My name is Laurie and I am a Shiva Yoga Teacher trained by Yogacharya P.R. Mohanan (Director & Founder of The International Shiva Yoga Centre). I will be teaching Shiva (Hatha) Yoga classes in a lovely and cosy room at the Aigburth People's Hall every Monday and Wednesday evening from 7-8pm. ous intermediate postures incorporated. Shiva Yoga, traditionally named Hatha Yoga, is a holistic yogic path, emphasising the four pillars of yoga: Asanas (postures), Pranayama (breathing techniques), Savasana (relaxation) and Dhyana (meditation). Hatha represents opposing energies: hot and cold (fire and water, following a similar concept to yin-yang), male and female, positive and negative. Hatha yoga attempts to balance mind and body via physical postures or "asanas", purification practices, controlled breathing and calming of the mind through relaxation and meditation. Asanas teach poise, balance and strength, as these physical postures open the energy channels, tone the body, nervous system and psychic centres. They are practiced to improve the body's physical health and clear the mind in preparation for meditation. First class is free, £5 thereafter.
