This one is absolutely NOT TRUE! Touch is incredibly important to everything for everything we do; from the moment we’re born to the moment we pass. Studies show that babies who are regularly held and touched have increased immune function, start walking and crawling sooner, and cry less. However, this doesn’t stop as we age.

Another fantastic study (which I’ll admit, didn’t sound like much fun) had participants lay in an fMRI machine listening to painful blasts of white noise. Not for me thanks, but I’m glad they did it! The study found that, unsurprisingly, the white noise caused areas associated with stress and threat to activate. However, this was ameliorated by having someone they trusted stroke their arm.

Touch signals to our bodies that we are safe, calms cardiovascular stress, activates our vagus nerve, and causes oxytocin to be released throughout our bodies, to mention just a few things! So, it’s not just for the massage table!

Trust me this one is true. Studies have found that massage therapy is beneficial for insomnia related stress which in turn reduces fatigue and improves the quality of sleep.

Massage promotes the body’s production of serotonin; an essential amino acid that promotes healing provides pain relief and is known to reduce depression and regulate anxiety. Serotonin is also essential for the production of melatonin. Melatonin is often referred to as the sleep hormone and is a central part of the body's circadian rhythm which regulates our sleep-wake cycle.

If you are suffering from insomnia or disturbed sleep then massage therapy could really help you.

A great study on this topic is ‘Recent Advances in Massage Therapy - A Review’, by S.L. Liu, 2015.

What Does The Vagus Nerve Do? Discover How To Naturally Stimulate The “Communication Superhighway” Linking The Conscious & Unconscious https://buff.ly/2nuLW7q

Do you know what the Vagus Nerve is and what it does?

THE VAGUS NERVE⠀
A seemingly never-ending branching nerve that connects most of our major organs to our brain 🧠.⠀
⠀⠀
It’s the longest cranial nerve in our body, one for the right side and one for the left. And is largely responsible for the connection for its role as a mediator between thinking and feeling, you know our “gut feeling.”⠀
⠀⠀
The vagus nerve is the “queen” of the parasympathetic nervous system. The “rest and digest” or the nerve. So the more we do things to activate the nerve (like deep ), the most we combat the effects of its opposer, the sympathetic nervous system - the “fight or flight”, rushing around, have to do something, releasing one.⠀
⠀⠀
A few other functions of the vagus nerve, just to name a few:⠀
▪️slows your heart rate and respiration.⠀
▪️lowers blood pressure.⠀
▪️helps with calmness and relaxation.⠀
▪️controls involuntary muscles in the digestive system, therefore, aiding digestion.⠀
▪️taste sensation.⠀
▪️movement function for the muscles in the neck responsible for swallowing and speech.⠀
▪️gut-brain communication.⠀
▪️reduces inflammation.⠀

Thanks - just beautiful!
