This week support workers, Anna Chaston and Grace Jenkins, completed “Sighted Guide” training to help support one of our younger clients. It was facilitated by Kate Reynolds, the Habilitation Specialist at Guide Dogs Wales.

Anna and Grace both felt it was extremely useful and informative. They had the opportunity to try out various glasses that demonstrated how various eye conditions affect sight as well as learning how to correctly support someone with a sight impairment, both with and without the use of a cane.

Thank you, Kate!

Abbi started volunteering one session a week at Dinas Powys Library in October 2022. Initially she started sorting and tidying the children’s area of the library. Abbi thoroughly enjoyed her time at the library, so further opportunities were explored by her Case Manager Emily Hillier

Currently Abbi is attending twice a week. Both in the library and in the café area. The café area is a busy local hub where Abbi is having the opportunity to learn new skills whilst meeting new people.

Phil Gauci, Library Support Officer recognised how committed and keen Abbi was to learn in the library area and suggested she learn further aspects of how the library runs and serving customers. Abbi was delighted to be asked to do this, and she has eagerly been learning the computer skills needed to help people.

Abbi has support four days a week but her two library days are her favourite!

This week we had the pleasure of visiting Headway Cardiff & South East Wales ' Hawthorn Group, which we are incredibly proud to be sponsoring this year.

It was fantastic to see the amazing hive of activity in the centre, with Rubicon Dance in attendance delivering a workshop, and a tie-die craft session also in full swing!

It was wonderful to catch up with all the staff, volunteers and service users and get to see the amazing work that goes on and the hugely valuable support that the charity offers to people who have been affected by an acquired brain injury.

Thank you to Rebecca Pearce and all the team for allowing us to gate crash!
