I AM SO FED UP WITB TALK IN THE CORPORATE WORLD OF STRESS REDUCTION, RELAXATION TECHNIQUES AND MINDFULNESS.
So much of my health coaching training was focused on these surface level terms
( and thank god I was subsequently able to be a part of the Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy course from Embody Lab with such incredible teachers and leaders in their fields as Peter Levine and Pat Ogden)
These terms 👆are/ have become superficial and capitalist. They are used to get you back to work as soon as possible.
By keeping our understanding and discussion of ‘stress’ at such a surface level we do the deep work of Nervous System Regulation a grave disservice.
Not only do we downplay its importance but also the depth of possibility that lies on the other side of regulation.
Through learning to regulate my nervous system I have not simply gotten better at relaxation and minimised stress, I have rewired my brain and nervous system to the point where I am having an entirely different experience from inside my body. one not lived from a place of anxiety, dissociation and lack of self knowing…
but from a deep grounded knowingness, from connection to others, myself, the land, spirit, the present moment, my intuition, creative flow and self knowledge.
I know who I am, what I want, how to honour my boundaries and trust my innate knowing.
The difference is night and day!
This is not to say I am in anyway special, firstly I believe this way of being is natural and accessible to us all but secondly it took me falling so far in the other direction that I was left with no option but to commit to this deep learning.
It was the only way out from the labyrinth I had co- created (with my environment) of disembodiment, illness and disconnection.
Here’s the thing…
The disembodiment is by design, you are not a good worker if you stand in your sovereignty, will not cross your own boundaries and don’t need anyone else to heal you or patch you up well enough to get back to work.
On the ISST course time and time again they got us to ask the question.. regulation for what? To what end?
Nervous System regulation is a disruptor! As it should be.
