We’ve loved helping every single person who’s come along to our workshops to mend, alter or upcycle their clothes and textiles. It means so much to us when people take the time to share their feedback with us after the workshop.

It’s lovely for us to read, but it’s also so important for understanding the impact of accessible creative spaces like our workshops on people’s sense of community and wellbeing.

As we come to the end of our grant from The National Lottery Community Fund and the workshops they’ve funded, we want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who came along to one of our sessions!

Since March 2024, we’ve supported 424 participants across 43 workshops to repair, alter and upcycle their clothes and textiles.

We’ve loved helping you to keep your clothes going for longer and couldn’t have done it without the energy and creativity you’ve all bought along to the workshops!

An extra big thank you to St. Margaret's House and The Remakery for allowing us to use your spaces for free. This support has meant we could offer our workshops for free to the community!

And an extra extra big thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund and all the players of The National Lottery who have made our project possible!

Sometimes clothes sit on the mending pile for weeks when they would only take a few minutes to repair.

This shirt was splitting at the seam along the back. As the pattern is busy and the style is quite loose, the frayed edge could be folded under the stitch line that was already there, pinned in place and then another line of sewing stitched on top using the sewing machine.

All finished in 10 minutes, squeezing in a quick repair is just as good as spending a whole evening on your pile! 🪡🧵🌼

We couldn’t make it along to today but we did manage to squeeze in some mending at home!

Taking some inspiration from a mend by one of the attendees to our workshops, Eleanor patched up the back of these trainers with some scrap Lycra fabric. The mesh had frayed and fallen apart around the edges so she darned some of the holes as well.

Definitely an experimental mend but the trainers have got a little more life in them now! What did you mend on ?

The sun has got us all mending this month! ☀️🪡

We’ve been busy running clothes repair and upcycling workshops across London the last couple of weeks. Yesterday we were in Edgware at sharing clothes repair and alteration skills. It’s always so lovey to see the connections made over a pile of mending! 💚

We are coming into the final few months of our funding from the The National Lottery Community Fund which has meant we’ve been able to offer 20 free places at our workshops in Bethnal Green, Brixton and online since March 2024.

With this pause in our funding at the end of June, we’ve decided to take a longer break this summer.

We’ve been running workshops at least twice a month since August 2018, with a break in August each year. Alongside this, we’ve balanced full-time jobs, running another business and juggling freelance work.

This break will give us a chance to reflect on what we’ve achieved in our workshops so far, whilst looking ahead to how we’d like them to continue in the future.

We plan to be back with more community mending workshops in October 🪡

A little stain might not mean your clothes end up heading for landfill but it can still stop you wearing your favourite ones as much as you’d like to.

After trying a couple of different cleaning methods, this stain didn’t seem to be budging. It seemed like the easiest way to fix this stain would be to hand stitch over it in a matching colour thread.

Using small stitches and following the shape of the stain meant the stitching blended in and the jeans were ready to wear again straight away!

In the last week, we’ve been all over London helping people to mend, alter and up-cycle their clothes and textiles.

Participants fixed zips in trousers, took up hems, patched well-loved shirts, replaced the hooks on their bras, took in waistbands and lots more. It was so nice to see so many of you getting involved!

So nice to see so many people getting creative this January! We had a mix of new faces and regulars at our workshops at St. Margaret's House and The Remakery last week.

Participants were replacing tattered jacket pockets, sewing up holes in the lining of their coat, fixing zips, sewing up hems and altering clothes to get the perfect fit!

We loved being a part of 64 Million Artists last Thursday! Alongside our creative prompt, we hosted a workshop at St. Margaret's House to help participants creatively repair and upcycle their clothes.

A mix of regular workshop attendees and new faces joined us to create upcycled graphic t-shirts, turn swimming costumes into scrunchies, crop jumpers with blanket stitch, patch jeans and more!

If you’ve signed up for 64 Million Artists our creative prompt is in your inboxes now!

Our prompt encourages you to find new creative uses for the materials around you and reconsider what you might see as waste. Try using paper, rubber bands or string as a thread to stitch with and see what you can create!

We’ll be hosting a workshop St. Margaret's House this morning exploring this theme and encouraging participants to upcycle and redecorate using reclaimed materials and clothing.
