What have you tried?
One of the questions I ask parents is about what they have tried before coming to me. Often people have tried it all, been to their health visitor, followed advice from baby group friends and online information.
During our consultation we focus on education and explaining about sleep using an evidence based approach. When you are exhausted I want to be fair on you and your family.

Little ones wake 30 -45 minutes after going down to sleep typically due to a sleep association.
What is a sleep association?
This means whatever they had to get to sleep is no longer there such as the car moving/ cuddles with mum/ breastfeeding or rocking.
There are also positive sleep associations such as white noise or a dark room.
If you are happy to continue contact naps/ breastfeeding to sleep there is no wrong answer.

I get it. I remember feeling such a failure. I was expecting sleep to be hard but I just couldn't figure out how to make thinks better. I had gone to all the classes. I had breastfed on demand, read all the articles in the night hoping for an answer.

As parents we are all doing our best. Even with all the information when sleep deprived its really difficult to make changes.

I needed a clear written down plan backed with evidence and individual to me and my little one.

You are doing your best.

Dreading bedtime ? I used find it very difficult. At its best it would take over an hour and on a bad night much longer....

Dreading bedtime ? I used find it very difficult. At its best it would take over an hour and on a bad night much longer. I couldn't sleep as I was so upset or frazzled after bedtime and woke up tired dreading the next bedtime.

Supporting small businesses and charities is very close to my heart.

💨storms are scary and can impact on family life💥
Stress can impact on sleep even on a low level.
Some suggestions:
💬Think about all the overheard conversations and news about the danger factor of the storm. Children can understand the emotion but not the facts sometimes, so make sure to check with them.
🤦‍♀️Routine is out of the window- nowhere is open and it's not safe to go outside. Try and use your own house routine to ground the day. Make a set lunch time and divide the day into manageable chunks.
Stick to your usual bedtime routine and offer extra reassurance through hugs and 1 on 1 time.
💢At bedtime or naptime whitenoise is a gamechanger. It ensures those stormy creaks and noises are subdued making it less stressful at night and less chance of waking due to unpredictable noises.
