Spices & Digestive Dilemmas
Spices have an interesting and entangled history; the spice route extended Europe to Asia and eventually the Americas. Valued for their medicinal characteristics, they improve digestion when adding pinches of these spices to dairy produce, such as yoghurt, kefir and sour cream; their qualities are warming. They help to break down high protein foods such as meats and beans along with the skill to control the growth of unfriendly bacteria caused by eating animal products.
Herbs are as symbols of love, fertility, courage and strengths as well
as being valued with similar characteristics of spices; they enhance flavour, colour and aroma to a wide variety of dishes that take the edge off inflammatory foods. A combination of these two variants it's easy to create dishes that can help work our way to feeling better.
We should be aware that almost 70% of today’s illnesses originates from dietary choices. A simple, safe, cheap and above all effective treatment but which is often overlooked by the vast majority is correct diet.
Learning to understand the relationship between specific foods and digestion is uncomplicated. If you eat a wide variety of real food, and 60% of your food intake is from the plant kingdom, you may get adequate antioxidants, which will help decrease free radicals that damage cells, encouraging disease.
Take for instance the subject of the acid/alkaline diet and balancing Ph levels. Herbs and spices are alkaline; they work with acidic foods such as meats, fish and dairy produce. Easily accessible, they are an excellent addition to help improve overall health.
The bottom line; all herbs and spices are perfect additives that take the edge off inflammatory foods. If you are not feeling in top condition, it is a good idea to maintain a diet of 80% plant-based foods/20% acid foods until you have recovered and then adjust to
60% alkaline/40% acid diet.
Quality nourishment and living can be simple; you will be amazed once you start to eat this way that your body, works with you. A starting point is a well-stocked cupboard and spice rack. A favourite brand is Marks and Sparks, easy access that can fit a teaspoon making it an undeniable, kitchen shortcut to creating flavourful, delicious dishes within minutes. It's time to stimulate the senses, get your digestive system back on track, focus on prevention, by assisting your system and fueling it with what it requires to function efficiently.
