It seriously doesn't matter whether you think you can sing or not! Give yourself (and your little ones if you wish to bring them along) the gift of harmony! x

“I mother the mothers”

Here are words from Rachel in Liverpool, talking about being a Singing Mamas leader as a woman without children

🧡 “I love being surrounded by mums and babies in Singing Mamas… but I also know the deep relief of sitting with women who don’t have children. Both spaces matter — and both belong in the village.

Through Singing Mamas, I get to channel my nurturing energy.

I hold tired mums when words won’t come
I listen when the words come falling out
I mother the mothers.

But I also know the comfort of sitting with women without children.
No questions.
No pressure.
No need to explain.

At Singing Mamas, I believe there’s room for everyone.
Mums. Non-mums. All women.

🌿 Together, we create the village.
One holds the baby.
One remembers the words.
One cries.
One listens.

It all fits together.
And it all adds up.”

Rachel’s got more to say about this this week, so make sure you’re following her over at .singingmamas.liverpool to hear the rest of her thoughts tomorrow and Friday 🧡

Emily’s smile says it all 💫
This is what it looks like when you step into leader training …teaching your first song, hearing it sung back in harmony, and being completely lit up with joy. Emily is smashing it!

Leading songs with women is meaningful work, and it’s joyful work. 🌟

We’re opening leader training again early next year so if you’d love to be with us on this incredible mission to saturate the world with songs…then drop us a DM and let’s talk about how this could be your next step. 💕

✨ This joy that I have… ✨
A little window into Singing Mamas practice in Edinburgh, with Sammy leading us in traditional gospel song. 💛

Our leaders in training step bravely into the middle ..held by the songs, supported by the circle, lifted by the two-way flow of energy that builds courage and confidence for all.

Our trainings starting this term are full, but you can put your name down for the new year and imagine yourself on the same journey as Sammy ..growing in confidence, sharing songs, and leading others with joy. 🌿🎶

A celebration of Sammy, of song, and of what it means to share this joy together.

✨ Were you lucky enough to stumble across a Singing Mamas circle at a festival this summer?

We love this video of .n.e.brighton sharing her original song ‘Singing for Peace’ at a festival this summer 🧡

There’s nothing quite like finding your voice under open skies, surrounded by music, community, and connection. Whether it was a big festival stage, a barefoot yurt or a quiet corner of a field, our leaders have been out there creating spaces where women and families could pause, sing, and feel the joy of harmony together. 🎶

If you spotted us, let us know in the poll (and share your stories in the comments – we’d love to hear them!). If not, maybe it’s time to find a circle closer to home… 💛

🌍 When Singing Mamas leaders come together, something beautiful happens

Eliza & Emma .liz.singingmamas.brighton visiting each others groups and sharing their voices and experiencing the magic each leader brings

It’s not just about singing side by side - it’s about building community. Every voice added creates a ripple, connecting women not only in local circles but across the U.K. and around the world.

From Brighton to Glastonbury, London to Australia… this movement is about belonging, joy, and the power of women lifting each other up through song. 🎶✨

We see you, mums. 👀💛

We see you grabbing five minutes alone, but not really switching off.
We see you putting the kettle on, only to reheat the same cup of tea three times.
We see you scrolling in the dark, baby monitor in hand.
We see you “resting” while the to-do list runs on repeat in your head.

A new study in the British Journal of Psychology gave this feeling a name: “solitude that isn’t mine.”
It shows that most mothers get less than an hour a day of true me-time — and even that is interrupted, shared, or overshadowed by the mental load.

And honestly, shame we need research to tell us this. Because we’ve always seen you. 💛

This is why at Singing Mamas we create spaces where mums can have a pocket of time that really is theirs — to sing, to connect, to rest, to feel lighter.

SEPTEMBER SILLINESS 🤣

We love this fun and ‘brain boosting’ warm up by Carol Pryor.

Take a moment to sit with Kate .singingmamas.forestrow & Rachel .singingmamas.liverpool to learn and sing and remember… being silly isn’t just fun, it’s good for us!

✅ Joy switch = ON
✅ Stress levels = DOWN
✅ Connection = STRONGER

Meet the Singing Mamas Leaders!

Who: Harriet Marrinan

Where:South East London - New group!

🧡 I love sharing songs that…
have simple words or tunes, but become something more than the sum of their parts when sung in a group or with simple harmonies. It’s like musical alchemy!

🧡 I am most excited about…
creating a safe, nurturing space where women can come together, be themselves, and support each other through community and shared experience. The space I needed when I was a new mum.

🧡 I joined singing mamas because…
I was yearning to do work that aligned with my values: authenticity, leadership and wellbeing. I used to be a teacher but wanted more flexibility and family time while I have my own young kids - and I love to sing!

🧡 Outside of Singing Mamas I…
I am Mum to two little people, who are my best teachers. I am happiest when out in nature, with old friends, drinking tea, puzzling over a cryptic crossword, having a kitchen disco, or some combination of these things.

If you’re in South London you can find Harriet at .singingmamas.selondon

There are groups running across the UK and internationally. DM us ‘findagroup’ and we’ll send you the link to find your local leader.

Run ragged by the kids this Easter holiday? Gagging for some time for yourself? In need of a little TLC?

We've got your back!

It's just two weeks to go until this FREE event sponsored by and kindly hosted by West Norwood Library!!!

Monday 28 April 11am-1230pm West Norwood Library

This special Signing Mamas event is specifically for women who live in *Norwood* and belong to one or more of the following groups:

👉Women experiencing insecure housing, poverty, domestic abuse or addiction
👉Young mothers
👉Women with a diagnosis of postnatal depression or anxiety
👉Women from communities of colour

Singing Mamas is all about taking care of the women who spend so much time being busy taking care of others. It's all about making YOU feel good. There are no auditions, no solos, and no reading music or lyrics. Just simple songs taught by listening and repeating, with the aim to reduce stress, connect with others, build community, and improve wellbeing. Oh, and there's always tea ☕ and cake 🍰, too.

No singing experience is needed - we sing for connection, not for perfection! Babies and children are welcome, or you can come alone if you prefer.

For more information see the link, or please contact me at singingmamas.southlondon@gmail.com, DM me here or find me on Instagram at .southlondon

📣📣 New Venue Alert!!!

We are relocating our Tuesday morning group to NEMCA .mitcham , a wonderful friendly little community centre nestled between Furzedown and Figges Marsh.

There will be a slightly earlier start time of 0920, but still the usual format of an hour of singing and half an hour of cake. We will have one more session at the Vestry in Streatham the Tuesday following Easter (21st April) and then heading off to NEMCA from Tuesday 29th April.

Monthly subscriptions still apply so no need to do anything if you have been coming to the old venue in Streatham, and if you're a Herne Hill singer usually but can't come to a particular Thursday you can join us at NEMCA instead.

Walkable from Tooting and Mitcham Eastfields railway stations and from local buses serving Mitcham Lane/Streatham Road; there is also free parking at the centre for people attending sessions.

Really looking forward to the first of hopefully many collaborations with on Sunday 2nd March!

Lots of women discover Singing Mamas when they're on maternity leave and then stop coming to the group when they start back at work - ironically, losing their weekly moment of calm just at the time that a new kind of stress and overwhelm is introduced into their life.

So I've been wanting to offer a weekend group for a while now. This one's a bit different, I'll be teaming up with Ellie from Maternal Journal for a longer, full afternoon session that combines singing and journalling - both of which activities are fantastic for pausing, reflecting, recharging and just generally filling the cup of depleted mums! This one will be a leave-the-older-kids at home affair so you can fully take your feet off the gas and relax (although babes in arms are of course welcome).

We'll be hosted at the wonderful studio in Crystal Palace which is a fantastic local gem supporting families with all sorts of wellbeing activities through the week.

Follow the link in comments to book - I can't wait to see you there! 🧡

30/01/2025

Advance notice that the session on Thurs 13th Feb will start 15 minutes later than usual and run from 1030-1200
