HALF A CENTURY OF SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE
'AVD' is based upon findings from over 50 years of scientific research into the effects of naturally occurring chemicals on viruses and human immunity. The proposal of an anti-viral diet is based on evidence from over 1000 experiments, studies, reviews, trials etc. - web-linked to sections on each Anti-Viral Ingredient. SARS-CoV-2 is only one of the many viru
ses which are a threat to human health and life. AVD investigates the verifiable effects of 52 dietary ingredients against a number of viruses with reference to recent scientific research. Viruses against which natural dietary ingredients have shown anti-viral effects include: Influenzas, Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), Herpes Simplex, Ebola, Rotavirus, Dengue and Zika. Each of the 52 Ingredient sections of the book indicates the specific viruses against which the constituent in question has shown anti-viral effect - either through direct contact with the virus or through optimizing immune responses. The COVID-19 Edition of this publication places special focus on drawing from the results of recent research into dietary compounds that appear to counteract the SARS-CoV-2 virus. As far as the 52 ingredients proposed in AVD are concerned, scientific evidence seems to lend significant support for them playing an effective role in such a diet. In some cases, constituents introduced have been shown to have a direct effect against viruses - via a number of different molecular mechanisms - while in other instances research has proven that they can enhance the responses of the human immune system. AVD is divided into three separate stages, which progressively introduce the ‘Anti-Viral Diet’. Part 1 discusses the impact of Coronaviruses on us - above all SARS-CoV-2. It represents views of numerous scientists on the research into natural chemicals that has been done to explore new ways of protecting against these & other viruses. Part 2 then provides core knowledge about the anti-viral and immunomodulatory properties of fifty-two natural ingredients - all found in or as food - in each case indicating which viruses they have been shown to act against or how the immune system is enhanced by them. Summaries of Key Points are provided at the end of each of the three stages of AVD. Finally, Part 3 sets forth the outline of a preliminary 'Anti-Viral Diet' with which to incorporate some of the ingredients from Part 2 into one’s daily dietary intake. A broader range of healthy eating guidelines from WHO are also introduced as a fundamental basis for this diet. A Summary Overview of the 'Anti-Viral Diet' is provided at the very close of the publication. Two editions of 'AVD' are currently available. The 'COVID-19 Edition' places special focus on identifying dietary ingredients that may be effective against SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. The 'ACADEMY Edition' includes 250 pages of additional scientific research data. 'The Science Behind AVD' is available from November 2020.
