📢 SPEAKER ANNOUNCEMENT

🎙️ I am honoured to be speaking at the NMI Summit 2025 in London this October; presenting a session on: “The Role of Nutrition in ADHD and Brain Health”. I will be exploring the impact of nutritional insufficiencies in ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions, drawing on key findings from my recently published paper:
📄 “A Closer Look at the Role of Nutrition in Neurodivergence” (Frontiers in Nutrition).

🧠 Attendees will receive evidenced-based knowledge on the critical importance of nutrients that support brain activity, neurotransmitter function, and the systems that regulate mood and cognition.

🥼I will also reflect on the challenges of conducting nutrition research in psychiatry and highlight why understanding nutrient synergy is essential to bridging current knowledge gaps. Most importantly, I’ll be sharing how these insights can be applied in holistic, personalised care to better support individuals with ADHD and other neurodivergent conditions.

🗓 3–4 October 2025
📍 Millennium Gloucester Hotel, London SW7

🐑 The “black sheep” metaphor describes someone who stands out from the group, family or community (school), because of their often unspoken differences. For many neurodivergent individuals, especially those with ADHD or Autism, this experience can run deep.

🪞From a young age, they may feel like the outsider — misunderstood, overlooked, or labelled as “too much,” “too sensitive,” “too intense,” or “too difficult.” Their ways of thinking, feeling, and interacting can be wildly different from the ‘norm’ — not because they’re wrong, but because they process the world differently. That difference can be isolating.
The black sheep often becomes the scapegoat - carrying the weight of a family or system’s dysfunction, unspoken truths, or intergenerational pain. However, many of these individuals are truth tellers - blunt, brave, and deeply principled. They see through illusions. They challenge broken systems. They ask the questions others avoid. They hold the mirror up.

🧠 Being the black sheep can be lonely, but it’s also powerful. It means seeing things others don’t. Feeling deeply. Refusing to conform just to fit in. It’s a symbol of resilience and authenticity. Sometimes, the black sheep is the one who breaks cycles. Starts movements. Sparks change. Please remember, that being different can be the very thing that makes the difference.

New Publication in Frontiers in Nutrition! 🧠📚

We’re proud to announce news that our new research paper has just been accepted for publication!

“A closer look at the role of nutrition in children and adults with ADHD and neurodivergence” – has been accepted for publication in Frontiers in Nutrition.
📖 Authored by Dr Rachel V. Gow, Dr Simon Dyall (Lead Authors), Carla Smith & Catherine Hunter (MSc Clinical Nutrition students, University of Roehampton), and Research Assistant, Emily Davies.
🔍 Our findings explored brain essential nutrients—including omega‑3 fatty acids, magnesium, zinc, B vitamins, and vitamin D—as well as food intolerances (like dairy and gluten) are associated with ADHD symptom severity across children and adults.
💡 Key insights:
– Lower omega‑3 levels were linked to learning/language difficulties
– Lower magnesium levels correlated with higher disruptive behaviour scores
🎓 A big thank-you to the University of Roehampton, all collaborators who made this possible and of course the wonderful families who participated in this study.
