Due to the increased cost of fuel the Lochinver Lifeboat crew have been busy practicing their kite flying skills to allow us to respond quickly to any situation while keep costs down for the charity. On exercise we managed an impressive 18 knots with just 3 kites.

πŸ“Ÿ Shout 21.03.26 πŸ“Ÿ

The Lochinver lifeboat crew were paged at 16:00 today after receiving information about a person that had fallen and injured their leg at a beach just outside the harbour.

The lifeboat launched shortly after and was on scene within 5 minutes.

Due to the location the Y boat was launched with casualty care trained crew onboard who headed ashore to make an assessment.

It was quickly established that the casualty was in pain, required immobilisation of the injury and would need to be transported off the beach by stretcher.

The lifeboat crew administered pain relief and transported the casualty back to the lifeboat. They then made the short trip back to the station where they handed over to the awaiting ambulance crew.

The Lochinver lifeboat crew wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

The Lochinver Lifeboat crew were paged for the first time this year at 11:43 by Stornoway Coastguard after they received a request for assistance from the Scottish Ambulance Service with a casualty at Scoraig.

The Lifeboat launched shortly after and made best speed arriving in Little Loch Broom 45 minutes later.

On arrival the Y boat was launched to pickup Scottish Ambulance Paramedics and their equipment.
The lifeboat then made the short trip across the Loch landing the Paramedics and 2 crew members on the jetty at Scoraig.

Paramedics assessed the casualty and due to their condition the decision was made to request the Coastguard Helicopter to transport the casualty to Hospital.

Once the Helicopter departed the Paramedics and their equipment were transported back across the Loch.

With the Casualty on route to hospital and the Paramedics safely back at their Ambulance the Lochinver Lifeboat crew headed for home arriving around an hour later.

The Lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service again at 18:30.

The Lochinver lifeboat team would like to thank all of you for your continued support over the last year and wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year when it comes.

Without your support we couldn’t do what we do.

πŸ“Ÿ Shout 25.10.25 πŸ“Ÿ

The Lochinver lifeboat crew were paged today at 12:55 after the Coastguard received reports of a life raft floating at the entrance to Loch Inver.

The lifeboat launched shortly after and headed out into a fresh Northwesterly arriving at the search area 10 minutes later.

It was quickly established that the life raft belonged to the fishing vessel that the lifeboat had responded to earlier in the month after it ran ashore.

With no one in danger the lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service again.

Station mechanic Douglas Pirie said after the shout:
β€œthe members of the public absolutely did the right thing by reporting the life raft and in that scenario we would always encourage it. Thankfully on this occasion no one was in need of our assistance.”

Shout πŸ“Ÿ 14.10.25 πŸ“Ÿ

The Lochinver lifeboat crew were requested to launch at 02:45 this morning after the Coastguard received a Mayday and EPIRB alert from a vessel that had run aground at the entrance to Loch Inver.

The lifeboat launched shortly afterwards and made best speed to the vessels position.

Once on scene the crew members were spotted on nearby rocks and the Y boat was launched immediately to transfer them to the safety of the lifeboat.

Unfortunately it was quickly obvious that nothing could be done to save the vessel.

The lifeboat then headed back to Lochinver where the casualty vessels crew were given a change of clothes and hot drinks to warm them up.

Thankfully the crew were well prepared with an EPIRB, portable VHF and all wearing life jackets.

The picture was taken later in the morning by a local workboat.

Our station flag is flying at half mast today.

This follows the tragic news from the Norwegian sea rescue society, who reported on Saturday that it has lost one of its own - a boat crew member who was killed while attempting a rescue.

Adrian Willyson Brask, a much-valued member made the ultimate sacrifice during a rescue operation to save a child. His loss is felt deeply by the global Search and Rescue community, and we stand united with our colleagues in mourning him.

"He died while performing the most important task a rescue boat crew can have - to try to save another life," said Grete Herlofson, general secretary of Redningsselskapet.

Adrian’s death is a sobering reminder of the inherent risks faced by those who dedicate their lives to saving others.
