A favourite photo from my trip to Stockholm... I can't resist a big foot!

This week on the blog I'm talking about the link between cold weather and increased pain.

When the temperatures drop like this we often see an increase in old injury flares -which can be more painful when cold, and that leads to a downturn in activity. But as a Podiatrist it’s my job to keep you moving – even when it’s tempting to hibernate.

So, should you slow down, yes and no… in most cases gentle movement is helpful in aiding recovery along with preventing new injuries – our bodies are made to move. Motion is lotion 😊

Our bodies also benefit from massage, acupuncture, podiatry massage, and shockwave therapy so be sure to factor in hands on body work to assist with healing and keep you supple and pain free.

Did you know I have a blog?

This fortnight I am musing about an amazing trip to Stockholm - and the health benefits of uninterrupted time away from the screen and in nature.

The yoga and CrossFit didn't hurt either! Read more: https://tracybyrne.co.uk/Blog

Don’t forget to change your clock tonight! ⏰

These little shifts can throw our bodies off - and the dryness of winter can be harsh on our feet. Cold, dry air saps skin of moisture, leaving feet dry, cracked, and calloused. Then add months of thick socks and boots, and you’ve got a warm, moist environment that can increase the risk of fungal toenails or athlete’s foot. Tight boots and heavy socks? That’s how a little corn or two can sneak in before the season ends.

My team and I are here to help you through the seasonal transition. Small steps now can make a huge difference in how you feel over the months ahead 💛

Did you know hormonal changes can affect your ligaments and the way your feet move?

During peri-menopause, it’s common to see issues like plantar fasciitis or bunion pain flare up. Supporting women through this, with compassion and knowledge, is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. I integrate cyclical awareness into my treatment plans because hormones affect everything, including your feet, muscles, and recovery.

It’s not ‘just age’ - it’s your body asking for support while it experiences a huge transition.

My diary for November is filling fast, so let me support you this autumn: https://holistic-health.uk1.cliniko.com/bookings?practitioner_id=649868680645056077

If I could give one piece of advice to every parent: let your children’s feet be free as much as possible!

Barefoot play helps build strength, balance, and coordination from the ground up.

Where kids must wear shoes (school, etc!) I've compiled some handy guidance to help you choose shoes that support, and don't hinder, their natural development.

Much like the calendar of annual celebrations, Podiatry has its own seasons too - and right now, we’re well into what I like to call “ingrown toenail season"!

After more than 20 years in practice, I’ve noticed the same pattern every autumn: as we swap sandals for waterproof trainers, wellies, and walking boots, our feet start to protest. Those sturdier shoes can put pressure on toenails, encouraging them to curve and grow into the skin. Add in tightly laced or brand-new boots, and it’s no surprise we see more painful, compressed feet at this time of year.

If you’re dealing with an ingrown toenail, please don’t suffer through it - there’s so much Podiatrists can do to help. In most cases, I can treat and relieve the pain straight away by gently trimming the nail and draining any infection. And if needed, we can perform a quick, painless nail procedure right here in our Hackney clinic to stop the problem from coming back.

Between myself and my associate Conn, we offer appointments throughout the week - including weekends - so it’s easy to find a time that works for you.

👣 Book your appointment today, and let’s get you comfortable again before the colder months set in.

Today, on World Mental Health Day, I want to reflect on how your appointments with me go beyond the surface.

Whether we’re discussing Vitamin B12, biomechanics, or foot health, I approach every consultation using the biopsychosocial model – seeing you as a whole person, not just a checklist of symptoms.

Sometimes, a conversation about your feet or energy levels can open up other boxes – feelings, stresses, and experiences that impact your overall health. I strive to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported – because your mental wellbeing is just as important as your physical health.

For me, podiatry isn’t just about feet – it’s about people.

This week marked , so let's talk about nutrient powerhouse Vitamin B12!

Whilst it's commonly agreed that veggies and vegans are particularly at risk of low Vitamin B12 levels, omnivores aren't exempt.

That's because Vitamin B12 is made by bacteria in soil and water. Traditionally, farmed animals got their B12 from eating food from the ground, which was how the powerhouse nutrient ended up in meat and dairy products.

But modern factory farming methods have changed leaving animals needing B12 supplements too!

Up to 40% of adults in the UK are thought to be Vitamin B12 deficient, and with the symptoms ranging from cognitive, neurological and mental health, a deficiency is often mistaken for something else.

Booking in for a course of Vitamin B12 (or your booster!) is an ideal way to ensure your body has the levels it needs to make it through autumn and winter fighting fit.

It's easy to schedule your appointment online: https://www.holistichealthhackney.co.uk/health-clinic/vitamin-b12-injection/

I am always so grateful to the patients who take the time to leave a review!

My favourite analogy is that giving great care isn't the same as serving a delicious plate of pasta. You don't necessarily jump to Google in the same way after a trip to the Podiatrist, but in today's digital age it makes all the difference to the next person choosing their care provider.

Thank you CJ for taking the time to share your experience with me at Holistic Health.
