As covered widely in the media, there has been a spike in influenza cases recently. This has resulted in a significant increase in demand for appointments. We understand that for this reason our routine appointments are often filled quickly and this can be frustrating. All staff are working hard to provide as many appointments as possible. We politely ask that patients are responsible with their requests for 'urgent' telephone slots, reserving these requests for urgent medical problems that cannot wait until the next day. You will be required to provide brief details for an urgent appointment so that the GPs can triage safely. We want to thank you all for your patience during this busy time and for your support in helping us care for the community.

As flu cases rise across Highland and Argyll & Bute, we're taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe.

From this week, our staff in hospitals and community settings will be wearing masks as a protective measure.

We would also ask that visitors to our hospitals also wear masks which will be available on arrival.

This helps us protect our patients and keep our essential services running when you need them most.

Please only visit NHS Highland sites if you are symptom free and limit the number of visitors to relatives and loved ones to help keep everyone safe.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

We are pleased to welcome Jordan Rennie to our GP Medical Admin Team at Lochgilphead Medical Centre.

Helene Verbeek, our First Contact Physiotherapist, has worked here for a little while, we thought it was time to run a staff spotlight:

“I have been at Lochgilphead Medical Centre and the Mid-Argyll hospital for just over three years, building on 25 years of physiotherapy practice in South Africa and supported by postgraduate diplomas in pelvic health and interdisciplinary pain management.

In my role as an Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner and First Contact Practitioner, I have gained experience across both primary (GP) and secondary (musculoskeletal & orthopaedic) care settings.

I can request radiography imaging, I have completed injection therapy training, and I am a non-medical prescriber. Most recently, I completed the Clinical Assessment for Advanced Practitioners. I am currently pursuing a postgraduate diploma in Rural Advanced Practice, with the intention of progressing to a Master’s degree in the near future.

I enjoy working in these many different roles in the beautiful rural setting of Argyll.”

Appointments with Helene for new musculoskeletal & joint problems can be booked directly with the admin team.
