In a world that's lost its balance, find balance in your own version of reality 💚

Yes the world might be nuts.
The UK may be rolypolying down the Road to Hell faster than you can say "haduuuuken".
Things are definitely uncertain and scary right now.

But really, standing on one leg and doing things really does centre the mind.
Bringing your awareness back to your breath is a wonderful reminder of what's important.

Breathing. Living. Being present.

It's important during times like these to stay aware and present, to remind yourself you are more than the strange dystopia being created around us and you definitely do not have to be part of "the system" if every cell in your being is rejecting it.

Focus on building a peaceful environment, both around you and within. And also, stand on one leg 💚

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Tonight, we have Stretch and Relax Yoga, where we stretch areas of habitual tension within the body, as well as introducing mudra's (hand gestures) and breathing techniques (pranayama) that you can use day to day to help balance the body and maintain healthy stress levels.

Stress is the cause of all disease! So finding a way to release stress is very important!

Most weeks, we open the class with Alternate Nostril Breathing. It's a type of Pranayama, that aims to balance the right (active, heat, sun) side of the body with the left (passive, cool, moon) side.
You can check which side of the body is most active by closing your eyes and placing your hand under your nose. Exhale gently through your nose onto your hand and you will notice one side is stronger than than other. Our bodies naturally alternate through the day to maintain balance. But obviously, sometimes life can send our natural rhythm off and one side can become more dominant
If you are in a stressful situation you will notice the right side more active, if you are feeling super chill or even sleepy, you'll notice the left.

To practice alternate nostril breathing, come to a comfortable upright seated position. If its uncomfortable to sit upright, pop a cushion under your hip.

Take a moment to connect with your breath.

When you feel ready, take the right hand, and place your ring and middle finger on your third eye centre, and use the thumb and little finger to cover and uncover your nostrils.

Take a long, slow inhale through the right nostril, filling up as much as you can with air. Pause, and then exhale fully. Pause at the bottom of the exhale, and then swap to do the same on the other side.

Repeat for 10 or more breaths, pausing between breaths. The longer you do this pranayama the more balanced you will feel!!

You can also use this technique to heighten one side or the other e.g. if you are mega tired, repeat the inhales and exhales in the right nostril only to promote the "active" side, and vice versa if you're feeling to energetic or stressed and need to relax.

It's International Yoga Day today 🧘‍♀️
It's also Summer Solstice ☀️

This is a picture that popped up on my memories today and brought a tear to my eye! My little dog, Chunk, is no longer with us 💔 today marks the 8 year anniversary of the death if my Dad too, so the sad vibes are in full force!

For sure it's a sad day, but its also a day full of light. A reminder we are all made up of exploded stars. The suns of distant galaxies. Even the brightest of lights go out eventually, but they transform into something new 💚 energy doesn't die!! Pretty magic isn't it really??

We will be honouring the sun tonight in a lovely Slow Flow, 18.00-19.00 UK time. Let me know if you'd like to join us?? And honour the sunshine that burns in all of us!

It's been a while since I posted some yoga spam!!
Just finished teaching my class at David Lloyd, the studio is such a beautiful and relaxing place 💚 so relaxing infact, that a few people fell asleep during relaxation!!!

I dunno about anyone else, but I always feel almost honoured that people feel so relaxed in my presence they can drift off like that 💚

Lots of people skip relaxation. I used to! I used to find staying still so frustrating! It was the worst part of part of class for me. It might seem boring and almost pointless for some people, but it's actually really important part of the class!
We spend the class switching our muscles on, so relaxation is important to allow the muscles to switch off. To allow the body to return to equilibrium, to allow the mind to switch off...

If you manage to get a nap in, even better!!!

Good Morning beautiful people 💚

I'm just on my way to cover a Pilates Class at David Lloyd Cardiff (10.00-10.45 if you're a member come on down!!!)

Thinking about the class I taught last night.
Sometimes I have these huge bursts of inspiration that leads to a class I feel really very proud of 💚 last night was one of those moments!

I decided to teach a class all about creating gratitude, being consciously aware of our thoughts and creating a way to consciously switch a thought process onto something productive and/or positive.

Awareness is Key 💚
When you are AWARE of your thoughts, you can CONSCIOUSLY make an effort to change them 💚

For sure, life IS NOT about being positive all the time. It's often during the dark times times learn so much about ourselves or find something we have been searching for. The dark times serve a purpose, as do our dark parts or shadow selves.
But during dark times, we can for sure bring ourselves to a place of Gratitude 💚

I have "Gratitude Magnets". For me, it's people. I think of my friends and family, I imagine them smiling and think of how they make me feel, and I instantly get a burst of positive emotion, a tingly warm feeling like my chest, and even though my world might be falling apart I'm reminded of all the things I'm lucky to have.
I think of my "Gratitude Magnets", and as I do this I imagine I'm breathing in and out through my heart. Any sensations i feel in my heart space are magnified, I feel like its a great way to switch up these difficult moments and create something that feels a little bit better.

Gratitude and Positivity aren't the same thing. Positivity can sometimes be a bit toxic. Sometimes the bad times are really valuable, sometimes we need to take time to sit with the emotions and process what's going on, release the negative emotions holding us back, but it's important to recognise when holding the emotion is self sabotage!

Processing and dwelling are very close to one another!

Maybe take some time out today to think of your Gratitude Magnets. It can be a person, a place you love, your pet, a song. ANYTHING that makes you feel WONDERFUL 💚 focus on them/it and what it is about them/it make you feel so lovely, take a few breaths in amd out of your heart and focus on the sensations you feel in your body.

You deserve the very best life has to offer! Gratitude opens you to receiving receiving life you deserve 💚

Hey beautiful people 💚

I'm back from a lovely relaxing week in Greece 💚

I am covering a Pilates class tonight at for the lovely Mary, so I won't won't teaching my Zoom classes this evening!

Tomorrow night is Stretch and Relax Yoga on Zoom, 19.30-20.30 💚

We will look at breathing techniques and Mudras to help relax the nervous system as well as calm the mind, and stretches to help release tension and toxins from the muscles to leave you feeling lovely and relaxed. The perfect hump day treat!

From next week everything will be back to normal 💚

Hey lovely people 💚

Tonight we have Stretch and Relax Yoga, it's exactly what it says on the tin, and runs from 19.15-20.30 every Wednesday on Zoom 💚

Really enjoyed teaching on Zoom last night! My first Tuesday Evening Zoom 💚

It took me a long time to reach the decision to take my classes fully online. It was a big risk! But if truth be told, I was finding it emotionally exhausting and wasn't really getting anything to show for my efforts.

For a long while, I've wanted to get more fitness qualifications to go alongside my yoga and pilates qualifications. I LOVE training and fitness in general (it was initially my plan upon getting my pilates qualification to go down the fitness route, but I chose a more holistic route instead.) More strings for my bow, more things to learn! I needed to earn the money to pay for the things I wanted to achieve and felt like I was a bit stuck financially. Prices rising on absolutley everything and my classes not going as well as I was so sure they would 💔 I started to feel defeated. Stress and fear will sap you of all your energy, and I was feeling well and truly sapped.

I took the risk. I moved my classes online. And I feel like I have re-aligned with myself again! My energy is high, I'm excited about the future again, I feel like I'm back in a place of manifesting my dreams into a reality 💚

I put the feelers out for a Personal Trainer course, reached out to the class co-ordinator at David Lloyd seeing as I teach there already and hey presto... the courses run, i dont have to resit my Anatomy and Physiology exam, i will be working more at the club after it and I can get qualified there for FREE! 🤯

BOOM!

Manifestation makes me believe in Magic.
It is magic!
Once upon a time being a pilates and yoga instructor was nothing but a dream! I had no clue how I would afford the courses or how I would achieve it. I spent time daydreaming and imagining myself teaching, imagining myself holding the certificates. I felt the excitement in my heart of how how was going to feel achieving this dream!
Instead of focusing on "how", which just brought negative thoughts like "I can't afford it", I focused on getting it. I focused on having it. I got excited like I already had it.
You don't always need to know "how"! Just that you will! When the time is right, it will come. Have faith in that fact 💚

Watch this space, more qualifications mean more classes and more of something for everyone 💚

Yoga Day woohoo!!

I took a week off but it feels like it's been such a long time 😂
Tonight is our first lot of Zoom classes and actually really excited for the change!

Change can be scary, but really it's the only one thing in life we can really count on happening!
And once you make peace with this ever changing life we are in, you realise change is your best friend 💚

Are you a Warrior?
Or a Worrier?
🤔

Most of our anxieties and fears literally do not exist.
The space between what is happening and what actually WILL happen is huge, and our minds love to create eccentric possibilities that keep our brains occupied.

Our brains control everything in our bodies. The function of every organ, every gland, every muscle, all subconsciously controlled by our think box. It's pretty incredible really!

The downside to having an incredibly complex bio-super computer running the show, is that they do not know how to stop. As soon as we close our eyes and focus on "nothing", our brains go into a panic.

They want our attention!
And what's the easiest way to get our attention?
Pulling up every single mistake, heartache, betrayal. Our brains emotional memory centre is the first to kick in. Its the easiest way to get our attention, the negative habitual subconscious monologue kicks in, our brains know this works day to day to hijack our thoughts.
It's lazy, it's easy, it works.

If you manage to focus through the negative tirade of thoughts, your brain will try to pull you out in a different way.
Shopping lists, that super important thing you forgot to do last week. Sounds in the room, anticipated interruptions. Our brains will keep spamming us until it has our attention back.

It's not so much a case of "clearing your mind" or "not thinking". It's a case of learning to consciously shift your focus and attention away from invasive, and often damaging thought processes. It's one of the most valuable things you can learn to do.

Think about how much energy you literally waste worrying about things you can't control, or things that happened in the past or haven't happened yet, things that DONT EVEN EXIST!!! 🤯

You deserve to feel at peace.
If you'd like to begin your journey towards a peaceful mind, a relaxed body, more control of your thoughts and ultimately your whole life, a regular yoga practice is the best place to start!

Hey wonderful people!

I'm taking a much deserved week off before a cheeky relaunch!

I decided to take all my classes online, I had a pretty devastating decline in numbers after the unfair and unnecessary price hike of fuel, which has obviously impacted me a lot too!!!

The good news is, now everyone and anyone can get involved in my classes, any and everywhere in the world 💚

With the cost of living and anxiety levels spiraling out of control, I'm happy to offer classes on a donation basis; if you are skint and suffering I'd love you to come to my classes and pay what you can, when you can 💚
Yoga is a gift, and one I am so happy to be able to give away!
