This International Self-Care Day, let’s redefine what self-care means.

Because for trauma survivors, self-care isn’t self-indulgent. It’s survival.

Sometimes, self-care means:

Cancelling plans.
Holding a boundary.
Turning off your phone.
Getting out in nature.
Saying “no” to what’s familiar but harmful.
Saying “yes” to showing up for yourself.

These small, daily acts that help regulate the nervous system also help rebuild internal trust. At Innisfree Therapy, we help clients reconnect with what true self-care feels like, not what it looks like from the outside.

How's Your Summer Going? ☀️

Summer is known as the season of holidays and carefree fun, but for many, it’s also a season of pressure.

Parties. Travel. Disrupted routines. Social drinking. Family dynamics.

For those in recovery—or those struggling silently—summer can bring a spike in substance use and emotional reactivity. The sun is out, but the nervous system may still feel trapped.

We help clients by building awareness of triggers and strengthening their ability to self-regulate.

Are you ready to enjoy your summer without fear of relapse, emotional chaos or shame?

Many people struggling with s*x addiction/compulsive s*xual behaviour carry a history of s*xual trauma, making it one of the most complicated and challenging subjects to talk about and understand.

The behaviour often begins as a way to soothe, cope, or reclaim control. But over time, it can spiral into secrecy, shame, and disconnection.

Innisfree Therapy offers trauma-informed, confidential and compassionate therapy for clients navigating the complex intersection of s*xual trauma and compulsive behaviour.

This isn’t about blame. It’s about healing.

There is nothing too broken to be repaired. Nothing too hidden to be brought into light.

How many secrets are you keeping?

For those with high-functioning addiction, everything appears to be fine on the outside.
The career. The relationships. The ability to show up and get things done.

But inside? There’s chaos. Shame. Numbness. Secret patterns that feel impossible to stop.

At Innisfree Therapy, we see high-functioning addiction for what it is—a coping strategy that hides unresolved trauma and pain.

We work with clients who appear incredibly successful, yet feel deeply stuck. Together, we examine what lies beneath the behaviour, not just the behaviour itself.

High-functioning isn’t the same as thriving.

You’re not “too much.”
You’re not broken.

You’re dysregulated.

Emotional dysregulation is one of the most common effects of unresolved trauma, and one of the most misunderstood.

Many of our clients come to us feeling out of control in their relationships as they experience periods of rage and sadness. They're ashamed of their reactions, but they don't have the tools to self-regulate.

At Innisfree Therapy, we help untangle the patterns. With trauma-informed therapy, we support nervous system healing, emotional awareness, and tools that help you move from survival mode to safety.

Emotions aren’t the problem. They’re the path.

Thank you White River Manor Luxury Wellness Centre and Giles Fourie for hosting last night and of course Michele Morphitis for orchestrating a wonderful evening - magical!

Last night was a lot of fun and filled by some interesting debate around addiction and trauma, AI, ADHD, 12 step and more. Open discussion and challenge, sharing of ideas and experiences - good stuff!!

Thank you to Dr Chi Chi Obuaya at Dr Chi ChiClinic, Dr Angela Mooney, Dr Andrew McIver of Sloane Medical Practice and Dr Cosmo Duff Gordon of Start2Stop for your contributions and insights fuelling the debate.

Also many thanks to Ed Burns of Priory , Robin Fenwick-Smith at Promises Behavioral Health and Charlie Birch-Reynardson.

We do things differently at Innisfree Therapy.

Here, therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s not passive. And it’s never surface-level.

We specialise in treating trauma and compulsive behaviours, particularly S*x Addiction/Compulsive S*xual Behaviour (CSB) and betrayal trauma, through a multidisciplinary, trauma-informed approach that supports both individuals and families.

Our therapists are warm, skilled, and deeply committed to the process. Our clients are met with empathy, not judgement. And the work we do is real, relational, and often life-changing.

If you’ve tried therapy before and it didn’t go deep enough, maybe you just hadn’t found the right place.

At Innisfree Therapy, we give you hope.

“I didn’t think therapy would work for me. I’d tried before, but nothing stuck. Innisfree was different. For the first time, I felt truly seen. Understood. Like I wasn’t broken...I was just carrying more than I knew how to hold on my own.”

💙 We hear versions of this story every day.

Many of our clients have done therapy before — but not like this. Not with a team who understands trauma. Who sees beneath the behaviour to the pain it’s masking. Who knows how to create safety, not just strategies.

This is what we do.

And it’s why people get better here.

Innisfree Therapy Ltd and Rob Watt are looking forward to attending the UKESAD Conference on 30 June – 1 July at The Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London.

One of the leading events in the UK for professionals working in addiction, trauma, and mental health recovery, UKESAD brings together clinicians, researchers, and thought leaders from across the sector for two powerful days of learning, connection, and collaboration.

We’re especially inspired by this year’s emphasis on recovery-oriented, client-centred care — values that are deeply aligned with our own at Innisfree.

If you’re attending, stop by and introduce yourself!

Let’s connect, share ideas, and keep pushing the field forward — together.

When one person struggles, the whole family feels it.

Trauma, addiction, compulsive behaviours — they don’t happen in a vacuum. They ripple outward, affecting trust, communication, roles, and emotional safety within the family system.

At Innisfree, we work with families to untangle these patterns and create space for repair.

Our therapy isn’t about blame or rehashing old wounds, it’s about creating the conditions for:
✔️ Honesty
✔️ Accountability
✔️ Connection

Whether your family is navigating a crisis or beginning to heal from one, we offer a place where everyone’s voice can be heard and where new patterns can begin.

When a partner’s compulsive s*xual behaviour is discovered, it can feel like your entire reality has collapsed.

What you thought was real may no longer feel safe. Trust is shattered. Your sense of self and your future suddenly feels uncertain.

At Innisfree Therapy, we specialise in supporting partners through betrayal trauma. We understand the complex grief, the shock, the anger, and the confusion that comes with these discoveries.

⚠️ You’re not “overreacting.” You’re responding to trauma.

Our work centres on helping partners stabilise, reclaim autonomy, understand their nervous system’s reactions, and rebuild a sense of internal and relational safety.

You’re not alone. And there is support for you, too.
