Our St John Ambulance Cymru volunteers are busy supporting The Long Course Weekend in Pembrokeshire!

We have 5 Ambulance Crews, fully equipped Medical Centre, finish line team and an incident commanders working across the course to keep everyone safe, just in case! 🚑

The music season has well and truly begun at the Principality Stadium with the visits of Chris Brown and Lana Del Rey over the past week representing the first of 8 concerts taking place over a busy 6 week period. Congratulations to Professor Kevin Davies, who officially begins his new role as Registrar for the Priory for Wales today - St John's Day. Llongyfarchiadau!

Today is St John's Day, a special date in our calendar, which this year will also mark the appointment of Professor Kevin Davies MBE RRC KStJ DL PhD MA RN, as the new Registrar for the Priory for Wales. This follows his promotion to Knight of Grace (KStJ) at the annual Investiture earlier this month. Llongyfarchiadau!

The role will help bring all the different aspects of the Priory together and he will support the Prior, Chancellor and Bailiff of St Davids in promoting the Order of St John.

Prior for Wales, Paul Griffiths, OBE KStJ JP DL, said: "I am delighted that Professor Kevin Davies will become our new Registrar for the Priory for Wales. He showed great skill and diplomacy in delivering this type of role when we hosted Grand Council last year. His extensive experience and rich background will significantly help the Priory progress to support the charity, in ceremonies, fundraising and many other areas of our work."

Professor Davies is Emeritus Professor of Nursing and Disaster Healthcare at the University of South Wales, was formerly Vice Chair and Non-Executive Director of the Welsh Ambulance Service University NHS Trust. He spent six years as Independent Trustee of St John Ambulance Cymru, completing his tenure in June 2023, also leading the delivery of Grand Council when it was held in Wales in 2024. He has a decade of experience as a member of the medical panel at the HALO Trust and has advised at government level in the UK, USA, Japan and Hong Kong, where he was an Honorary Fellow.

An emergency trained nurse and nurse educator, he has worked in Bosnia, Kenya, Kosovo, Iraq, Afghanistan, Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh, Laos (Lao PDR), Ivory Coast, Japan, South Korea, Ukraine and Hong Kong.

He was appointed a Member of the Royal Red Cross 1st Class 1997, MBE in 2012 and OStJ in 2019, promoted to KStJ in 2025. He is Deputy Lieutenant for South Glamorgan, Colonel Commandant QARANC May 2020 to May 2025 and Queens Honorary Nurse 2009-2012.

A huge thanks to the who were at the Principality Stadium for the Chris Brown concert last night fans needed help, especially given the hot conditions.

This was the first of eight concerts at the stadium over the next 6 weeks, so if you're heading to see Oasis, Lana Del Rey, Stereophonics, Kendrick Lamar and SZA or Catfish and the Bottlemen, keep an eye our for our dedicated people who will be there to help.

They'll also continue to be present and smaller-scale events in communities across the country, for which we can't thank them enough. Diolch o galon!

Llongyfarchiadau! Congratulations!

We are delighted to announce that following interview Mr Stephen Bowles has been appointed as Director of Ceremonies for the Priory for Wales. Mr Bowles will take over from current Director of Ceremonies, Mr John Petrie on St John’s Day (24th June 2025). The appointment is for an initial three-year period.

Stephen has been a volunteer with St John Ambulance Cymru for ten years and has held the positions of Operational Member and County HR Manager within Cardiff and the Vale and is currently the National Muster Party Lead.

The Prior for Wales, Paul Griffiths OBE KStJ DL, said “I am delighted to appoint Stephen to the role of Director of Ceremonies. It is an exciting time as we look to introduce Priory Volunteer Support Teams within each region, and Stephen will play a pivotal role in developing this new structure. His background and experience gained as a Regimental Sergeant Major in the British Army will be a great asset to our Priory.

“I would also like to record our thanks and appreciation to John Petrie for his contribution to the Priory for Wales for the past eight years. He has led the Ceremonial Team with great professionalism and commitment to the role. We wish him well for the future.”
