After 15 months of growth, development, and hard work, we’re proud to congratulate our latest Manager in Training graduates.

From their first day in March 2024—bringing a mix of nerves and excitement—this talented group has gone from strength to strength. Their journey concluded with three impactful presentations delivered to a panel of leaders from across Westerleigh Group, demonstrating their confidence, growth, and leadership potential.

👏 During the programme, three internal promotions took place—an incredible reflection of their dedication and drive.

We’re incredibly proud of each and every one of them. Watching their development has been inspiring, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve next.

Our East Lothian Crematorium & Memorial Gardens project continues to take shape, with significant progress made on site last week.

All glazing and windows have now been installed, and major works to the car park, drainage systems, and roofing are complete. Internally, the chapel ceiling has been plastered and eaves detailing finalised, while installation of cremator room equipment is well underway. The boundary wall and fencing are progressing well, and SPEN works have been completed with the new meter now fitted.

As we move into the next phase, work is continuing on the stone façade at the main entrance, the reception porch is taking form, and pathways through the garden areas are being laid. The final internal finishes are also advancing across several rooms.

We’re incredibly proud of the care and attention going into every aspect of this build. Once complete, East Lothian Crematorium will provide a peaceful, thoughtfully designed space for the local community for many years to come.

Thank you to City Gate Construction and all our partners for their continued hard work and dedication.

Work continues to progress steadily on the East Lothian Crematorium project, being delivered by City Gate Construction.

This week saw continued stonework on the main entrance, further development of the chapel ceiling, and roofing works including tiling, leadwork, and flat roof membrane installation. Windows and glazing are being installed, plastering has begun in key internal areas, and work on the floral tribute walkway is well underway. The coffin store roof has now been completed, and boundary wall construction using reclaimed stone is progressing.

Looking ahead, next week will focus on completing the stone facade around the entrance, building the reception porch, advancing roofing and drainage work, and continuing with internal finishes. Equipment for the cremator room is due to arrive, and fencing work along the boundary lines will continue.

Thank you to everyone on-site for the continued hard work and dedication as we move closer to completion.

Who doesn’t enjoy ticking things off the to-do list?

City Gate Construction Ltd at East Lothian Crematorium certainly made great progress this week, with several key tasks now complete:

· Stonework to both West and East elevations
· Roofing works
· Compressed gravel paths to the northeast elevation
· Wet verge installation

There’s still plenty to do ahead of opening later this year, but it's fantastic to see momentum building as we move closer to completion.

We’ll continue sharing updates as we reach more milestones.

Steady progress continues at East Lothian Crematorium as we approach the final stages of construction.

Recent works have included installation of glazing and windows, decoration throughout key areas, and continued work on roofing, pathways, and car park surfacing. We're also advancing on mechanical and electrical installations, including lighting protection and fire alarm containment.

Looking ahead, the team will be completing stone facades, installing single membrane roofing, and continuing hard landscaping and infrastructure works across the site.

Great effort from everyone involved and to City Gate Construction Ltd for their continued hard work.

Em Melrose yourcelebrant.life

Em lost both parents in 2019. Originally from Bath, she knew who to engage with, sadly because she had experienced the loss of many family members in recent years.

Em has lived in Llanelli for over 20 years and in 2021, faced the reality of planning her husband Don’s service. He walked courageously with throat cancer for almost three years and died at 50. She learned a lot about resilience, courage, compassion.

Em says. ‘It was an honour to walk alongside him in his final chapter of life. I imagined Don’s service, how it would feel and how I would cope many times over and I knew that surrounding myself with people I trusted was important. My experience of services I’d attended were more traditional in format than Don would’ve wanted.

Where I would find someone who understood what I wanted to create for him, to honour his life and hope for our future?’

Em shared ‘I was so grateful to connect with Dinah Liversidge, and together we crafted a beautiful service that even today people talk about. Dinah inspired me to train to become an Independent Funeral Celebrant, in June 2023 I attended her Celebrant Coaching and Training Academy , proud to have achieved a distinction and am a member of the Association of Independent Celebrants.’

For Em, establishing trust with our local funeral directors and the team at Llanelli Crematorium is an imperative for her ensuring that seamless communication eases the burden that families may feel at such a tough time. ‘I needed to feel a genuine connection with both the team who would take care of Don’s body until it was laid to rest and have trust in the person would lead his service’ and she commits to do the same for each family she support.

Em shares, ‘The truth for us all is that we are born and we die, telling the unique story of what happens between these two events, of your loved one’s life is my privilege and honour. I’m here to support families creating a safe space to celebrate their life. ‘From darkness comes light; I’ll walk beside you to listen, understand and support you in the early days of your grief.’

With love and gratitude, Em x

🔦Todays Spotlight 🔦

My name is Janine Hailey and I live locally in Pontarddulais with my husband Dorian and my daughter Rhian. I am really proud that I have been supporting local families now since 2016 as a Funeral Celebrant, working alongside the many Funeral Directors within our community.
People have always been at the very heart of my working life; my passion is always to do my best for people – and I am so grateful that as a Funeral Celebrant I get to do a job that I am passionate about, and absolutely love.
Each service that I officiate is individually written, and is full of the precious memories that truly reflect, and honour the person whom you are remembering. I promise you that the service for your loved one will be a dignified and fitting tribute, focusing on their own journey through life that made them so special and unique.
Getting a message from my families I support like this truly means the absolute world to me:
“There are no words to thank you enough. It was such a heartbreaking day, but beautiful at the same time. Everyone keeps on telling me how beautiful the service was and that is thanks to you. You are an amazing lady, you made one of the hardest days I’ve experienced a beautiful day. I know mum would have loved it.”
I feel so privileged to work alongside all of the amazing staff at Llanelli Crematorium, and was so honoured to be the first to officiate a Celebration of Life Service on the day the Crematorium re-opened after their recent incredible refurbishment. (Pictured below).
If I can help and support you and your family in any way, please do get in touch.

Todays spotlight 🔦

Hi, I’m Sara, an experienced and compassionate funeral celebrant, working closely with local funeral directors to create personal, meaningful services that truly reflect the lives of those being remembered. I take great care in listening to each family’s stories, memories, and wishes so I can craft a ceremony that honours the individual and captures what made them unique.

My calm, approachable nature helps families feel supported during one of the most difficult times in their lives. Whether it’s a traditional farewell or something a little more personal, I make sure every detail is thoughtful, respectful, and heartfelt. I believe everyone deserves a goodbye that feels right for them and I’m proud to help families say it with warmth and dignity.

New Voile curtain - The final refurb piece inside the chapel was completed this morning.

Did you know we offer a choice of curtain options to suit every family?

You can opt for the curtains to be fully closed, just the voile curtain to be closed or fully open, another of the uniquely personal service choices you can discuss with your funeral directors when making service arrangements ❤️

Next up in the spotlight 🔦

Helen Chesterman Celebrant, Creative, Compassionate, Ceremonies.

Based in Swansea I am a professional, fully trained and qualified celebrant. Collaborating with families at a time of loss requires compassion and understanding. I too have been through grief, I have experienced the loss of both family and friends. Grief is not the same for everyone, I understand it is personal to you and I understand how difficult this time is.

As a funeral celebrant I recognise there are many organisations involved in helping families arrange the service to honour the memory of your loved one in the most memorable and appropriate way. Whilst celebrants are independent, I see myself as part of the team working with your funeral director, and chosen venue and others to ensure everything runs seamlessly. I visit you to discuss your wishes for a ceremony and eulogy that captures who your loved one was, what they mean to you and others so that we can tell their story in the way they would want it told. Where other organisations are involved, for example for Military Honours at funerals or for service personnel from Fire, Police, or Ambulance etc., I work closely with those involved to ensure all aspects of honouring your loved one is covered appropriately.
