Our residents at Magnolia Court Care Home have been making the most of the lovely warm weather by giving our hanging baskets a much-needed refresh, adding some beautiful vibrant colour to the entrance of our home.

Gardening is such an important part of life at Magnolia Court, not only because it gets everyone outdoors and enjoying the sunshine, but because it brings back so many happy memories of tending to their own gardens over the years.

As our residents planted, watered and arranged the baskets, it sparked wonderful conversations about favourite flowers, family gardens and special memories from years gone by. There was a real sense of pride in helping make their home look so welcoming and colourful for everyone who visits.

It’s amazing how something as simple as gardening can nurture wellbeing, inspire conversation and create such a strong sense of home at Magnolia Court.

⚽🌍 World Cup fever has officially arrived at Magnolia Court Care Home!
Our residents and staff have been hard at work in training, hoping to secure one of the final places at the World Cup — and from what we’ve seen, the competition should be very nervous! 👀

There were some fantastic displays of footballing talent all around, but special mentions have to go to Helen for her determination and teamwork, and Erika… who absolutely stole the show by scoring a classic worldy! 🚀🥅 A goal that will be talked about for a long time!
The energy, laughter, and team spirit have been incredible — proving that the love of the beautiful game truly has no age limit ❤️⚽
Who knows… Magnolia Court might just be sending its very own squad to the big stage soon! 😉
At Magnolia Court Care Home we like to make every moment special and if you have any thoughts on how we can make magic meaningful moments do not hesitate to get in touch.

🌟 *Employee of the Month Spotlight* 🌟

We are delighted to celebrate *Sumaya Nur, our well-deserved *Employee of the Month! 🎉

Since joining Magnolia Court Care Home - Barchester Healthcare in January 2025, Sumaya has made a truly remarkable impact. Her dedication, compassion, and genuine passion for caring shine through in everything she does. We had a fantastic Open Day at Magnolia Court Care Home yesterday, welcoming several new visitors to our beautiful and friendly home.

A number of our residents were in reception to greet guests, offering a warm welcome along with a selection of delicious treats prepared by our Head Chef. These included smoked salmon and cream cheese on crackers, hot brie parcels served with cranberry sauce or mango chutney, and a colourful selection of fruit kebabs.

Also, in reception was our latest newsletter. Why don't you pop in and pick up a copy to see what a residents and staff get up to. The next one will be out early summer.

On Friday afternoon, our residents enjoyed a wonderful piano concert from the talented Joseph Morley.

Joseph played a lovely selection of songs, many of which had everyone singing along and smiling throughout the afternoon. The concert ended on a very special note with a rendition of Happy Birthday for our lovely resident Helen.

Helen was joined by her son Andrew and was presented with a delicious birthday cake, freshly prepared by our chef Naresh. It was a joyful occasion and a super afternoon enjoyed by everyone.

As the gentle warmth of spring begins to settle over Magnolia Court Care Home, something quietly beautiful unfolded yesterday—something far deeper than simply preparing for today's open day.

Our residents, with their wealth of life experience and quiet wisdom, came together with a shared purpose: to care for the place they call home.

With watering cans in hand and smiles that spoke of pride and belonging, they stepped outside to tend to the gardens. Each drop of water carried more than nourishment for the flowers—it carried memories, connection, and a sense of ownership. For many, it wasn’t just about making the grounds look presentable; it was about contributing, being part of something meaningful, and welcoming others into a space they cherish.

There’s a profound dignity in these moments. In a world that often rushes past, today reminded us to slow down—to see the value in small acts of care, in community, and in purpose. The residents didn’t just prepare the gardens; they shared stories, laughter, and companionship under the soft spring sky.

Today, when visitors walk through our doors, they’ll see beautifully tended grounds. But what they may not immediately see is the love, pride, and togetherness that made it all possible.

At Magnolia Court, it’s never just about appearances. It’s about people, belonging, and the quiet strength found in coming together.

We couldn’t be prouder. 🌸

😲 Residents Reunited after 65 Years 👏

Everyone at Queens Manor Care Home in witnessed a special moment recently, as two residents discovered they had known each other over 65 years ago.

Over six decades ago, Margaret used to live in Myrtle Crescent, Bilston, but wanted to move to Bonnyrigg to be nearer to family. As was the norm at the time, she put a notice up in the post office in Poulton requesting a house exchange.

Dorothy, who was living in Eskdale Court, Bonnyrigg, spotted the notice and the ladies arranged to meet, then the exchange was duly arranged. Dorothy’s husband was an HGV driver working at Pentland Garage and the move brought him closer to his workplace.
Once the moves took place, the ladies did not see each other again until they bumped into each other at Queens Manor.

After much chat and reminiscence, it was confirmed that they were indeed the same Margaret and Dorothy who had swapped houses some 65 years ago.

What a small world we live in! ✨

👩‍🍳 The Countdown Is On - One Week to Go! 🍽️

Our Managing Directors and members of Barchester’s Executive and Senior Management Teams will be stepping out of their comfort zones on Thursday 30th April to compete for culinary supremacy in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2026.

Swapping their business suits for chefs’ whites, they will go head-to-head to cook up a storm and raise funds for Barchester's Charitable Foundation.

The Foundation helps connect vulnerable people and those living with disabilities to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. In 2025, the Foundation achieved a donation milestone of £424,000, which enabled the charity to provide vital help to a staggering 262 small groups and charities, plus 123 individuals in one year alone.

🌟 Good luck, everyone! 🌟

Stay tuned for live updates on the day.

✨ Birthday Appeal Brings 328 Cards for 107-year-old Ethel 😲

When the team at Wood Grange Care Home in launched a card appeal to help one of their much-loved residents celebrate her 107th birthday, they had no idea what an amazing response they would receive.

Ethel celebrated her 107th birthday on April 2nd and after the appeal to the community launched last month, the home has been receiving cards for weeks filled with wonderful birthday wishes.

Everyone was amazed to find that Ethel had received a grand total of 328 cards, far more than the 107 they had originally set out to get for their star resident. All of the cards have been opened, read and are now displayed for Ethel, her family and friends to enjoy.

Ethel is so grateful and cannot thank everyone enough for their very kind wishes! 👏
