💐 Celebrating the wonderful women in our homes | International Women’s Day 💐

Across our Holmes Care homes, there are many special moments where we pause to celebrate the incredible women who make up our communities. With International Women’s Day today it feels like the perfect time to do just that.

At Methven House in Kirkcaldy and Larkfield View in Greenock, along with many of our other homes, the focus this week has been on making time for our ladies to feel truly special.

From relaxing pamper sessions, visits to our hairdressers, and nails being done, to simply gathering together groups over coffee and cake, these moments are about much more than a bit of indulgence. They’re about connection, conversation and celebrating the lives, experiences and stories of the women who have shaped our world.

International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise the strength, resilience and contributions of women everywhere. In our homes, we’re proud to create spaces where those stories are shared, honoured and enjoyed together - not just today, but all year round.

Sometimes the most meaningful celebrations are the simplest ones: time together, a little pampering, and plenty of laughter. 💜

If you’d like to find out more about life, activities and celebrations in our homes, we’d love to hear from you.

💬 Words of Wisdom from Preston House ✨

Sometimes the very best advice comes from those who have lived through decades of change, challenge, joy and experience. At Preston House Care Home in Glenrothes, our residents recently shared their thoughts when asked a simple but powerful question:

“What advice would you give to the younger generation?”

What followed was a wonderful conversation filled with stories, laughter and reflections on life. The discussion quickly became a chance for residents to share memories, lessons they’ve learned along the way, and the values that have guided them throughout their lives.

Some of the thoughtful words shared included:

💭 “Talk to everybody. Try and meet new people, you will be surprised. You will always need a friend.”
💭 “Don’t rush things. Take each day as it comes – live life to the fullest.”
💭 “Be kind to yourselves and others.”
💭 “Travel.”
💭 “Be yourself.”
💭 “Do as you’re telt :) ”
💭 “Look for a job that you love. Treat people the way you would like to be treated.”
💭 “Enjoy life in the moment.”

Our residents carry a wealth of wisdom gathered over a lifetime, and sharing it helps spark connection, conversation and reflection for everyone in our home community.

📸 In the photos, our residents proudly hold their advice for the next generation. Which one resonates most with you?

💬 We’d love to hear your thoughts! Share your favourite piece of life advice in the comments.

On the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond 🌿

Residents from Almond Court Care Home in Drumchapel recently enjoyed a lovely bus trip to Balloch, just a short 30-minute journey in our minibus. It’s one of our favourite places to visit – the stunning scenery, fresh air and peaceful surroundings make it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy nature together.

The group enjoyed lunch while taking in the views before making a stop at Duck Bay Marina on the way back, where the swans were waiting to greet us. Moments like these – getting out into the local community, sharing good food and enjoying the simple beauty of nature – are what help create meaningful days and lasting memories.

At Holmes Care, we believe experiences like this help enrich lives and strengthen the sense of community within our homes. 💛

Sometimes, the smallest gestures mean the very most. 💛

At Roselea Care Home in Cowdenbeath, we recently received this beautiful card from Heather, whose heartfelt words remind us why compassionate care matters so deeply during life’s most challenging moments. She has kindly allowed us to share...

“I find it difficult to explain in words how grateful I am for the consistent care and compassion shown to my auntie Sheila.
You lead a team of professional, warm and caring individuals who make a huge and positive difference to those in their care.
I am also grateful for the support I received from everyone. It helps a lot when you are navigating a loved one’s illness.
Roselea will always have a special place in my heart.”

We are incredibly proud of our team for the kindness, professionalism and empathy they show every single day. Not only to those who live with us, but to the families who walk alongside them. Supporting one another through difficult times is at the heart of what we do, and it’s how we continue enriching lives within our homes and strengthening the community around them.

Thank you Heather for trusting us, and for taking the time to share such meaningful words. They truly mean the world to our team. 💐

🌞 A Beautiful Day at Birnie Loch 🌿

There’s nothing quite like fresh air and stunning scenery to lift the spirits 💛

Residents from Craigie House recently enjoyed a wonderful trip to Birnie Loch Nature Reserve – and the sunshine stayed with us for most of the day! The views across the water were simply beautiful, and there was plenty of time to chat with locals who were out enjoying the loch too.

Of course, no visit would be complete without feeding the ducks 🦆 – a simple joy that sparked smiles, laughter and lovely memories of days gone by.

These days are about more than just a change of scenery. They’re about connection with nature, with our local community, and with one another. It’s these shared moments that help us continue enriching lives and strengthening community connections beyond the home.

Taking a trip down memory lane with a visit to the iconic Riverside Museum – and what a day it was ❤️

From reminiscing about old jobs and the uniforms that went with them, to chatting about outfits worn on special occasions, the stories flowed.

Nurse, Sandra Baker couldn’t resist a photo opportunity in front of one of the vintage ambulances 🚑 – a lovely nod to a lifetime of caring. And Ann was delighted to spot a dress just like one she used to own – a classic spotty number that brought back fond memories of nights spent at the dancing 💃✨ Those were certainly the hot topics of the day!

Moments like these spark conversation as well as reconnecting us to identity, shared experiences and the joy of remembering together. It’s another example of how we continue enriching lives through meaningful community connections, both inside and beyond the home.

✨A spontaneous outing brings plenty of smiles for Preston House Residents ✨

Straight off the back off our Chinese New Year celebrations at Preston House some of our gents took a wonderful surprise bus trip to The Golden Acorn Pub in Glenrothes.

With drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) in hand and a packet of crisps close by a lot of banter was passed between the chaps and memories were shared about pub visits over the years and life before retirement. The laughter, storytelling and camaraderie were simply priceless.

Getting out into the local community and revisiting familiar places helps keep those important connections alive – because community doesn’t stop at our front door.

👶💛 A Very Special Visitor at Larkfield View Care Home 💛👶

We were treated to the loveliest surprise at Larkfield View Care Home in Greenock as beautiful baby Asher came to visit his friends in the Garvel Unit – where his wonderful mummy works as a Care Assistant.

Baby Asher brought so much joy, laughter and gentle cuddles to everyone he met. The residents absolutely loved the visit – and it’s safe to say he stole a few hearts along the way! 💕

🎪 Indoor Carnival Magic at Beechwood 🎪

Spring is in sight, so at Beechwood Care Home in Wishaw we were chasing away the winter blues and bringing the sunshine indoors! 🌞

Our very own indoor carnival transformed the home into a vibrant celebration of music, laughter and togetherness. From our very own “Greatest Showmen” to joyful decorations and plenty of smiles, residents and staff came together to create a truly uplifting day.

It wasn’t just about the bright colours and fun outfits – it was about community. Sharing laughter. Creating moments. Supporting one another to take part and feel included. That’s what enriching lives really looks like.

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Silver Lining Equine Therapy in to visit the Preston House residents - and what a special day it was! 💛

Their adorable mini Shetland pony, Silver, completely stole our hearts. From gentle cuddles to plenty of smiles and laughter, Silver brought so much joy, comfort, and calm to everyone who met him. It was truly amazing to see the positive impact these visits have on our residents. The room was filled with happiness!

At Finavon Court Care Home in Glenrothes, we love welcoming our friends from Pitteuchar West Nursery into our home… but last week we turned the tables! 💛

Lisa, their Activity Co-ordinator, alongside residents Bill and Agnes, paid a special visit to the nursery. They enjoyed a full tour (with some very enthusiastic little guides!) and even “tasted” the delicious dough pancakes the children had lovingly prepared in their play kitchen. 🥞✨

Moments like this are truly wholesome. Community connections can be so powerful - bringing different generations together, sharing laughter, imagination and simple joys.

A huge thank you to Pitteuchar West Nursery for the warm welcome – we can’t wait for the next visit!
