Mid Argyll Living Well Network

Mid Argyll Living Well Network We are here to ensure that the people of Mid Argyll have the opportunity to be as healthy as possible.

Good health and wellbeing is at the heart of a vibrant Mid Argyll. This website will help you to find out what health activities are happening. Everyone in Argyll and Bute has the right to lead the healthiest and safest life possible. Whether that means being empowered to make healthier lifestyle choices; being able to access opportunities and services for health and wellbeing locally; or having t

he skills and resources to manage your own health, health improvement is in everyone’s best interest. The following values and principles underpin how health improvement is delivered: •Empowering •Sustaining •Participative •Equitable •Evidence based •Well planned •Effective Where health improvement happens: Health improvement can happen anywhere and at any stage of life, for example, early years, young people, adults and older people, and can take place in a variety of settings and communities, such as: •NHS premises •Schools •The workplace •Geographical communities •Communities of interest, such as social clubs, churches etc. What we will do: Current thinking around health improvement suggests that healthy people arise from healthy communities. Interventions work best if they are done with local communities and they build on assets and resources already present in these communities. This is known as “salutogenesis” or an “assets-based approach” and the Living Well Partnership and strategy favours this model. It involves engaging local communities in finding out what health issues matter to them and responding to what they want. It also involves breaking down boundaries and not looking at topics such as smoking or harmful drinking in isolation from other factors in health, such as poverty, employment status, educational attainment. We have meetings once a quarter usually in a local venue, if you wish to join online you can. We share information provide a networking opportunity and try to connect people in our communities with relevant support agencies. Please feel free to share our post and let’s see if we can facilitate these values better in Mid Argyll and its surrounding areas. If you would like to be part of the Network, give us a like and share and send us an
email livingwell@mayds.org.uk
We can add you on to our mailing list and you will be notified about relevant information, NHS updates, grant funding, local initiatives, new services in Mid Argyll.

Stay safe on the water

Stay safe on the water

Canoeing and kayaking are both popular recreational and competitive sports and can offer adventure, exercise, and fun, as well as a chance to explore nature and enjoy beautiful scenery.

Canoes and kayaks look fairly similar - they’re both types of boats and use a paddle - but there are a few differences between the two. Canoes are open, have higher sides, and can carry more people and cargo; kayaks are (usually) closed, have lower sides, and are more agile and fast. Canoes are usually paddled by one or two people with single-bladed paddles, while kayaks are normally paddled by one person with double-bladed paddles.

There are a variety of different choices in terms of the size and composition of the vessel as well as the intended number of users.

Whichever vessel you choose, it’s important to consider safety before going out on the water. Please refer to the WSS kayaking/canoeing safety code which highlights the main considerations and advice.
