Restore Scar Therapy

Restore Scar Therapy Emma Holly at Restore Scar Therapy is UK's leading education provider on scar therapy and scar massage. Emma has a scar clinic in Harley Street, London.
(4)

Offering therapist training courses on the impact and treatment of scars, adhesions and fibrosis. Emma Holly is one of the UK’s leading scar therapy specialists. An educator on the subject of scar therapy to health professionals. With a clinical practice in London Harley Street she uses gentle but effective manual therapy, alongside medical devices for improving scar tissue and adhesions. As skin

is healing after an operation or accident, different layers under the skin get stuck together as the body works to close and heal the wound. Scar treatment can help gently release these stuck layers to allow better function and movement in the scar tissue and surrounding fascial tissue, muscles and ligaments. Prevention is the best way to approach scar care, starting early with products to help the skin heal with minimal scar tissue formation. Emma teaches online and hands on classes and lectures on the subject of scars and supporting recovery.

Two Final Zooms in Two Weeks... and So Much to Celebrate! 💻✨

Over the past two weeks, I had the absolute joy of administering two final Zoom sessions for two incredibly inspiring certifications:

👩‍⚕️ The Oncology Scar Specialists from Carmarthen in June certified with the brilliant Sarah Clark
🤱 The Caesarean Scar Specialists from Bristol in June certifying with the amazing Amy Poole

These sessions mark the end of such meaningful training—though the journey continues with ongoing support in our WhatsApp and Facebook groups. The learning, sharing, and connection never really stop. 💬💕

Sarah received some heartwarming feedback from her recent course:

"Sarah is a fantastic teacher... She’s got so much experience and knowledge and was able to answer all the questions we threw at her! It was a great balance between learning and feeling relaxed… As a nurse and therapist with 20+ years’ experience, I gained a huge amount from this course and now I just want to learn even more!"

And from the final Zoom:

"I loved it! It was great to have more opportunities to share and learn from everyone and to ask questions to the tutor."

Amy’s Caesarean Scar course left a lasting impression too:

"I absolutely loved the Caesarean Scar Specialist course—it has completely transformed the way I will approach working with women who have had a caesarean delivery. Amy is an incredible wealth of knowledge… Her passion and depth of experience were truly inspiring."

I’m so grateful to witness the power of education, connection, and community each time we reach the final Zoom. Congratulations to all of our newly certified specialists—what an impact you’re going to make. 💫

🌟 Testimonial Tuesday 🌟
Featuring: Joana Bowen – Joana Bowen's Scar Therapy

"I recently received scar therapy from Joana. She created a warm, supportive environment and really listened to my concerns. After the treatment, I noticed a significant improvement in my scar tightness, which greatly enhanced my mobility and comfort. She also taught me helpful massage techniques to use at home. I truly appreciate Joana’s expertise and would highly recommend her to anyone seeking scar therapy."

We love hearing success stories like this — a testament not only to Joana’s skill and care, but also to the high standards of training she received through Restore Therapy.

Off to Harley Street for a scar clinic with my 6D tape packed and ready to use. 6D tape is a great tool for lifting, mobilising and stretching superficial soft tissue. As a scar specialist I only use 6D on scars that are robust with good skin integrity. This is a great addition to my selection of options for clients self-scar care.

Recently I used 6D tape on a man with traumatic injuries having stepped on some sheets of greenhouse glass. Four and a half months post injury to his lower leg his recovery was going well. He admitted he was not great at self-care, and was unlikely to massage his scar at home. With a large area of thick and dense soft tissue around and under the injury site we applied 6D tape for his self care.

➡️ 6D tape should be adhered with no stretch applied.

➡️ Allow 15 minutes before using to mobilise the skin to allow the glue to fully activate.

➡️ Use the tape to lift and mobilise the skin and superficial fascia.

➡️ Instruct your client to remove if any irritation occurs, but it is usually active with good adherence for 3+ days.

➡️ Clients with lymphoedema will also benefit as the tape can promote lymph flow.

➡️ Each client may only need a couple of tabs for their scar. Rather than sell a whole roll each time (as it’s a premium product and they may be unsure if it’ll work for them) you can pack a spare pre cut segment in a ziplock bag for reapplication between appointments. Also available on prescription.

Benefits:

✅ Tape provides a reminder to massage the area.

✅ Lifts the tissue while mobilising rather than pushing and doing circles etc which are compressive techniques on the tissues (and usually the scar is already dense and thickened).

✅ Many people don’t like touching their scar, the tape is often better for compliance.

✅ Diverse mobilisations with different stimuli are beneficial to repair.

6D tape is available from Sieden Ltd and Adam Withey is a great source of knowledge of you have any questions.

When I initially saw the tape I will admit that I thought the same could be replicated using a fold in standard Keinesology tape - I was wrong! Try both simultaneously and you’ll see the difference yourself. A gap usually appears under the fold changing tensional forces.

Emma’s story

Emma Holly has one of the UK’s leading ScarWork clinics and now offers training to physiotherapists and other physical bodywork professionals, in this specialised gentle but effective therapy for scar tissue and adhesions. As skin is healing after an operation or accident, different layers under the skin get stuck together as the body works to close and heal the wound. ScarWork helps gently release these stuck layers to allow better function and movement in the scar tissue and surrounding fascial tissue, muscles and ligaments. Originator of these unique technique to improve scars from surgery or accidents is Sharon Wheeler, a therapist from Seattle USA. ScarWork has been developed over many years, to improve the condition and integration of scar tissue and promote healing. You may not have heard of it as only been established in the UK for a short time, so only a few therapists are offering these specialised scar treatments.

Emma was highly commended complementary therapist of the year by one of the UK’s largest therapy associations FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists) and has had continued coverage in national and local press and professional journals for her business.
