In this video, Mr McCulloch addresses the complexities of diagnosing Morton's neuroma, noting that misdiagnosis or incomplete diagnosis is common. He explains that Morton's neuroma can exist without symptoms, similar to how hard skin might develop on the foot without pain until a certain point. The size of the neuroma, the space between metatarsal bones, and the presence of other conditions like plantar plate injury can all influence pain and diagnosis. He stresses the importance of an expert ultrasound scan by experienced practitioners, recommending centres where Morton's neuroma is frequently treated for accurate diagnosis.

There are times when a Morton's neuroma is an incidental finding. This could lead to unnecessary surgery !

In this video, Mr McCulloch addresses a common question from patients: whether they should consider a steroid injection for managing Morton's neuroma? The appropriateness of a steroid injection varies based on individual circumstances. However, there are specific situations where a steroid injection is not recommended for Morton's neuroma. Mr McCulloch outlines three key examples where steroid injections should be avoided, offering crucial guidance for patients contemplating this treatment option. This information is vital for making informed decisions about the management of Morton's neuroma.

In this video, Mr McCulloch discusses the role of orthoses in managing Morton's neuroma. He highlights how his in-depth gait analysis laboratory has consistently found that excessive forefoot stress and pressure significantly contribute to the development of Morton's neuroma. While treatments like open surgery, cryosurgery, and radiofrequency address the neuroma itself, they don't always tackle the underlying high pressures which can cause other issues. Thus, normalising forefoot pressures is crucial, achievable through proper footwear and, in some cases, orthoses. These devices are important for correcting mechanical imbalances in the foot that other methods can't resolve, making them a key component in managing Morton's neuroma for some patients, alongside physiotherapy and other rehabilitation measures.

In this video, Ron McCulloch explores the use of radiofrequency as a treatment option for Morton's neuroma, comparing it to alternatives like cryosurgery and open surgery. He provides an analysis of when radiofrequency might be a suitable choice, considering its advantages and limitations in comparison to other procedures. This discussion aims to help patients understand the different treatment options available, guiding them in making informed decisions about their care.

In this video, we provide essential information on preparing for cryosurgery in the treatment of Morton's neuroma. This video is crucial for all our patients scheduled for cryosurgery, offering a comprehensive overview of the procedure and the post-operative expectations. It highlights that a successful outcome from cryosurgery can often be assessed only after up to three months, as nerves take a considerable time to heal. This informative guide is beneficial for anyone considering cryosurgery, although it's important to note that processes may vary between different practitioners.

In this video, Ron McCulloch discusses the best tennis shoes for managing Morton's neuroma. He explains that tennis, with its high forefoot loading, can often lead to the development of Morton's neuroma. Therefore, certain shoes are more beneficial than others in managing this condition. However, the suitability of a shoe greatly depends on the individual's foot type. The video emphasises the need for personalised shoe recommendations and notes that the clinic will continue to provide updates on tennis shoes, reviewing them in their gait laboratory as new models emerge and as appropriate.

These two shoes do very well in our gait laboratory testing !

In this video, Mr McCulloch addresses the use of steroid injections in managing Morton's neuroma. He expresses the view that while steroid injections can be effective, they are often overused and should not be the go-to treatment, especially when used repetitively. He explains how these injections particularly help with bursitis, commonly associated with Morton's neuroma, possibly explaining their symptomatic relief. However, he points out that the relief is often temporary. The video also covers the risks associated with steroid injections, providing a comprehensive overview of their role in treating this condition.
