This week’s pose of the week is the Headstand, also known as the Adho Mukha Vrikshasana.

To get in this position, the body is inverted and perpendicular to the Earth, with the legs actively engaged and extended upwards. The weight of the body is on the hands, shoulder width apart, with the fingers forward and parallel to each other. The shoulder blades are firm against the back torso and pulled up to the tailbone. The upper arms are rotated outward with the eye of the elbow to the front to keep the shoulder blades broad while the outer arms hug inward in opposing forces for balance and stability. The palms are spread and the bases of the index fingers are pressed firmly against the earth. The gaze is down and forward

Yoga is beneficial to participate in as groups due to fostering a sense of community between Yogi’s as well as promotion of empathy and understanding of participants. In a space where mindfulness is encouraged, practitioners apply this to non-judgmental and compassionate communication.

Class Spotlight: Gentle Candlelit🕯️✨

Relax and unwind, you've reached the middle of the week! Pennie will guide you through a gentle and meditative practice, with a focus on tuning into the breath and finishing with a wonderful restorative meditation, all done by candlelight.

This class takes place at Yogacita, based in the Old Gun Factory, Liverpool on the 1st floor! Every Wednesday, 7:30pm - 8:30pm. The aim of this class is to provide a gentle practice, that enhances relaxation, and encourages greater mindfulness and awareness.

This week’s pose of the week is the Chair, also known as the Utkatasana.

To achieve this position start from a standing position, with the feet together and rooted into the Earth with the toes lifted. The knees are bent and the weight of the body is placed in the heels of the feet. Tuck the pelvis and lift the ribcage with the neck being a natural extension of the spine. The arms are lifted toward the sky with elbows straight and biceps by the ears. The hands are facing each other with the fingers spread wide, with the gaze forward.

Benefits of the chair:
🪑Strengthens the ankles, thighs, calves and spine.
🪑Stretches shoulders and chest.
🪑Stimulates the abdominal organs, diaphragm and heart.
🪑Reduces flat feet.
🪑Energises the entire body.

Did you know… Aromatherapy complements yoga by promoting mental clarity and regulation through scent. The use of candles and essential oils can deepen relaxation and uplift mood.

The benefits of aromatherapy:

We hope everyone is having a happy Friday! Here is a reminder that Beyond Van Gogh is taking place in 15 days! If you haven’t yet secured your tickets, make sure to check the link in the bio!

This event will be taking place at the Liverpool Exhibition Centre at 9am on Saturday 19th July, and will be a 50-minute class for our Yogi’s to take part in a fun, yet challenging routine, whilst being immersed around over 400 pieces of Van Gogh’s finest creations.

The session is available for all levels of Yoga, but be warned! Materials and water will not be provided so please bring your own equipment that you may need!

This week’s pose of the week is the Humble Warrior! Also known as Baddha Virabhadrasana!

To achieve this pose, start by grounding your back leg and keeping a 90 degree bend in the front leg. Interlace your fingers behind you and expand your chest into a mini backbend, keeping the hips squared toward the front and the gaze upwards. Lift your interlaced hands up over your head, relax the neck and face muscles, keeping the shoulders squared toward the front.

Benefits of the Humble Warrior:
🤺Stretches the chest, shoulders and belly.
🤺Strengthens the shoulders, arms and back muscles.
🤺Engages the thighs, calves and ankles.

With the start of another week, Yogacita would like to brighten your week with a reminder that the Beyond Monet X Yogacita partnership is coming in just under 3 weeks!

Join us at the Liverpool Exhibition Centre at 6:45pm on Thursday 24th July, as Monet’s famous brushstrokes paint a digital canvas, creating the beautiful images of their most famous works! Taking place will be a 50-minute routine led by Pennie.
