Good morning

I’m sure we all welcome Scotland moving beyond level 0, unfortunately within the practice there has been no changes to the procedures we must do to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and this means we are still seeing a reduced number of patients compared to pre-COVID.

We will continue to ask patients not to attend the practice without an appointment and to call on 01505 843105 or email us info@bluewaterdentist.co.uk . When you do attend for an appointment please wear a face covering and come at your appointment time.

We are continuing to contact patients on different waiting lists including those who need new dentures or crowns. We will be in touch with patients directly when we are able to make appointments.

Thanks

It has been some time since we shared an update on things at the practice largely as there has been little change in provision since November 2020.

Whilst we are now able to provide a full range of services we are extremely busy and are some way from being back to normal. We have now passed 1 year since the suspension of normal dentistry and so we have many thousands of patients who are now overdue check- ups, we appreciate your frustrations about this however this is not an excuse to take this out on reception staff. We are currently working through this backlog of check-ups and treatments. If you are on a waiting list for treatment we will contact you when we can offer an appointment.

In recent weeks there has been a noticeable increase in aggression towards our reception staff which will not be tolerated. We are dealing with numerous contacts daily with patients in pain or with broken teeth and lost crowns all of which require triage to allow the correct appointment to be offered. You will always be offered the first appointment that is most appropriate for your individual situation.

Please do not attend the practice unless you have a scheduled appointment and do not attend more than 5 minutes before your appointment time.

If you are unable to get through on the phone please leave a message and someone will get back to you. You can also email us info@bluewaterdentist.co.uk and someone will get back to you.

Thanks Bluewater Dental

🦠CORONAVIRUS UPDATE🦠

As a result of ‘lock down’ all dentists have now ceased all but EMERGENCY dental treatment.
Emergencies include :

✅ Dental trauma (e.g. knocked a tooth out)
✅ Significant dental/facial swelling that is worsening
✅ Uncontrollable bleeding from the mouth
✅ Severe dental pain that cannot be managed by painkillers

Examples of dental problems that will NOT result in an emergency appointment include:

❌ Dental pain that can be relieved with painkillers
❌ Crowns/bridges out
❌ Broken fillings
❌ Broken teeth
❌ Bleeding gums
❌ Orthodontic problems, e.g. brackets off

We have also been issued with new guidance from the health board advising us to minimise patient contact as much as possible and also to stop using the dental drill completely. As such, we have changed our practice protocol as follows:
1️⃣ Do NOT approach the practice without prior appointment. The practice door will now be locked with only 1 patient allowed in the premises at any time. If you need an emergency appointment you must first PHONE THE PRACTICE.
2️⃣ If you call for an emergency appointment you will be triaged by one of the dentists. If your problem is not a true emergency you will be given advice on how best to manage this at home. You will not be issued an appointment so please do not attend the practice. If your situation worsens you will of course be able to phone the practice again for further advice.
3️⃣ If your dental problem is severe pain that cannot be managed by painkillers you will likely be given 2 options:
- Attend an appointment for EXTRACTION of problem tooth
- Receive a prescription for ANTIBIOTICS which will be left for you to collect at a local pharmacy. Please note you should not attend the practice in this scenario.
4️⃣ We are no longer allowed to start any root canal treatments to relieve dental pain as we are not allowed to use the dental drill. If you elect for antibiotics and your pain is no better after 7 days you should phone the practice again, at which point you will be given the choice of attending for extraction of the tooth or being referred on to the Public Dental Services for further treatment.

If you need to speak to us regarding an emergency, please call 07879042054 .

We hope that everyone stays safe over the next few weeks and hate not being able to see our patients when they need an appointment. We look forward to seeing you all soon when the world is back to normal.

Best
