pm
📍Location: Lancaster Friends Meeting House
💷Cost: £210

You do not need any prior knowledge or experience of Hakomi and it is open to anyone willing to explore a mindful approach to self-understanding.

Hi all,

I teach an embodied somatic practice called Hakomi, which is a great way to gain more self-awareness. We’re doing a short online introduction on Saturday 16th August. We’re asking for a donation for this of £20 and want to make it accessible to all – particularly if you’re interested in finding out more about Hakomi and it would be helpful to have a taste of what we’re about before committing to a full weekend.

You do not need any prior knowledge or experience of Hakomi and it is open to anyone willing to explore a mindful approach to self-understanding.

This online session will be made up of experiential Hakomi practices, working as a whole group, in small groups and individually with spacious breaks.

The cost is by donation - we invite a donation of £20.
The times are 10am to 12pm (2 hours).
You can book by our Eventbrite link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/introduction-to-hakomi-tickets-1496296596399

Summer solstice greetings to you! Today is the summer equinox in the northern hemisphere, the longest day of the year and the shortest night. This means that the light will start to decrease from today. It has me thinking about the balance of dark and light, that while here it's the longest day, in the southern hemisphere it's the shortest day and how everything is a balance of dark and light, how everything is connected.

I take more time off around this time of year and like to mark the turning of seasons, although the sun is at the height of it's energy here, I'm not sure I feel in sync with that and as I reflect on what's happening in the world around me I see so many challenges; such awful violence and war, oppression and abuse of power. It is grim. How do we find the balance of acknowledging these conflicts and causes close to our hearts that cause such darkness and take care of ourselves and our energy. It is complex and I hope that whatever might be happening in your part of the world, and however these various political and global and local events might be impacting you and I'm curious how you find the balance of activism in life, supporting causes you are close to and managing your energy and resources?

I feel much gratitude for those around me that offer light and I welcome new followers - I'm so glad you're here! I'm hoping to post some updates in coming weeks as I reflect on what's been happening in recent months with my research start to think and plan ahead into the second half of the year.

This week I’ll be facilitating a methodology workshop on my doctoral research at the 31st British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy International Research Conference co-hosted by The University of Manchester on Saturday 17th May 2025 on the theme of impact through collaboration.

My research explores co-researcher's embodied experience of recovery from spiritual trauma using embodied Heuristic Inquiry. I'm excited to share with others about my work and I've planned for some exploration and discussion of Heuristic Inquiry and embodied methodologies, identity, my research, bodies and language, creativity and self-care. I'm also looking forward to hearing about others' research.

🗓️ Workshop: Saturday 17th May – Strand 5 (Foster) at 11:00am
📍 Venue: Hyatt Regency, Manchester
🎤 Co-hosted by BACP & The University of Manchester

Thanks to Elizabeth Holt for inspiring this post!

Today is the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, which marks the first official day of spring when light and dark are in balance ☀️🌙 I've noticed a lot more flowers starting to bloom, especially the daffodils and I'm hearing so much more birdsong 🌱🌷🪻🐦🎶

Today is also Ostara, celebrated in the pagan or wiccan calendar and the name comes from the goddess Eostre symbolising new beginnings, nature's rebirth and themes of renewal, growth, and balance. I like the idea of equilibrium and can feel my energy increasing as the light increases and it feels like a delicate balance between rest and activity at times, I imagine it as walking a tightrope in a way and I wonder how you find equilibrium?

I seem to have a theme running through various activities this week of boundaries and this feels like a great way to find equilibrium. Something has stayed with me from those things I've listened to this week about boundaries which is that they are already there, we just need to listen to them. How do you listen to your boundaries? I think for me, as with a lot of things it comes back to listening to my body-self.

Towards the end of last year I was awarded the honour of becoming a Hakomi trainer! This feels such a precious experience to me and my amazing trainers and mentors Vicky and Trudy came to Liverpool to celebrate and we went to my favourite restaurant to eat and share together. Last month I joined with other Hakomi trainers for my first gathering with them. It was lovely to be connected in this way together.

The news is being shared in various places and Vicky shared the news with our Hakomi Lancaster community through our latest newsletter. They will meet this coming weekend and I am sad to miss being with them. If you’ve been following here for a while, you may know I’ve been fortunate to be part of the Hakomi community since around 2012 and this is the longest gap I've taken from being at the weekends.

If you're interested to learn more about my journey with Hakomi, I shared some of this in a recent Hakomi Education Network newsletter and thought I'd also share it here.

There have been so many things in my history that led me to discovering Hakomi; a deep love of biology and a real hunger to understand myself and others were part of that. You might say I’ve always been asking where I stand in relation to the many realms of life. Hakomi was like a missing piece of a jigsaw I didn’t even know I was looking for. Initially I wasn’t that interested in this as something other than a personal journey of self-discovery and a way to meet others. I was drawn to my practitioner certification after some years growing in community as part of Hakomi Lancaster and feeling my practice deepening in different ways; through seeing changes in my day to day life as well as my natural curiosity leading me to discussions with other students and exploring how we understood Hakomi as a practice. In particular, a group of us used to practise and study together - we were very excited to be learning Hakomi and there was joy in doing this together. From this group I came to know one of my closest friends. I also had the privilege of learning from wonderful trainers and mentors: Trudy and Vicky. There was a deep sense of community for me with them, Josh and others. Through my long history in education and a desire to give back to a community I felt was giving so much to me, and through the relationships that had grown between us, it seemed so natural and organic that I became more involved.

Timeline:

• My journey with Hakomi started in January 2012 and I attended weekend trainings in Lancaster as well as some of the retreats in Sheffield and Devon for a longer, more immersive experience.

• I completed my 45 days of training in May 2016 and started practising and studying with three others in a regular group. During this time we offered free sessions to other Hakomi students and anyone interested in exploring themselves in this way.

• I went on to be certified as a Hakomi Practitioner in May 2018 and from then started assisting the Hakomi Lancaster training team. I also started offering workshops, practice groups and coaching groups in-person and online.

• I became a Hakomi Teacher in November 2020 and started teaching with Trudy and Vicky in 2021 as part of Hakomi Lancaster and most recently I have become a Hakomi Trainer, made official in August 2024.

My own explorations are taking me deeper into understanding my own neurodivergence and queerness and how embodied these experiences are. I can see that some of how I stand in relation to the many realms of being human is with some differences and I’m really interested and excited to bring these differences into my Hakomi offerings.

For anyone interested in learning about Hakomi and becoming certified, in the method, I can say this has always been a path of love for me, my only advice is to follow your heart.

In being welcomed into the Hakomi trainers team, I was inspired to write a poem that I think captures something of my process and where I stand in relation to Hakomi:

𝐀𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬
𝑏𝑦 𝐽𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑒 𝐹𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑛

It was never about becoming,
Or certificates or money.
Never about rubber stamps,
Or change and transformation.
It was never about doing or having or knowing.
Never even about learning, although I suspect that did happen too!

It was always about this different place,
where I meet you;
Right at the edge of where I end and you begin.
It was always about the gentle holding of a heart, or a hand or feet.
The rambunctious bleating and lowing and laughing!
The leaning in to solidity,
And the gruesome willingness to travel together even when it gets hard.
Into the thick of it,
Right to the heart.
It was always about love.

I'm not very good at taking photos at significant points in my life, I try to live in the moment and it's only afterwards I think of it. I wish I had taken one of Trudy and Vicky with me when they visited. Instead, here is a photo I took back in May 2023 of us sitting in the sun in front of the Lancaster Friends Meeting House.

This week when I've been out in nature I'm seeing the flower buds of crocuses and daffodils 🌱🌷🪻 and today is Imbolc, celebrated as a Gaelic seasonal festival. The word meaning 'in the belly'. I wonder what is in your belly as we start to see more light and a shift in the seasons? What have you been gestating in the dark of winter?

I have been working on some writing and continuing with my research and planning some 'birthings' if you like to present my research later in the year.

I've been thinking about that liminal place between the darkness of winter and the light of spring, between hibernation and waking, between inactivity and rest and activity and action. How do you navigate when to rest and when to move and what type of rest or movement do you choose?

It doesn't always feel a choiceful place for me, I often feel like I'm pushed into action before I'm ready through circumstances.

Happy new year! ✨🌙

As we pass the threshold of 2024 ending and 2025 beginning, I want to wish you all the best for the coming year. I don't know how you feel about endings and beginnings and whilst I don't particularly do anything to celebrate on new year, I did spend time with a friend. I have been reflecting on endings and beginnings and on this past year. Emergence was my word for 2024 and I definitely feel like more of me emerged and that there’s more to come! 🐛🦋 I found I needed more space this year to do my research and so stepped back from a lot of things which has been more of a submerging. This year I’m choosing my word for the year to be relax – those of you who’ve done some Hakomi training may know it’s one of the key states we’re looking for to start from, and in much of my work towards the end of the year, this kept being reaffirmed to me in different ways.

Whatever your thoughts, feelings and bodily experiences at this time of starting a new year, I hope that you are able to give space for them, holding them with tender compassion. I wish for you a year ahead that is filled with spaces where you can be fully yourself and connection with those you love, including yourself.

I mentioned a while back that I'm taking a break from my teaching at the moment to focus on my research and if you're wanting to do some Hakomi training, there are plenty of opportunities coming up in the coming year with the wonderful Vicky Gaughan in Lancaster. You can also follow Hakomi Lancaster for updates...

Wishing all our followers a wonderful festive time. Looking forward to seeing you in 2025.

What’s on offer

I work holistically to support emotional, mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing. I offer Person-Centred Counselling and Hakomi Assisted Self Study. I am particularly interested in the body-mind connection and spirituality and have training and experience in working with bereavement.

I am still seeing clients face to face, and following advice from Public Health England, the NHS and my professional body – the BACP.

For those people at high risk from the infection, or who are self-isolating, I can offer a free 30 minute online or telephone consultation – we can use this with a view to discussing further future session, or we can use this as emotional support during this difficult time.
