💙 Today is often called “Blue Monday”, said to be the ‘most difficult day of the year’, but as many mental health charities point out, there’s no single worst day for feeling low. What does matter is knowing you’re never alone, and it’s okay to reach out for support, connection, and care.

We walk alongside families through some of life’s hardest moments and we wanted to take the time to remind you that talking, even just having a brew and a chat, can make a real difference. There are people and organisations ready to listen and help.

🧡 If you need someone to talk to, support is available now:
📞 Samaritans – 24/7 listening support: 116 123 or email jo@samaritans.org
📞 Shout – text 85258 for free 24/7 text support
📞 C.A.L.L. (Community Advice & Listening Line) – 0800 132 737 (Wales 24/7)
📞 NHS 111 (Mental Health option) – call 111 and press 2 for urgent support

🏡 Local support in and around Colwyn Bay:
• Conwy Mind – Mental health charity providing information, counselling and wellbeing support.
• North Wales Reflections – Counselling practitioners.
• Adferiad Recovery Limited – Peer support charity, and other local wellbeing services.

❤️ If you’re struggling, please reach out to a friend, a family member, a neighbour or a support service. You matter, and there is help. Whether it’s today or any day, talking helps.

(If it’s an emergency and you or someone else is at immediate risk, always call 999.)

We are truly humbled by these kind words from a family we were honoured to support

“From the very first, heart-wrenching phone call I felt a sense of understanding and reassurance that I desperately needed…
Every interaction felt like they were truly walking beside us through shock, grief and heartbreak.
They were a light for us in the darkest days, and we will never forget their kindness.”

As the year draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on 2025 and to thank all of the families we have had the privilege of supporting, those who have attended our coffee mornings, the local community, and all those we work alongside. Your trust and support throughout the year have meant so much to us.

Over the past 12 months, we have carried out many funerals for families, each one unique. Among these were two natural burials at the Eternal Forest, many ashes burials and headstone work, and even got to use a rainbow hearse - a powerful reminder that every life should be remembered in a way that feels true to them.

We are incredibly proud of our team. This year we welcomed new full-time and casual members of staff, said goodbye to others as they moved on to new chapters, and celebrated Kelly passing her NAFD Funeral Directing Diploma with a Merit.

We are also deeply grateful to the families who chose to support charities through our online tribute pages. Together, you raised an incredible £62,400.32 in charitable donations - an increase of over £3,000 on last year - leaving a legacy of kindness and generosity alongside remembrance.

As we look ahead, we do so with gratitude for all that 2025 has brought and for the continued trust placed in us.

Wishing you a peaceful New Year’s Eve and a happy, healthy 2026 when the clock strikes midnight.

With warmest wishes,
The Tom Owen & Son Team ⭐

As Christmas approaches, many of us feel the absence of those we’ve loved and lost more deeply. This time of year can bring back memories, emotions and moments we wish we could relive.

This month, I’ve been thinking especially of my Nanna and Grandad - both of whom we lost in April 2014 - and how their presence is still felt in the stories, traditions and love they left behind.

If you’re also facing a Christmas with someone missing, our recent blog explores gentle ways to navigate grief during the festive season. We hope it brings comfort and understanding to anyone who needs it.

🌈 Every farewell should be as unique and beautiful as the life it celebrates.

For some families, that means a favourite song or flowers that capture their spirit. For others, it’s something truly one-of-a-kind like a rainbow hearse from Green's Carriage Masters shining with colour and meaning.

Coral’s family shared:

“From the moment we spoke with Kelly at Tom Owen and Son, her compassion and empathy made it feel as if she were part of our family… she went the extra mile to ensure every detail was fulfilled — even finding a rainbow hearse in sunny Llandudno. Every detail of Coral's funeral was meticulously planned and beautifully executed, creating a vibrant and memorable tribute.”

These moments remind us that farewells don’t have to be sombre, they can be deeply personal, vibrant, and full of love. A true reflection of the life they honour.
