Nested at the stunning .margarets.house, we are surrounded by wonderful non-profit organisations. This complex of Georgian terrace buildings has served local communities since 1753. St Margaret’s House was created as part of the Settlement Movement in the late 19th century to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor. It hosted English classes and healthcare services.

These days, St Margaret’s House is a home to multiple art, design, health and wellbeing projects, still uniting people from all walks of life. We particularly love embroidery workshops 🧵 , climate 🌱 talks, and children’s puppetry shows 🎪 at the Mulberry Hall. To name just a few of the 30+ community organisations and charities hosted by St Margaret’s House,

designs eco-friendly architecture
curates quality vintage clothes
helps street children worldwide
creates interactive drama workshops & shows

We are always looking for more fully qualified body and mind practitioners to join our team.

🌟 What we offer:

✅ Four lovingly designed, airy rooms in Bethnal Green that create a gentle and nourishing background
✅ Supportive, multidisciplinary team
✅ Flexible and affordable room booking
✅ A vegan cafe in the garden to recharge between the appointments

Room 3 is a cozy and welcoming space for talking therapies. We love the abstract painting our late friend and artist Vidyajyoti donated to us in 2010. It brings a sense of calm and depth to the room.

Warm and elegant, room 5 creates an understated background for talking therapies. It features a series of East London building photographs.

Room 12, facing the quiet back of building, is a versatile and calm space for bodywork and counselling.

Room 8 is our biggest space. It features a hydraulic treatment couch. Here we host our shiatsu, acupuncture, cranial therapy, osteopathy and one-to-one Yoga sessions. The light from two windows underpins the dreamy, nature-inspired painting by our friend Vidyajyoti. With original tiles from the late 19th century, this is an imaginative, spacious, and calm zone for restoring energy. Plus, in late summer, we sometimes collect fruit from the mulberry tree right through the window.

For us, this mulberry tree 🌳symbolizes Bodywise and St Margaret’s House as a whole. Back in the late 19th and early 20th century, St Margaret’s House ran a needlework scheme to employ poor women throughout the winter months 🧣. Although we doubt silk weaving 🧶was a part of the process, we see this mulberry tree as a gathering point for the community.

Its juicy, tangy berries 🍇 are each a cluster of individual drupes fused together, with each containing a seed, just like a community of therapists at Bodywise. Be warned, though, when coming to us in the summer: it’s hard to resist picking them right from our window, and their juice can decorate your clothes and hands!
