I woke up at 1.00am and the nearly full moon was shining so fully in a clear sky. As we look from our planet the planets are in the sidereal zodiac, which the Vedic (Indian) astrology uses. So in the Vedic reading the moon is in Leo and appearing very close to the ‘heart of the lion’ star, Regulus.
This is a special star in my chart, so I wrapped up warm and spent time in the garden absorbing the rays of the moon and the meaning of this placement and Regulus itself. I also laid out my crystals in the moonlight on windowsills, as this is one of the gentlest ways to charge them.
In astrology as in nature, the moon controls a lot of what goes on in the fluids of our bodies. As women, this is much more pronounced, with our menstrual cycles and with our wombs and breasts. Understanding more about the placement of the moon in our birth charts helps us to support us in our health and the challenges we may face with issues in these areas. Having breast cancer has taught me more about having a very challenged moon in my own birth chart. These aren’t easy aspects to live with, as difficulties with conception, endometriosis and miscarriage can be part of this picture. As they have been for me.
But there are ways to balance, support and heal with the Moon. Life with electricity and easy lighting has taken us further and further away from naturally encountering the moon’s powerful and beneficial light. I encourage you to spend time with the moon, and sit or lie with the moonlight on you (it doesn’t have to be outside!). The moon also tells us much about our own mothers and our relationship with them, and how we might also be as a mother or as a mother figure, our strengths and areas we may need more support with.
