👁️ What to Expect: Intravitreal Injections Explained

If your consultant recommends intravitreal injections, here’s what that means and why it matters:
➡️“Intravitreal” = injection inside the eye, into the vitreous gel at the back
➡️Used to treat conditions like wet AMD, diabetic retinopathy, macular oedema and eye infections

Benefits:
✅ Delivers medication directly to the retina
✅ Avoids side effects from oral medications
✅ Provides powerful anti VEGF drugs or steroids to protect vision

What it’s like:
1️⃣Quick procedure (under 5 mins) with numbing drops
2️⃣Mild pressure sensation – discomfort is rare
3️⃣You’ll go home the same day, with aftercare instructions and follow-up

We’re here to guide you through the process - every step of the way

🔦 Spotlight on YAG Laser Capsulotomy

Did you know cataract surgery sometimes leaves a slight haze on the back of your lens capsule months later? This is known as a secondary cataract, but there’s a quick fix.

Our consultants use a YAG laser to create a tiny opening in the capsule, restoring your clear vision - typically in 5–10 minutes. The procedure is painless, outpatient-only, and you’ll often notice immediate vision improvement.

Post-op care includes:
📍 A short rest and pressure checks
📍 Fluorescein or antibiotic drops for ~1 week
📍 Most patients return to normal activities the next day

Ask your consultant if YAG might be the right step after cataract surgery.

Keep your eyes peeled for our future post where we showcase our amazing YAG laser, from Daybreak Medical!

🖥️ Meet the Heidelberg Spectralis OCT – our eye imaging powerhouse 👁️

When you visit VISIO Health for a diagnostic scan, you’ll likely meet our Spectralis Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine. It’s one of the most advanced in the world - and it’s quietly doing incredible work every day behind the scenes.

So what is an OCT scan?

It’s a non-invasive, high-resolution scan that takes cross-sectional images of the retina - the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eye. Think of it like an ultrasound, but using light instead of sound.

What does it help us detect?
✔️ Macular degeneration (wet & dry)
✔️ Diabetic retinopathy
✔️ Macular oedema
✔️ Retinal vein occlusion
✔️ Glaucoma
✔️ And many more…

Our Heidelberg Spectralis can also do:
🔹 OCT-A (angiography) – to assess blood flow without using dye
🔹 Autofluorescence & dye-based angiography – for deeper insight in complex cases

It gives our consultants the most detailed view possible - helping us make better decisions for your vision.

Scans are quick, comfortable and completely contact-free.
