It makes me sad that these type of desks/dressing tables are being sold for the main purpose of home working.

They are ok for one or two hours.

Even if space is tight try and find a deeper desk without a drawer underneath to allow for more leg room and the option of a laptop stand and separate keyboard to prevent poor posture.

I won’t even start on the stool!

If you’ve been working from home for a while you may have been content with a trusty armchair as your office. But, you could be doing your physical and mental health some harm in the process.
Here’s why setting up a workspace, even in a small home, can make a big difference:
😖 When your workstation is set up well, you can work without pain or discomfort. Pain is NOT an expected side effect of computer work. We meet a lot of people whose ‘normal’ pain is relieved with simple ergonomic changes
💡a functional space means you can ‘switch on’. You will work more effectively and feel more professional. It also communicates to other members of your household that you are in a work zone and can reduce distractions
😌creating a home workspace also means you can ‘switch off’ when you need to. Having a clear delineation between workspace and living space reduces that all too familiar feeling of needing to be online at all times. Keep some areas of your home, ideally your bedroom, a work-free space

As we return to the ‘new normal’ many of our clients have come to the realisation that they will be working from home, at least in part, for some time to come, if not permanently. When sweating up your home workspace the first piece of furniture to consider is the desk. Before you consider decor only here are few ergonomic tips ensure your desk looks and feels good:
▪️consider how much space you need - if you use a lot of paper documents or have multiple screens you may need a larger desktop
▪️you need to be able reach your equipment and have your arms at a comfortable height. Make sure the depth is enough to get your legs under. Design features, such as drawers or panels can get in the way of your legs.
▪️when seated, your elbows should be the same height as your table. In sitting, with your elbows bent at 90 degrees, measure from your forearm to the floor, this is the approximate height desk you need, those who are shorter may need a footrest
▪️if you are considering a standing desk, the same height measurement applies but from standing. Make sure a variable height desk can get to a suitable height in both sitting and standing - more on standing desks another time!
