Adam joined CP+R in 2016 after being told he was at risk of cardiovascular disease and that his health was poorer than he thought. Adam believed he could turn his health around independently but struggled with consistency due to a busy work and family life.

Whilst Adam didn’t have any specific clinical conditions, we identified that his body mass, body fat and cholesterol were outside of normal ranges which posed a real health risk. Adam also wanted to feel fitter and stronger so he could continue to play with his children as they grew up.

Our key focus for Adam was consistency. He a good understanding of how to achieve health improvements but struggled to implement a plan that would last. To help Adam, we used his data that we tracked on adherence, performance and predicted success to help him see where he had come from and where he was going. This hugely motivated him towards his long term goals and allowed him to make consistent lifestyle changes.

Adam is still with CP+R 6 years after joining us and continues to thrive on a much healthier lifestyle. Adam consistently achieves four exercise sessions a week and has transformed his diet to minimise processed food, and include healthier substitutes. Adam’s goals have now changed to be more performance based so we now use his data to inform performance metrics such as speed, distance and power.

Since joining Adam has lost over 10 kg of body mass, 11 kg of fat mass and reduced his cholesterol to within a normal range. It’s a honour to continue helping him live longer, better.

If only we could bottle the sunshine and top ourselves up with little doses of sunbeams whenever the rains sets in.
Are you a sun worshipper or vampire? We all know that vitamin D is good for us, but the tricky part is knowing how much is just right before the negative effects such as skin ageing and cancer start to set in.

Our clinical assessments are absolutely vital to the care we provide at CP+R. We are often quoted as saying, "if you're not assessing, you're guessing" because we believe you can't measure progress, without measuring it! Even more importantly, our assessments allow us to review the health of each client in detail and prescribe their health plan in a truly bespoke manner.
β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
There are many of our team involved in every assessment including an assessment specialist, clinical nurse, cardiac coach and experience manager. That's what we call a team-to-one approach.

Here's something you already know: exercise is good for you. But something you might not know is that one single exercise session has been proven to improve brain function in older people. As we age, losing our cognition is one of most people's great fears so it's a huge break through to discover that a natural and hopefully enjoyable human pursuit can have such a profound impact on us. It also offers positive implications for degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's. Click the link in our bio to read the full article.

OK, so we're not poets, but we are science nerds and we love the details. We all know that white bread is considered not very good for us and that brown bread is much better. But could you answer on a postcard 'why'?

Our client, Peter, underwent heart surgery for his aortic aneurysm. Having been extremely active throughout his life, Peter was at a loss about how to exercise safely and in a way that was safe and would speed his recovery quickly after his operation.

A valid question we often get asked by clients is whether it's safe or beneficial to exercise after you've been vaccinated. As people often feel a bit off-colour, it can be hard to know what's best for your body and best for the effectiveness of the vaccine.

In this blog, we look at three scientific studies that provide clear evidence about what you should do.

If you have any questions about vaccinations and exercise, please ask us! These topics make us very excited :)

The pandemic has taken a tremendous toll on society, and it’s impossible to find anyone who hasn’t been impacted by it in one way or another. One of the few positives to come out of the pandemic is the speed at which scientific research is being conducted.

Today we’re looking at an interesting study from Canada, by Colley et al in 2020. Although the study was conducted abroad, the individuals studied were experiencing a similar lockdown to that of the UK. The research looks at how our behaviours have changed as a result of the pandemic.

They questioned 4,524 individuals, with questions aimed at establishing the differences in exercise, screen time, and general wellbeing.

Click on the link below πŸ‘‡ to read the results of the study.
