Roland the Rat Magnolia Court Care Home.

Our lovely resident Val recently was visited by Roland and his mates Richie and Roger. Each of the 3 little lads were well behaved and enjoyed the interactions with Val and the promise that they could return in the near future.

Megan's Petting Paradise frequently visit the home with a variety of curious animals that create interest conversation and more importantly ‘bonding’.

Our residents not only had the pleasure of the ‘Three Rodent Amigos’ but also of Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and Bearded Dragon’s for company. The Bunnies had big fluffy ears and the Guinea pigs had bags of personality – but it was the Roland and his mates that gave Val the best thrill.

Feel free to contact us at any time to discuss the life enrichment we have in our home. Making sure our residents have meaningful interactions and stimulation is part of our Care and Life Enrichment Framework. Thank you, Megan, for visiting today’

Magnolia Court Celebrates ‘National Chocolate Day’ in style

A very warm greeting from Claire, Val, Doreen and Peggy on ‘National Chocolate Day’ at Magnolia Court Nursing Home. These fantastic four decided that they would ‘make a meal of it 😊’ after all we all understand the magical powers that chocolate has on our wellbeing

Key Health Benefits of Chocolate

Heart Health: Chocolate is rich in flavonoids, which are antioxidants that help improve blood flow, lower blood pressure, and reduce the risk of heart disease. Dark chocolate, in particular, has been shown to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and increase HDL (good) cholesterol levels, contributing to overall cardiovascular health.

Cognitive Function: The flavonoids in chocolate may also enhance brain function by improving blood flow to the brain. Studies suggest that regular consumption of dark chocolate can improve memory and cognitive performance, potentially lowering the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's.

Mood Enhancement: Chocolate is known to stimulate the production of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals. It also contains serotonin, which can help improve mood and alleviate symptoms of depression.

Energy Boost: Due to its high carbohydrate and fat content, chocolate can provide a quick source of energy. This makes it a popular choice for athletes and those engaged in intense physical activities.

Antioxidant Properties: Chocolate is loaded with antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. This can contribute to overall health and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

If you are ever in the area and fancy popping in for some chocolate cake and a cup of Coco do let me know

Jack’s new pal 😊

Really no further words are needed other than ‘Jack is awesome’ – but in an effort to explain this it goes without saying that Jack simply makes friends with everyone in Magnolia Court Nursing Home including those of the ‘scaley kind’.

Did you know?

There are over 6,000 different species of lizards worldwide.
Some lizards can run at speeds of over 12.5 mph.
Lizards can regenerate their tails after losing them, which helps them escape predators.
They have a unique ability to change color for camouflage or communication.
Some lizards, like the Iguana, are herbivores, while others are carnivores or omnivores.
These facts highlight the diversity and fascinating characteristics of lizards!

You can see the concentrated interest that ‘Larry the Lizard’ had when engaging in conversation and kindness with Jack.

Simply Magnolia is blessed and thank you Jack for being Jack.

Welcoming back Teddy and Lisa from Therapy dogs nationwide after their winter break

Residents were overjoyed at the long awaited return of ‘Teddy the Wonder Dog’ after a winter break. Teddy who has been visiting the home several years knows that by simply putting on them ‘puppy dog’ eyes that he can charm almost anyone and everything.
More importantly he knows the meaning of a real ‘Pet therapy dog’ which is to ensure by his fluffy love and cheeky smile that he can cure all ills and provide comfort to those that need it.

Have a look at the pictures and the smiles and understand the importance of his role.

In speaking to Lisa from Therapy Dogs Nationwide she told us that Teddy could not wait to be wagging his tail and to be petted by our residents. He did not even ‘paws’ to consider his return to Magnolia.

Cannot wait to see you guys again – please return soon

👏 Christmas Gift Turns Out a Long-Lost Family Heirloom 👏

Betty, a resident at Queens Manor Care Home in , and her son Ivor were astonished to discover that a Christmas gift from care worker, Clarissa, was actually a long-lost family heirloom!

Clarissa found the book “Aye Ready! History of Edinburgh Fire Brigade, the Oldest Municipal Brigade in Britain” online and thought it would be a thoughtful gift for Betty, who often spoke of her father, Robert Thomas Wyllie, a 1930s Assistant Fire Officer.

When Betty showed the book to Ivor, he realised it was his own copy, originally belonging to his father and long thought lost. A true one-in-a-million coincidence!

Ivor shared: “I couldn’t believe it when Betty told me she had a copy of the book…”

Performing Pets visit again.

Staff and residents Magnolia Court Care Home Open Day were thrilled to have another visit from Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party This time we were blessed in having visitors of the ‘feathered variety’ who gave great joy and pleasure to all of the residents in the home.

‘Captain Jack’ took great amusement to his ‘Shipmate’ on his shoulder and Jenita who so thrilled to have the ‘chirpy visitors in her room’ wishing her the best for the day.

Some of the benefits of ‘Pet therapy’ include:

Stress and Anxiety Reduction: Interacting with animals can lower cortisol levels, leading to decreased stress and anxiety.

Increased Social Interaction: Pet therapy encourages conversations and bonding among residents and staff.

Improved Mood: Engaging with animals can trigger the release of feel-good hormones, enhancing overall mood.

Cognitive Function: For residents living with dementia, pet therapy can stimulate memory and focus.

As always at Magnolia Court Care Home we would like to thank Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party for the wonderful visit and we look forward to you visiting again soon. Michelle's Animal Therapy & Petting Party

⭐ Celebrating Exceptional Customer Feedback ⭐

We’re celebrating receiving exceptional feedback in our home’s customer satisfaction survey.

The annual Tell Barchester survey is an opportunity to gather the opinions of residents and patients across all Barchester care homes and hospitals, along with those of their families and loved ones, in order to learn and improve.

An impressive 71% of the residents at Magnolia Court stated that they would recommend the home to a friend. In the six different areas of the survey covering people, care, environment, activities, dining and communication, the home consistently scored over 75%. The home’s top score out of the six areas was for the calibre of its staff at 89%, followed by the quality of the care delivered at 88% and the home’s environment at 87%.

The report contained many glowing quotes from residents and their loved ones including:

We’re all over the moon with the comments received, which mean so much.

❄️ Going the Extra Mile: Wheatlands Care Home During the Snowstorm ❄️

Following a recent snowstorm, the team at Wheatlands Care Home in went the extra mile to support residents with several staff members staying overnight during the severe weather.

A resident shared: “They have been exceptional, giving us drinks and caring for us. The lights went on and off last night, but this didn’t stop them, they were incredible.”

During the disruption, the home also opened its doors to the local community and those affected by the snow, offering warmth, hot drinks, good food and a place to re-charge electrical devices.

Community spirit at its best. Thank you! 👏

Before moving into the care home, Marjorie lived in and was well known in the local community as a much-loved dinner lady at Dafen Primary School, where she supported generations of children over the years.

Marjorie’s granddaughter Marie, who works as the Lead Activities Coordinator at the home, shared how special the moment was for the family, particularly seeing everyone together.

Such a special moment! ✨
