The Weight We Carry: Breaking Free from Generational Baggage and Mum Guilt
Motherhood is often described as beautiful, fulfilling, and instinctual. But what’s rarely acknowledged is the invisible weight so many mothers carry—the emotional inheritance from generations before, the unspoken expectations, and the relentless voice in our heads that tells us we’re not doing enough.
Going through my own journey as a woman, daughter, mother, sister etc I am discovering how much we don’t say, we just accept extra responsibility for other people’s decisions even when it means more work for us.
I help young people with mental health challenges, often caused by trauma. This is my “day” job, but my ADHD brain is constantly trying to work out how to make a difference. Recently completing non violent resistance (NVR) training & Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) training has made a path that I wholeheartedly believe can not only help children and young people, but may even prevent some trauma occurring.
Helping women understand their past and heal, not only helps them but it also means they are better prepared to deal with the emotional health of their children, and if they can break free from the inherited baggage, then they won’t be passing it on either.
If we are all working so hard to provide a secure financial future for our kids, what use is it when they aren’t able to find joy in it?
