Anglesey, Cardiff, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Neath, Port Talbot, Swansea, Wrexham. Gig Buddies Cymru is a befriending scheme that matches people with a learning disability in Wales* with a volunteer who shares the same interests, so they can enjoy social activities together.

*In South Wales we cover Bridgend, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda Cynon Taf, and Vale of Glamorgan. In No

We would like to thank Disability Arts Cymru / Celfyddydau Anabledd Cymru - particularly Alan Whitfield, their Visual Arts Officer - for inviting us to attend the opening of Effaith, the Disability Arts Cymru National Touring Exhibition at Tŷ Pawb. Alan is also one of our Gig Buddy volunteers (matched with Gig Buddies North Wales participant, Mark). Here are some photos taken at the Effaith exhibition by our Gig Buddies North Wales Project Coordinator, John.

Effaith is an exhibition showcasing disabled perspectives on one of the most urgent issues of our time: the climate crisis. Following an open call, selected Disabled, Deaf and Neurodivergent artists have responded to themes of nature, landscape and climate justice through the lens of disability. From February 2026 to March 2027, Effaith will tour across Wales to five leading galleries: Galeri in Caernarfon; Tŷ Pawb, Wrexham; g39 Cardiff; The Riverfront, Newport; and Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Aberystwyth.

Jaco and Stephen met at one of our Speed Mates events. For their first outing as buddies, they went to Discobowl to play bowling, laser tag and Arcade games. Since then, they’ve been out for food, more gaming, and to the theatre to see Hijinx Theatre's "Meet Fred" show.

Here they are on a their most recent meet up to Pedal Power Cardiff - soaking up the beautiful weather and signs of Spring in Bute Park. They enjoyed it so much they’ve signed up as members!

Mackenzie and Bianca met on a Gig Buddies night out to Porter's Cardiff. They bonded over their love of Taylor Swift and when chatting discovered they’d both dressed up as her for Halloween before!! Unfortunately we don’t those photos, but here they are enjoying a day out to The Royal Mint.
