Gray Healthcare

Gray Healthcare We are an award-winning complex care provider helping people move out of hospitals and other long stay institutions and into a home of their own for good.

We can provide the ongoing clinical support needed in a home setting. We are a national award-winning complex care provider who want to help more people across the UK with complex needs move out of hospitals and into a home of their own for good. We pioneered our innovative community care alternative to inpatient care back in 2007. With our clinically informed framework embedded with trauma inform

ed principles, everything about the support we deliver is tailored around each person. From our specialist staff training programme, clinical assessments to our in-reach programme, no detail is overlooked. We support people with learning disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, acquired brain injuries and other complex needs.

Today is National Schizophrenia Day, where we take a moment to raise awareness, challenge stigma and champion the right support for people living with schizophrenia.

We're proud to share a short animation that tells the story of Ben, who with the right clinically-informed package of support in place was able to finally move out of hospital after three years and into a home of his own.

๐ŸกBen's journey shows what's possible when we focus on people, not just diagnoses.

๐ŸŽž๏ธWatch our animation and see how collaborative, creative support, built through co-production changed Ben's life.

โ“'Where do you have vacancies?' is a question we're asked all the time by our referrers and families, but to us this question reflects the traditional view of supported living.

There's a common assumption that people can only move into properties already owned by providers. But that sometimes means:
๐Ÿ“ a location that isn't right for the person
๐Ÿข and a shared setting that doesn't suit their complex needs.

Our approach is different. We start with the person, not the property.
๐Ÿก We work with the individual and their family to find a home of their own in the geographical area they choose.
๐Ÿงฉ We focus on creating a bespoke support package around their life
๐Ÿ’ฌ We collaborate with our referrers to make it happen.

This Good Care Month, we're celebrating the moments that make working in care so special: the small wins, the big smiles and the strong relationships we build with the people we support that stay with us.

We asked our teams to share their 'best day' stories, the stories that remind them why they chose a career in care. By sharing these stories, we hope they remind you why you went into care, and why your work continues to make such a difference every single day.

โ“ Today's 's question is 'Can you support individuals who are non-verbal?'

Yes - we support many people who are non-verbal or who have difficulty expressing themselves. One of the five key drivers of our clinical framework is co-production, enabling the people we support to make their own choices about how they live their lives and how they want to be supported.

To make sure every voice is heard, we use a range of evidence-based communication tools, such as Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) and Talking Mats to help individuals express their needs, choices and preferences.

๐Ÿ‘‰Adults with debts and those who were not employed were more likely to have a common mental health condition.
๐Ÿ‘‰People with a diagnosed physical health condition, that limited their activities, were more likely to have a common mental health condition.

We're often asked whether our clinically-informed alternative to traditional supported living services can really deliver good clinical outcomes for the complex people we support.

The answer is yes!

Each year, we publish an Outcome Report that demonstrates the progress the people we support make across several key indicators. The image below is an extract from our latest report and demonstrates that a third of the complex people we support need fewer support hours than they did when we first started supporting them. This , we're delighted to share Adam's journey with us. When we met Adam, he was an inpatient in an adult mental health hospital, with a significant trauma history and behaviours perceived to be challenging. He joined us on a 3:1 24 hour package of support. He no longer needs this high level of support. Find out how we reduced his package of support: https://www.grayhealthcare.com/case-study/adams-story/
