Yesterday, we held our Respiratory Clinical Research Training Day in Birmingham for the next generation of respiratory researchers.
This incredible day featured a number of distinguished faculty who explored routes into research, deciding on a research area, and how to develop applications for a PhD.
We welcomed 40 respiratory specialty trainees who spent the day networking with like-minded professionals and gaining valuable advice from established respiratory researchers.
Thank you to all who attended and helped to make the day a resounding success.

Children often become very attached to stuffed toys, carrying their furry friends wherever they go. 🧸
To keep these cherished companions clean and safe for your little one, here are some helpful tips:
Minimize the number of stuffed toys, and only buy them if they’re machine-washable in hot water (55-60°C) and can be put in the dryer.
Make sure the humidity level is below 50%, to reduce the growth of dust mites and moulds. Use a hygrometer to measure humidity levels.
Store stuffed animals inside a trunk or other storage case when not used to limit exposure to dust and dust mites.

What is bronchiectasis?
Bronchiectasis is a condition in which your airways widen and stretch out. In some places the airways are so stretched out they form little pockets. Germs, dust and mucus collect in these pockets and get stuck, which can cause infection. Bronchiectasis creates a vicious cycle: infections in airway pockets damage your airways, and when your airways are damaged, you get more infections.

Bronchiectasis is considered an obstructive lung disease. It can affect adults, children and infants. Adults usually get bronchiectasis after an infection in the lungs, for example after severe pneumonia, tuberculosis or whooping cough.

In babies and children, bronchiectasis is often the result of a congenital problem (a problem they are born with or develop during birth). The main cause of congenital bronchiectasis is cystic fibrosis. Other conditions such as immunodeficiency disorders are also linked to bronchiectasis.

I am Dr. Aimée Brame, a Consultant Physician with specialist training in Respiratory Medicine, General Medicine, and Intensive Care Medicine. I completed my undergraduate training at the University of Birmingham (MBChB, 2001) and went on to complete my postgraduate training in Respiratory and General Medicine in the North West Thames region. I then undertook Intensive Care training in the London Deanery and hold the European Diploma in Intensive Care Medicine (EDIC).

I am registered on the UK Specialist Register (GMC) in General Medicine, Respiratory Medicine, and Intensive Care Medicine.

In addition to my clinical work, I hold a PhD in Translational Medicine and Therapeutics from the University of Cambridge. I am actively involved in several clinical studies that explore changes in haemodynamics across a variety of clinical conditions. I have authored several book chapters and published original papers and abstracts.

My areas of expertise include general medicine and respiratory medicine, with a particular subspecialty interest in pulmonary vascular disease and breathlessness.
