Run ragged by the kids this Easter holiday? Gagging for some time for yourself? In need of a little TLC?

We've got your back!

It's just two weeks to go until this FREE event sponsored by and kindly hosted by West Norwood Library!!!

Monday 28 April 11am-1230pm West Norwood Library

This special Signing Mamas event is specifically for women who live in *Norwood* and belong to one or more of the following groups:

šŸ‘‰Women experiencing insecure housing, poverty, domestic abuse or addiction
šŸ‘‰Young mothers
šŸ‘‰Women with a diagnosis of postnatal depression or anxiety
šŸ‘‰Women from communities of colour

Singing Mamas is all about taking care of the women who spend so much time being busy taking care of others. It's all about making YOU feel good. Just simple songs taught by listening and repeating, with the aim to reduce stress, connect with others, build community, and improve wellbeing. Oh, and there's always tea ā˜• and cake šŸ°, too.

No singing experience is needed - we sing for connection, not for perfection! Babies and children are welcome, or you can come alone if you prefer.

šŸ“£šŸ“£ New Venue Alert!!!

We are relocating our Tuesday morning group to NEMCA .mitcham , a wonderful friendly little community centre nestled between Furzedown and Figges Marsh.

There will be a slightly earlier start time of 0920, but still the usual format of an hour of singing and half an hour of cake. We will have one more session at the Vestry in Streatham the Tuesday following Easter (21st April) and then heading off to NEMCA from Tuesday 29th April.

Monthly subscriptions still apply so no need to do anything if you have been coming to the old venue in Streatham, and if you're a Herne Hill singer usually but can't come to a particular Thursday you can join us at NEMCA instead.

Walkable from Tooting and Mitcham Eastfields railway stations and from local buses serving Mitcham Lane/Streatham Road; there is also free parking at the centre for people attending sessions.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

The first of 12 Song Leader Development Days kicked off at Battersea Arts Centre, a space filled with new trainees, and experienced leaders coming together to sing, connect, and turbocharge the movement. There’s something SOOO extraordinary about meeting face-to-face, singing voice-to-voice… voices see, voices feel, voices bring us together. What a joy to be on this journey, touring the country, sharing the magic of singing! Woohooo can’t wait for next month in Liverpool!

Really looking forward to the first of hopefully many collaborations with on Sunday 2nd March!

Lots of women discover Singing Mamas when they're on maternity leave and then stop coming to the group when they start back at work - ironically, losing their weekly moment of calm just at the time that a new kind of stress and overwhelm is introduced into their life.

So I've been wanting to offer a weekend group for a while now. This one's a bit different, I'll be teaming up with Ellie from Maternal Journal for a longer, full afternoon session that combines singing and journalling - both of which activities are fantastic for pausing, reflecting, recharging and just generally filling the cup of depleted mums! This one will be a leave-the-older-kids at home affair so you can fully take your feet off the gas and relax (although babes in arms are of course welcome).

We'll be hosted at the wonderful studio in Crystal Palace which is a fantastic local gem supporting families with all sorts of wellbeing activities through the week.

Follow the link in comments to book - I can't wait to see you there! 🧔

Meet the Singing Mamas leaders!
Who: Hazel Oates
Where: Perth & Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland

🧔I love sharing songs that…
Make my group smile, dance, and forget any worries they have just for a few minutes.

🧔The best thing about my group is…
The amazing women I'm getting to know and the community we're forming.

🧔I joined Singing Mamas because…
I believe in the healing power of song, especially after my own mental health struggles.

🧔Outside of Singing Mamas I…
Work in local schools teaching cycling and road safety. I volunteer for the charity Action on Postpartum Psychosis. For fun I love to swim in the lochs and rivers of beautiful Perthshire.

If you're local to Hazel you can contact her via Singing Mamas Perth to book a session.

Meet the Singing Mamas leaders!
Who: Hope Buzza
Where: Ivybridge, Devon

🧔 I love sharing songs that…
Link to nature and the woodland setting we sing in. It feels like they connect us to the space. But there are so many types of song I love to share - soulful, nostalgic, empowering, songs from around the world - it's often hard to pick! Anything that makes our hearts sing and leaves us feeling great.

🧔 The best thing about my group is…
That we get to sing in the woods! If the weather is really grizzly we have the option to move indoors to a cosy tearoom. We prefer it in the woods though...it's magical! The trees and woodland creatures are our audience and the babbling stream, wind in the leaves (and sometimes raindrops on the canopy) provide the percussion!

🧔 I joined Singing Mamas because…
As soon as I heard about it, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I went to my first natural voice festival in 2023, felt the full power of community singing and fell in love with it. The opportunity to lead singing groups and support the wellbeing of my local community was a gift, and it fits so well with my other work.

🧔 Outside of Singing Mamas I am a…
Forest School leader & mum to two rapidly growing sporty boys (12 & 13). When I'm not standing supporting on a touchline I love to walk in nature or find a river or bit of sea for a wild swim. I love supporting local live music as well as singing in a folk choir and I occasionally pick up a banjo!

If you're local to Hope you can contact her via To The Woods Forest School to book a session.

Meet the Singing Mamas leaders!
Who: Ellen Edermaniger
Where: Isle of Wight

🧔 I love sharing songs that…
Ground me and connect on a deeper level. If I resonate with a song, I enjoy singing it so much more, and in turn this makes it easier to teach and share!

🧔The best thing about my group is…
The relaxed atmosphere. There is shared understanding from the group where we can let the kids be themselves, and come as we are.

🧔 I joined Singing Mamas because…
This is the group I wish I had when I was a new mum! I love to sing but I also find it hard to prioritise my own well-being, so being able to hold a space to come together to do just that feels so special. We didn’t have a singing mamas group on the island so it’s such a joy to start it here!

🧔Outside of Singing Mamas I am…
A Muma of two wonderful little girls. We spend a lot of time in nature, time by the sea (I like cold water swimming too!) being creative & they are also big fans of singing, music is a constant in our house!

If you're local to Ellen you can contact her via Singing Mamas Isle of Wight to book a session.

ā€œI cannot explain to you strongly enough how incredible joining the Singing Mamas network has beenā€.

Polly trained in March 2023 mainly because she wanted the permission to run singing groups under the Singing Mamas brand name.

She really did not expect to benefit from the network of women that sit behind that brand name quite as much as she did!

When you train as a Singing Mamas Community Leader you really are joining the most amazing, inspirational and affirming group of women as well as learning how to lead these groups and create space for women in your community.

Are you intrigued? We have to tell you that our Spring term is fully booked and our Summer term training is booking up quickly! Our training costs will also increase in 2025 so if you needed a reason to book sooner rather than later, this is it!

If you’d like to find out more, visit our website or drop josie@singingmamas.org an email with any questions – she’ll be happy to help.

Polly leads groups in Birmingham. Since filming this testimonial, she’s had a new baby (huge congratulations!) - you can follow her at .

Collaboration over competition is a vital piece of the Singing Mamas jigsaw. We want every mother and woman to be able to access our groups across the UK and beyond. For that to happen, we need to grow, grow, grow!

It’s incredible to see the collaboration that goes on within the network; spreading the word about this movement and empowering women to improve their wellbeing through group singing.

Over the last few weeks a team of leaders Kent, South East England, have come together to create a flyer showcasing all the groups in the area.

Hannah, who recently completed her training and hopes to start her own group next year, said ā€œI am absolutely delighted that I can support these amazing leaders as we grow Singing Mamas in West Kent!

We’ve coordinated these new flyers which have arrived ready for us to share on Saturday as a small group of us will be singing at one of our local shopping centres.

Look at all these groups and lots more coming soon! I love that we’ve got a great little team of us working together to share the joy of singing across West Kentā€

Together we are stronger 🧔westkent

Meet the Singing Mamas leaders!
Who: Lynfa Sioufi
Where: Wivelsfield Green, East Sussex

🧔I love sharing songs that…
Have scrumptious harmonies. We build the layers up, one at a time, and the magic happens when that third (or possibly fourth!) part slots in, creating a sense of tension and resolution. It's surprising how effortless this can be!

🧔The best thing about my group is…
The sense of community, and simply the joy of each other's company. 'New' members become 'regulars' very quickly. Everyone is welcome.

🧔I joined Singing Mamas because…
I was missing music in my life. I had two young children at the time. I wanted to sing with other people in my community, and in a way that fitted around family life.

🧔Outside of Singing Mamas I run…
Singing sessions for Parkinson's UK and the Stroke Association. I am also a qualified music therapist, most recently working on a research project with older adults in the community, in association with Middlesex University and MHA care homes.

If you're local to Lynfa you can find her contact details on our website or drop us a message we’ll send them to you.

Any woman can train as a Singing Mamas leader. You don’t need to be a trained musician or have any experience leading singing. One question we’re often asked is; ā€œhow will I practice my song sharing skills in preparation for starting my own group?ā€.

Rest assured, there’ll be plenty of opportunities! Trainees join a cohort of 15 other women from a diverse range of backgrounds and begin by working through 8 online modules, coming together every week for a live zoom session with our Founder Kate Valentine. As their confidence grows, they’ll be supported to translate this learning into real-life practice and flex those song sharing muscles.

A few ways to do this is to observe a Singing Mamas session in person, share songs with friends or family, offer a community taster session or attend our Song Leader Development Days.

What’s a Song Leader Development Day?
Held in 4 locations across the UK, our Song Leader Development Days are an immersive song sharing day where trainees and established Singing Mamas community leaders come together to share best practice and encourage each other to try things out in a supportive environment. Attendees will have the opportunity to share a song at one of them if they would like to. Trainees can attend two of these days included in the UK training cost.

Our Summer term training cohort is booking up quickly, find more information and secure your place by visiting https://www.singingmamas.org/train-to-lead-2025

If you’re reading this and you’re already a leader in our network; you can also book a spot on our Song Leader Development Days - https://www.singingmamas.org/store šŸ‘šŸ»
