🇮🇹 A memorable celebration of the Italian in the stunning setting of the National Gallery in London.
The event, hosted by the Consul General of Italy, Console Domenico Bellantone brought together members of the Italian and British community to honour the values of our Republic — democracy, culture, and unity.
It was a true privilege to take part in such an elegant evening, which beautifully showcased Italy’s enduring spirit and its strong ties with the UK. An honour to be part of this community.

Feeling grateful for this kind feedback from a recent patient who came in for a colonoscopy and colonic polyps treatment.
It’s always a privilege to provide care that leaves patients feeling reassured and well looked after.
Three key highlights I’ll take home from this fantastic edition of 2025:
1. It was a great honour to present the preliminary data of a multicenter European study on the risk of covert deep submucosal invasion—nearly 2,500 ESDs across 17 centres. A massive thank you to all collaborators for making this possible! Currently finalising the data analysis of 4000 ESD!
2. I’m incredibly proud of our Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust endoscopy fellows—Dr Alessandro Rimondi, Dr Elisabet Maristany Bosch and Dr Georgios Kalopitas —who had 14 abstracts accepted and 7 oral presentations! It’s a real joy to watch you grow under the guidance of my dear friend and colleague Dr Edward John Despott UOM and myself.
3. I was once again delighted to be part of the faculty, surrounded by brilliant colleagues. With Prof. Hassan now at the helm, the European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) is in excellent hands and will continue to thrive.
Next stop the International AEM Malta 2025—see you there!

Busy and enriching educational activity at Cleveland Clinic London.
Congratulations to Prof. Jamie Murphy and Mr. Chetan Bhan for the hugely successful Re**al Cancer Study Day. I had the opportunity to discuss the role of Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) in early re**al cancer treatment and thoroughly enjoyed the lively discussions with my colore**al consultant surgical colleagues on the expanding role of ESD in this setting.
The Advanced Endoscopy Course for Nurses, led by Dr. Haidry and Ms. Alana Stevens, was extremely popular and well attended by endoscopy nurses. The highly interactive sessions and dedicated hands-on training in advanced endoscopic techniques made it an engaging and valuable experience. It is never enough to emphasize the central role of endoscopy nurses in patient care and their vital support during complex procedures.
A big thank you to the organizers for the invitation and for putting together such excellent courses!
