One of the most common questions we’re asked is:

“Is the coffin actually cremated?”

The answer is yes.

The coffin you see at the service is the same one that is carefully and respectfully placed into the cremator. It is never reused.

Cremation is always carried out individually, with strict identification checks at every stage.

We understand why people ask, when something happens out of sight, it’s natural to want reassurance.

We’ve answered more of these questions in our latest blog.

A little refresh behind the scenes… 📸

We’ve recently updated our team photography, and it felt like the right time to share a glimpse of the people who are here to support you, day in and day out.

A huge thank you to Nathan Roberts Photography for capturing these so beautifully. Natural, relaxed, and truly reflective of who we are as a team.

At Tom Owen and Son, we know that when you walk through our doors, it’s not just about a service, it’s about the people you meet. We hope these new images give a sense of the care, warmth and professionalism that sits behind everything we do.

Behind every cremation is a team of people who care deeply about what they do.

These are the individuals who carry out each step with professionalism, precision and compassion even though families may never meet them.

As one local crematorium team shared with us:

“Every person in our care is someone’s family.”

We’re grateful to work alongside people who treat every individual with such respect.

If you’d like to understand more about what happens behind the scenes, we’ve written a gentle guide here:

We’d like to invite you to join us for our next Bereavement Coffee Morning in Colwyn Bay on Wednesday 6th May, from 10am to 12 noon. Join us atBotanical Loungee

Grief can feel isolating at times, but you don’t have to go through it alone. These mornings are simply a chance to sit with others who understand, share if you want to, or just enjoy a cup of coffee in a relaxed and welcoming space.

There’s no pressure to talk, no expectations, just a safe place to be.

Whether your loss is recent or many years ago, you are always welcome.

🤍 A space to talk, or just listen
🤍 Connect with others who understand
🤍 Take a little time for yourself

If you feel it might help, we’d love to see you there.

A farewell doesn’t have to be elaborate to be meaningful 💛

Recently, we arranged a service for a family who chose something simple, personal and completely right for them.

⭐Fifteen people gathered (those who had spoken to him daily as he tended his garden).
⭐No minister.
⭐Just three carefully chosen pieces of music.

A single sheaf of red roses rested on the coffin, striking in its simplicity, full of love.

The total cost was £3,500.

A gentle reminder that a funeral doesn’t have to be expensive to be beautiful.

What mattered most wasn’t scale or formality, but the feeling in the room.
💙Time to pause.
💙Time to reflect.
💙Time to say goodbye in a way that felt true to them.

Afterwards, the family shared these words with us:

“Exemplary, not just professional, but so very kind and sympathetic. Tom Owen and Son have looked after Mom and Dad now and made what could have been complicated and confusing into straightforward and exactly as we wished.”

And that’s always our aim. To take something that can feel overwhelming, and make it feel calm, clear and personal.

There is no one “right” way to say goodbye.
Only the way that feels right for you.

Not every farewell needs to be a full service but every farewell should still feel right 💛

When families choose an unattended cremation with us, it’s never about doing “less.”
It’s about doing what feels most appropriate, with the same care, dignity and attention throughout.

Here’s what that means in practice:

• Your loved one is looked after close by, here in our care
• You will know exactly when the cremation will take place
• We use Colwyn Bay Crematorium, a familiar and trusted local setting
• If you wish, family can be present to carry the coffin into the chapel
• You can choose a piece of music to be played
• Our caring team will guide and support you every step of the way
• There are no hidden costs - everything is clear from the start
• Ashes are returned to you with care and sensitivity

Even without a traditional service, there can still be moments that matter.
A pause. A piece of music. A quiet goodbye.

Because every life deserves to be treated with respect - however you choose to say farewell.

Not every funeral looks the same and neither should the journey.

From leopard print hearses 🐆 to rainbow ones 🌈, or a Land Rover Defender for those who loved the great outdoors 🚙… the vehicle can say so much about the person you’re remembering.

Funeral transport is no longer just tradition it’s another way to reflect personality, passions and a life well lived.

We wrote a blog a few years back exploring the different options available and how something as simple as the vehicle can make a farewell feel more them.

Spring can feel like a season of new beginnings 🌱

But when you’re grieving, it doesn’t always feel that simple.

Sometimes it’s noticing who isn’t there to enjoy it with you.
Sometimes it’s memories that come back when the weather changes.

Be gentle with yourself this season.

What does spring feel like for you this year?

Tom Owen and Son has been part of the Llandudno community for almost a century. Since 1930, our family has been here to support local families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Today, the fourth generation of the Owen family continues that tradition, caring for families with the same values of compassion, dignity and personal service that the business was founded on.

Over the years, much has changed in how funerals are arranged and delivered, but the importance of being local, being available and taking the time to listen has remained exactly the same.

Tom Owen and Son is one of the oldest family-run businesses in Llandudno, still operated by the founding family and something we are incredibly proud of.

Most of all, we remain grateful to the many families who have trusted our family to look after theirs for generations.
