Feeling a little "off" after the holidays? That might actually be a good thing!
The holidays can be a whirlwind of social events, delicious (but maybe not always healthy) food, and disrupted routines. It's no wonder we might feel a bit sluggish, poorly, tired, or even a bit down after all the festivities.
But here's the thing: these post-holiday feelings can actually be a valuable signal. They might be your body's way of saying:
• "It's time to slow down!" The holidays often involve overstimulation and a breakneck pace spending time visiting family, friends and loved ones. Feeling a bit tired could be your body's gentle reminder to rest and recharge.
• "Let's get back to basics!" Indulging in holiday treats can throw our systems off balance. Feeling a bit sluggish could be a nudge to return to healthier eating habits.
• "Time for some self-reflection." The holidays can bring up a range of emotions. Feeling a bit down could be an opportunity to check in with yourself and see how you're truly feeling.
• A gentle reset: Getting sick with common ailments can sometimes force us to slow down and be a reminder to pay attention and prioritise our overall health and wellbeing.
So, instead of fighting these feelings, try to embrace them as an opportunity for:
• Rest and relaxation: Schedule some downtime, whether it's a long soak in the bath, an early night, or simply spending time in nature.
Try diffusing some essential oils that are known to promote relaxation such as Lavender or Chamomile.
• Mindful eating: Focus on nourishing your body with whole foods and hydrating well.
If you are feeling sluggish after indulging, try diffusing some energising citrus essential oils such as Sweet Orange or Lime.
• Self-care: Engage in activities that bring you joy and help you de-stress, such as yoga, meditation, dancing, or spending time with loved ones.
Research has shown that diffusing essential oils such as Rosemary, Bergamot, or Ylang-ylang may help boost your mood.
• Take Time Out: Focus on getting better – and not what’s on your To-Do-List
Try diffusing essential oils known for their antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties such as Peppermint or Eucalyptus
Remember, it's okay to not feel 100% after the holidays. These feelings are temporary. Use them as a gentle reminder to prioritize your well-being and gently guide yourself back to a healthier routine.
