Who here loves a courgette?
They are so versatile, you can eat them raw or cooked in a variety of ways. What do you do with yours? 💙🌱
Courgettes or Zucchinis and their flowers are an amazing edible duo. Zucchini flowers carry a lot of the same health benefits as the squash itself!
Zucchinis are essentially baby marrows and technically is considered a fruit (seeds on the inside). As such, it is eaten immaturely or before it grows too big.
As a summer fruit it has a high water content to help hydrate and is rich in vitamin A which is supportive of eye health.
It is incredibly versatile and can be eaten raw (in salads) or cooked.

My name is Gemma Thomson. I was born in Bangor, North Wales but have lived in London and Leamington Spa returning to North Wales in 2014. I am a qualified Nutritional therapist registered with BANT (The British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine) and the CNHC (The Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council). I also love animals, music, theatre and reading books.
My awareness of the importance of good nutrition started many years ago when a locum GP that I had never seen before, suggested I consider removing dairy from my diet to help eradicate the eczema that had worked its way up both my arms and all over my back. It had appeared about 2 years earlier and nothing, no creams, steroids or medications were helping. I was gobsmacked when within 4 weeks of completely removing milk, cheese (that was hard!), butter and anything else that had any form of dairy in it…..the eczema had completely gone!!!
This got me thinking about how, what we put into our bodies has an effect on how it functions. The food we eat is out fuel and is fundamental to powering all the processes in the body that effect not only the physical presentation but also how we think, feel and act. We know that a car has specific needs in order to run properly; diesel, water, oil, brake fluid etc. etc. But we wouldn’t put fairy liquid in the washer tank or butter in the oil tank….we know what would happen if we did that so why do we do it to ourselves and our bodies???
I decided to enrol on the 3 year Naturopathic Nutrition Diploma course at CNM (The College of Naturopathic Medicine) in Manchester and the rest is history. I now have a passion to help people improve their lives by supporting them to reach optimal health. Sometimes it is the simple changes to your diet and lifestyle that can have such a big impact on how you feel day to day. Many of us walk through life, trying to ignore the daily headaches or the cramping you get after every meal, which can often be resolved with simple tweaks and additions to your routine.
I work holistically looking at the body and mind as a whole and address any imbalances in the body to get to the root cause of what may be causing you uncomfortable symptoms such as bloating, constipation, fatigue, skin issues, headaches, recurrent infections, anxiety and mood swings, weight gain/loss, and pain to name a few, as well as supporting chronic illness. I always try to address the diet in the first instance where possible but I may also recommend supplements or further testing where necessary.
The advice I give will be very specific to you and what you are trying to achieve. It will focus on supporting the processes in the body that may have become tired over time by adding in specific nutrients that may be deficient, overall macro and micronutrient balance as well as lifestyle advice that will work for you and your personal circumstances. I will not only help you with understanding WHAT you need to do to improve your health, but give you practical solutions on HOW you can implement that into your busy life to ensure you are seeing the results you want.
Everything I suggest is scientifically proven and research backed. I have had some great success from my past clients and have completely turned their lives around. Our bodies are amazing and we have the power to heal ourselves if we give it the right fuel. There is so much more to diet than weightloss.
