It's with great sadness that we learn about the tragic passing of world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum and his coach in a road traffic accident last Sunday.
His remarkable achievement in Chicago last year, setting a time of 2 hours and 35 seconds, was truly extraordinary. Running each of the 42 kilometers at an average pace of 2 minutes and 51 seconds per kilometer, a pace beyond the reach of the average person for even 200 meters.
Kelvin's absence will be deeply felt at the upcoming London Marathon in April, where he was anticipated to secure a podium place, possibly claiming victory.
This is a mournful day for the global running community, and the loss is profound for the sport. We will never know the extent of what else he could have accomplished. Rest in peace, Kelvin.
