Book recommendation!

I have just finished re-reading this book after recommending it to a client.

For anyone who struggles to take care of their home, or their bodies, for whatever reason, health issues, low mood, overwhelm, parenting, general busyness... and then feel bad about themselves for not keeping on top of things, this book is an absolute gem.

I first came across it when my babies were tiny and I really did feel like I was drowing. Re-reading feels so heartwarming. Written in simple language, kept deliberately short, it just hits the spot. Laundry is morally neutral. The cleanliness of you car has no relationship to your worth as a person. You deserve rest and to enjoy your space, no matter how organised your cupboards are.

Telling a child to “calm down” does not teach them how to calm down.

Young children are not born knowing how to manage anger, frustration, fear, or overwhelm. Their brains are still developing. When emotions become too big, the thinking part of the brain goes offline. In that moment, the child cannot reason, listen, or control their behaviour.

What helps is a calm adult.

When an adult stays steady, speaks gently, and helps the child name what they feel, the child’s nervous system begins to settle. This process is called co-regulation. It is how children gradually learn self-regulation, emotional control, and coping skills.

Over time, children internalise these calm responses. The words we use, the patience we show, and the safety we provide slowly become the child’s own inner voice.

Children do not learn emotional regulation from fear, pressure, or punishment.

They learn it from connection, safety, and calm adults.

Celebrating small wins! I received my BACP accreditation today!

The BACP is one of the main governing bodies for counselling and psychotherapy in the UK, ensuring that training and practice meets certain standards. I've been a registered member since I qualified, and accreditation is the next step.

I knew it was going to be a hefty project, and it really did challenge me! The process involved deeply reflecting on not just how I work - how I integrate different training and approaches - but why I work that way. How do I decide with each individual what would be most helpful? How do I navigate ethical dilemmas, safeguarding issues, or my own biases?

It was a significant piece of work that took me months to reflect on and somehow put into words! But what a valuable process for really taking time to think about how we work as practitioners.

Very much relieved to have it complete and ready for the next project! 😊

❤️Therapist friends❤️

I’m evolving the way I’m working and wanted to share something new.

Alongside my counselling and psychotherapy practice (which continues as usual), I’m beginning to offer a more body-focused space specifically for therapists, healers, and bodyworkers who want to explore their own process through the body.

This work includes somatic-based dialogue and, for in-person sessions, hands-on Shiatsu-based bodywork. It’s a deeper, more spacious format designed for practitioners who are interested in working with sensation, emotion, and the body as part of their therapeutic process.

I’ve created a new page dedicated to this work. If you’re a therapist or holistic practitioner and this resonates with you, you’re very welcome to follow me there as well.

There is so much more to grief than crying.

Grief is complex, changing and incredibly personal. There can be so much happening when we're grieving, a lot of which goes unseen.
